Thank you, so much for always posting these "Do it yourself" car repair videos for the Nissan Quest. You have saved my family and I so much money that I now can put towards my wife's cancer expenses, a true blessing.
Super instructional video, I was going to take my Quest to the dealer for a squeaking belt, but after watching this I know I can do it! Thanks!!!!
Best demonstration ever!!! So easy to understand and follow along. I need a new AC Compressor, maybe a belt as well. So thanks for the replacement belt part. I need to search for a video now on how to change the AC Compressor🙇🏽♀️
A guy told my mother in law. She needed a alternator for her 2007 Nissan Murano. The car set up for almost 2 months. I got bored an decided to take a look. How about the belt was gone. The alternator was like $170 something an he was gone charge her $125. I’m debating to go knock on his door an feed him to an alligator. Especially after seeing how easy this was. Thanks man 🙌🏾
Great job. You made that look very easy. I pray it is the same for me when I get out there to my Quest.
Just changed my belt today after watching this. Thank you!
Thanks alot for taking the time to provide this video, I an idler pulley that needs to be replaced on a Nissan Murano and after watching the video, I will go ahead and replace the pulley and install a new belt at the same time. Very good video, I appreciate all of the views you provided as well as the detailed information.
Glad my video was helpful!
Good eye that you caught that. The Dayco belt is fairly new but I have been having a squealing problem when accelerating. I tried adjusting the tension but it didn't help. So I decided to try the Nissan belt and the noise did lessen but sometimes I still hear some, so not quite sure at this point. Also trying this didn't cost a whole lot. Maybe I have a bad idler pulley. Will see.
That rate is about the same for my local Nissan dealer. If you have never done belts before, the only thing that can get tricky is adjusting the tightness of the belt. So before removing the old one, twist it with your finger and get a feel of how tight it needs to be. I know it's not exact but gives you an idea of what it needs to be.
The belt tension tool is the Krikit II. The cordless drill driver I used is not impact but was used to speed up removing the lugs after I already broke it loose with a breaker bar.
Great video - I am going to replace this belt on my wife's 2004 Quest this weekend. It is starting to squeal after 202,000 miles. It was replaced once previously by Nissan - but they really botched it,. A real horror story I don't want to repeat. I prefer to do the work myself and know it was done right.
Very good to hear that this video was helpful!
i would like to have all your vids of your Nissan Quest fix's and repairs . you do a great job of explaining the process .
Thanks for your comment!
This was a great video, I'm getting ready to change the belt myself. My mechanic wants $170 to do it and I can't do that right now
This helps me to change belt drive on my Nissan Almera N16 1.5, Thank you
Great video, very easy to follow and informative. Thanks.
Great, thank you for your comments...
thank you your video was a great help
Those are aftermarket rotors/pads. I didn't get them for looks, but hope the extra venting will help the rotors from warping.
You do such a great job with clarity and video. OUTSTANDING>.......Thanks so much
Thanks for your comment!
Well spoken and illustrated video. Thank you, Good job !
Thanks for your comment!
Excellent instructions! Thank you so much...
Totally awesome vids
great and informative video. After watching i was able to do the job. Thanks
migmty83, I have not had to do that fix. The clicking does sound like the timing chain tension guide is broken. Another youtuber did a good video on this. Search for : 2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5L Timing Chain Repair Part 1
Seems like a big job. Good luck
The Dayco W belt that you removed appears to be fairly new - what was the reason for replacing it?
Hello, great video! Just have some questions...does the water pump run off this belt or the other one? Also, what can I do if that bolt on the idler pulley is stripped? Cannot seem to get it off, looks like it was stripped from previous owner.
do you have one on the power steering belt change, and belt tensioner pulley.
What's the recommendation mileage for changing the belt on a Nissan Cube 2009?
Great video. Thank you for taking to time to help. Thanks again.
Appreciate your comment!
Used this on my 2003 Altima v6. worked great. Even went and bought a kriket! had to go to Napa autoparts cause Autozone had no clue what a belt tension tester was let alone a kriket. I had to slap them with the back of my hand in one swipe like the 3 stooges!
Glad you found my video helpful. Thanks for the good laugh about Autozone!
good descriptive video
Good video thanks 👍
Hey dial2fast, thanks for the vid! Have you ever changed the timing belt tensioner? At least that is what I think I have to replace on my van; every time I start it up a clicking noise can be heard...what you think?
I see the AC Compressor is right there near everything. I am having a hard time finding videos of how to replace the AC compressor. I'm assuming you use the gates tensioner tool for replacing ac compressor too right?
you do look easy good video friend
Excellent job Thanks. Wish you had one on replacing the alternator. There's only 1 on UA-cam and the guy doesn't talk.
Same concept, hafta have this one off to do the p.s. belt 👍
excellent video my man
Is the same process on a Nissan quest 2011.? Thanks
Awesome vid, thanks
I have a 2007 Nissan Murano & I think I need a Belt as well about how much money will I be out of if I was to get the work done in the shop?
