- Who's the star of The Bla----er, Taran and the Magic Cauldron? It's GURGI, right? Yeah, he's totally the central character. Will you go see it now?
The animation fandom has been searching for this ad, or at least evidence that this ad even happened, for a long time. I'm pleased to be the one to bring it to you.
One of Disney's darkest movies along with Bambi, The Fox and the Hound, Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame. No, forget it, THE DARKEST DISNEY MOVIE EVER. With a DEMON as the main villain, eerie medieval vibes, blood and armies of undead, this takes the cake as the absolute darkest Disney movie ever and probably the closest thing to a straight-up HORROR MOVIE Disney has ever made.
So they re-name the film to try and make it seem more family-friendly, and the one ad they make couldn't even focus on the goddamn title character.
Not to mention it's not accurate. Not only is Gurgi not the central character, but he doesn't even help Taran rescue Eilonwy. Heck Eilonwy actually helps Taran out of the dungeon which does lead to Taran helping her AND Ffleuder get out of the castle. And later both Taran and Eilonwy get captured along with Ffleuder and Gurgi ends up rescuing all three of them.
It's trailers like this that give the Disney princesses a bad name. (Yes. I know Eilonwy isn't part of the franchise but it's still up there with that one TV spot for Beauty and the Beast making Belle look completely helpless.)
Disney tended to do that sometimes, make a character or plot point more important it actually is.
@@TheBaltimoreMovieTrailerPark Of course they're not the only ones guilty of this. Fox (before it was purchased by Disney that is) did that TV spot for Anastasia that made it look like Bartok was helping Anya out even though she wasn't aware of his presence in the movie...well maybe outside of a brief bit in the prologue but you get the idea.

Taran and companions struggle to capture the black cauldron fills with magic that generates the Horned King's entire army of deathless skeletons.
Disney managed to make a re-release trailer, TV spot and poster for The Black Cauldron as Taran and the Magic Cauldron. But they dropped the date of when it comes back in cinemas, because they're sorting out The Little Mermaid.
I didn't even know they re-release this movie back then. #TheMoreYouKnow
Only a few select cities in America were able to show the reissue of The Black Cauldron as Taran & The Magic Cauldron. One of those cities is Las Vegas.
I went to see this when it came out in 85 at 3 and it was the first movie I saw and had a read along and stuffed gurgli.

Um, actually he's helping Taran defeat The Horned King, not save Eilonwy. Trailers can be misleading.
