Really enjoyed this series Butch. Got to see the trip i never took. Thank you so much for sharing. Really tragic to see all the damage left from Ian. My heart really goes out to those affected. Cant wait to see whats up next for you.
Doug, I am so happy that you enjoyed the videos, and always very much appreciate your feedback. I am glad I had the opportunity to pick up the camera and share what I saw to everyone out there. It was definitely a unique trip, and I have some great plans in store coming up.
I was just thinking of the guy who posted to one of your videos, "you were in the gulf, not the ocean." and was about to roll my eyes until I remembered correcting my mom (parent's had a beach house on Anna Maria), "mom, it's not the ocean, it's the gulf.". 😂 Great video. On vacations we'd all be on the island. We had a family tradition going back to the 80s of walking along the beach to The Sandbar for sunset dinners and Happy Hours. Great times!
I watched a hurricane hit a condo complex with a marina in Florida and I was completely shocked when I watched the floating docks float right over the top of the short piers and proceeded to bash into each other destroying countless boats. I sat there thinking if they were 2 ft higher or if they strategically placed taller ones to prevent the floating docks from getting out of control not one boat would’ve been damaged. I can’t fathom why those precautions aren’t in place in a hurricane prone area. Baffles the mind
Finished the four video series and highly recommend it (it’s not an in-depth 2 hour tutorial on an engine room) as well balanced and interesting even if boating isn’t your first priority. Thanks again, and waiting for the T-shirt in the mail! 👀 (This isn’t a “finish the series and get a T-shirt” thing? Never mind then. )
Your feedback is sincerely appreciated. Thanks so much for tuning in and participating! 😂 ohhh I should have made a shirt that says “I watched the four part series and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”
I lived in Florida for 5 years, that was 30 years ago, enjoyed and visited the entire State except for Lake Okeechobee. Lived in West Palm, but enjoyed visiting and preferred spending time on the west coast. New subscriber after watching the 3 part video, looking forward to more. The last year I was there, we had 55 inches of rain in October, now living in Vegas receiving only 4-5 inches of rain...per year!
Thank you Joe 🙌. Boy, a lot has changed over the last 30 years around these parts! I have to agree though, the west coast of Florida is where it’s at. I thin south Florida got something close to 55 inches a week ago! Crazy times. I hope the desert life is treating you well, aside from the lack of rain
9:46 OMgosh that sunset ❤ Great set of videos 11:56 Boat owners should be ready to be an electrician, plumber, carpenter and mechanic. Thanks for sharing
I enjoyed watching your trip across Florida. I have family in Moore Haven. I've eaten several times at Roland Martin's. The food is good and the beer is cold! Safe boating to you! Ron H.
Great job! It’s in our bucket list. Lots good info. One of my biggest concerns is over night stays since Ian. Our boat is a 2005 Viking Princess 67, very similar to the boat being delivered.
Thanks Carlos! Yeah getting to a marina when transiting the area just takes a longer day. But making it work is doable, just takes that extra bit of planning. Hope to see you out there sometime, thanks for watching
Thank you Capt., I enjoyed taking this journey with you guys via your videos. How do you know the height of the bridges? Is the clearance height posted? What's the height of this vessel and your 44' Defever?
Thank you so much for coming along! Yes, there are readings at the bridges that tell you the height, which is usually listed as the lowest possible height at the current water level. For most bascule bridges, you will have a few extra feet of clearance at the center. And for planning a trip, you can look up cruising guides describe the bridges along the waterways you will be traveling. The air draft of the Hatteras is around 24’ and my DeFever is around 18’.
A group of my friends are traveling up the Gulf side but destination is St. Pete. John’s Pass seems too far north for our entrance into Tampa Bay. Do you have a preference for which entrance into the Bay coming from south? Never been through there. Thanks
Oh nice! I am actually based in St. Pete. If they are approaching from the south out in the Gulf, they can enter Tampa Bay between Egmont Key and Anna Maria. Plenty of water. They can enter on the north side of Egmont as well but you have to go out around the shoals and then you would be entering with the shipping channel. So it is definitely best to make that turn south of Egmont, and then pass between Egmont and Passage Key.

All of my experience on the water was in Michigan and California. But my father lived in Florida and I did visit. I do enjoy your videos.
I so much appreciate that David!
Dolphin 🐬 jumping out of water was icing on a cake but I heard they are tricky animals lol
Very tricky!! 😂
I have fond memories of boating in and around John’s Pass especially at sunset. Thanks Capt. Butch , brings back memories of better times!
That’s awesome! It is a special place indeed. Glad I could resurface some fond memories for you. Thanks so much for watching!

That sunset was a sight to behold! Thank you so very much. Most definitely, you have to be a jack of all trades. Really appreciate you watching

Thanks so much Ron! I do love stopping over in Moore Haven. Appreciate you sir!
Thanks for the video Butch! Sad to see the Ft. Myers marinas as that's where I bought my trawler 12/21 (Yacht Basin).
Thank you for tuning in! Oh man, that definitely hits close to home. It is so sad to see, especially when you have experience there
I enjoy watching your videos of cruising the FL waters. So much to see.
You are so right, there is so much to see! So glad you are enjoying the content
Incredibly sunset view!! Thanks!
Thank you! That sunset was an absolute stunner!
Very enjoyable!

🙌 thanks for watching
I thought you had to carefully follow the dredged channel while crossing the Okeechobee.
Yes indeed, you definitely want to stay within the channel
@@AquaCultured I couldn’t see any channel markers in your video.
@@Richoshay1 they are very spread apart until you get close to Clewiston. So a good portion of the lake you will not see a marker for quite some time
is there a speed limit in the rivers?

Nice video Capt.Butch wish Capt. Wiki
Thank you Capt. Wiki! Always appreciate you watching
Priceless moments, yes. But, you are on the gulf, not the ocean.
Indeed it is the Gulf of Mexico, but to me it is interconnected with the world’s oceans.
Som wgere DID you hole up for Irma?
I was in Madeira Beach, FL for Irma. Here is that video: ua-cam.com/video/BOdFKex9wPU/v-deo.htmlsi=ME4uxUve1XQuvV0X
Well done skippy 😊. Great presentation as usual 🦜 My T Fun...out