Thanks good explanation.
good job my man. very clear 👍 but I got Nissan murano I guess is the same thankyou
Yes same for Murano
How did you get the wrench in there is not space for it
I am using a socket set I bought from Harbor Freight. It's a 'go-through' socket which is low profile. Description : 21 Piece SAE/Metric Go-Thru Socket Set. The item#67974. Go on their website and have a look.
My god!I am glad I have rear wheel drive and my truck engine doesn't sit sideways under the hood.I can change my belt in 5 minutes.
i k ow right i gotta change the alternator on mine😭
Eric Medlin Changed the alternator on mine and nearly had to drop the engine. Not to mention all of my nuts and bolts and stuff are stripped and rusted so it took 3 days (pretty sure Nissan did that on purpose.lol).
Thanks for a great video, well done !!
Bill Baxter Thanks for your comment!
UA-cam is absolutely the best. I just got a quote for $120 for the belt and service. I knew it could not be that expensive, when the best cost less than $20. God bless you in all that you do. Keep the videos coming sir.
Really appreciate your comment. That price you got quoted is the correct shop rate, but you can save some money doing it yourself.
my idler pully nut is stripped out, any suggestions? i tried using penetrating wd-40 and vice grips but still no luck
Thanks for the video it's a huge help. Would you happen to know anything about the quest rear heat? Ac comes out the rear vents but when it's switched to heat nothing comes out the rear only the front
I have not worked on that, but I have looked into the HVAC of the Quest and the problem may be the 'Rear Air Mix Door Motor'. That motor moves a flap that routes either cold or hot air. I can tell you that if the problem lies with the rear air mix motor, you will have to access the rear interior trim panel to get to it. I don't have details to the exact location. You will need to research it or get a hold of the Nissan service manual.
I have a question, my driving belt makes a noies. My car is a Nissan Quest 2009
thanks very accurate !
great video....thank you!!! helped out a lot!!!!
Jody and Renee Thanks for your comment!
Best video
Great video btw.
Really appreciate the video saves me lots of money, quick question would you happen to know how to replace the idler pulley?
Eric Sandoval I have not had to replace it, but I think you can just unbolt the whole assembly to replace.
Great video!!! Thank you.
Thanks for your comment!
1st off great video & description. I feel like I can change a belt by myself now. 2nd Took my Quest to AutoZ for free diagnosis they said the Battery was good & Alternator was not getting a charge. Two weeks ago there was a lot of squealing, last week on vacay we used the a/c alot! Is it most likely a belt or alternator problem? I don't want to go to the mechanic and they just automatically throw out an alternator price to me. Thanks for any advice you can give.
It's hard to say one or the other, but those tester they use to test the alternator should be accurate. If your alternator is having problem, then it will have a hard time charging your car battery and operating the car while you are driving. Take it to a reputable shop and get it checked out.
Excellent video, very straight forward and simple explanation. I have a Murano 2009, do you know where I could get the tension specs from?
Best regards!
Google or a parts store.
Bought and used a belt tension tester for the first time (tightened to 200) after many years of replacing belts. Belt squealed when turning on the AC. Went back to the eyeball method and no more belt squealing. Just saying. Otherwise great video.
this video was helpful can you please do a video for the power steering belt as well?
+Marvin Taylor The power steering one is a pain when the locking bolt way back by the firewall. If I have to change it in the future, I will do a video.
Hmmm didn't seems like to much of a PITA job. I liked that belt tool. Did you call it a cricket? Also was that a cordless impact you used to take off the lug nuts?
Is that the nissan stock brake disc? Or you changed it?
Is this the same for a 2010 max?
Nice man
Awesome video, great coverage of the items as well. Just have one question, wondering why you check the tension on belt before tightening the idler ? Is there a reason to that or is that just your preference? I would have thought to tighten the idler first prior to checking tension as that may add more tension to belt.
If you tighten the idler first, then you won't be able to adjust the tension. To change the tension, the idler must be loosened, then adjust the adjustment nut up top.
Another great one for a girl like me who is mechanically challenged when it comes to cars.
my quest compressor clutch don't working you can help me thanks
What if you strip the nut on the tensioner by accident wat now
Great video! Do you recommend slotted rotors for the Nissan Quest?
For this van, I had a problem with rotors warping. So that's why i got these ones and they have worked really well.
Does anyone know why the idling pulley has to be loosened?
Nice video, do you think this would be at all similar for a Nissan Sentra 2008?
Sorry, not sure, but it's an easy check if you stick your head in that area.
I have a Nissan Murano, can the same process be used on my vehicle or are they too different a model and make?
Its the same process.
How long of a job is this? I’m about to do this on my quest, thanks for the great videos
Dude, you just watched him do it.
I wanted to do a video like cleaning body aseleracion of Nissan Quest
thanks so much! this is better than pay $175 dollars at the dealer to change the belt , and those are cool brake rotors
Thanks for your comment.
How about changing the alternator video? It seems you are already halfway there with this video. Is there any tricks to getting the alternator out?
What ratchet and socket are you using to fit through that tight space between the idler pully and the frame of the van? It seems to go in with ease. I tried a go thru socket set I bought from harbor freight and still no luck getting to that nut.
Eric Sandoval I also used the go thru socket set from Harbor Freight. That's what you saw in the video that I was using. Not sure why yours would be different. They are very low profile.
I tried everything but the kitchen sink to get that bolt off. Ended up chewing the heck out of it with a hammer and chisel.. still nothing.. finally went under the kitchen sink and grabbed a small plumbers wrench. Low and behold Walaaa... it did the trick! Great Video though man thank you many times
would the steps be the same for a 2013 model?? I imagine it is but just wondering.
Take the tire off and look at tha sum bitch lol
On my 2007 I can not get the wrench to losing the pully
That's the same problem I have with my nissan quest just grab the noise when I turn it on after it disappears
Can you loosen the idler pulley too much? The bolt on top?
You can, but you just loosen it until the pulley has enough slack to remove the belt. The whole bolt should not need to come out.
Man that's an awful place to have a rounded nut. If you have already tried a locking vice grip, I am not sure what else to try. You might have to take it to a shop. Also saw this on youtube, search 'How To Remove Rounded Nuts and Bolts with Grip-Tite Sockets'
The belt is squeaking sometimes when we turn the AC on. We tried belt conditioner and it works for several days but the squeaking sound came back. Now we tried to replace the belt but we can't seem to fit the socket wrench to loosen the bolt and then the bolt strips with a regular wrench. What would be our next step since the bolt is stripping?
If the bolt is stripping and being in such a tight space, you should take it to a shop and have them work on it. You don't want to make it any worse to a point where the shop will charge you many hours to get it off.
Hi, i need some advise on my nissan van, i took my van to a shop to get the serpentine belt changed, it was squeaking when i ran A/C, well after they serviced it, it was making the same noise even louder, took it back so maybe they could adjust belts, same thing still, so 3rd time he finally got it to stop the noise, that was amonth ago , now its sqwealing from the power steering, does one have to do with the other????? my husband is in the military so i have to handle it myself, just want a honest days work for some honest day pay, If you know what i mean
The Nissan Quest only has 2 belts. The serpentine belt I showed in this video is the bigger belt and it's routed onto your alternator, ac compressor, and crank (engine). There is a smaller belt back towards the firewall of the car that drives the power steering. Typically the power steering belt will last longer than your bigger belt, but depending on mileage, it does need to be serviced. It's difficult to check the condition of the power steering belt unless you get underneath the vehicle. Both belts can be adjusted for proper tension, but if the belt is old and it's squeaking, then it should be replaced (not adjusted) as it eventually may break. Try to figure out which belt has been changed in the past and find a shop that is knowledgeable and honest.
If the belt where to break would the car still drive? The belt broke on my Nissan 2006 maurano and now it won't drive. Did the belt brake and the transmission went out as well please help!!!!
Casey Howe Check if all the pulleys a spinning properly. Might have caused the belt to break if one is seized .
I have an ‘08 with 185k miles. It sounds like a dying rabbit when I first start it up and have the AC on, is that this belt? But it also is tight to turn the wheel some mornings, could both of my belts be bad at this age?
adjones87 replaces the belt!
Need to know the length of the extension socket you used, was it 10 in?
I believe it was a 3" extension and an 11" extension together. So i had a 14" extension to reach the top nut.
Thank you for replying. Btw I have a nissan quest 2004 and I just changed my break pads and soon my serpentine belt. I really like how detailed and clear your explanations. I can tell you spent a good time to make quality videos . I subscribed. Thank you again.
I needs to know how to replace power steering belt
my car is Nissan sunny is it the same nissan Quest or Sentra because this car had different names in other countries
Did you buy the belt, OEM??, on line, and after how many miles they recommed to change the belt?? Thanks, youtheman !=)
+Eero Laukkanen I bought OEM, but you can use aftermarket if you want. Most belts should last at least 40k miles. Check for cracks periodically.
Thanks, how much is OEM belt, for Nissan/ Infiniti?? just wondering =)
is it the same for a 2007 Quest?
yes
Dear Sir, Your great skills and knowledge are surpassed only by the high quality of the video. I hope you would consider to teach auto maintenance and repair, if you don't do it already.
A few notes for my fellow do-it-yourself viewers who don't have your skill level:
* Buy the belt tensioner tool (
Really appreciate your wonderful comment. UA-cam is a great place for everyone to help one another. Thanks for sharing your tips!!
Does this work for 07 murano. 3.5 v6
thank you
Engine layout should be the same
do u have a video on oil cooler o-ring the dealer wants $295
kirubel yohannes Yes, I made a video on that. Check my Channel for the video 'Nissan Oil Leak - Replace Oil Cooler O Ring Gasket'
Good job, thank you ! Where can I order one of those belt-tension measure device?? How much?? And where do I get a spec for correct belt tension?? One more thing, I have infiniti FX 45/ 2004, I want/will change rotors and brakecalipers in a front, for newer model, 2007, where there is 2 pistons in a caliper. Are you happy with rotors, like you have?? Where did you buy them, on line? I will buy black rotors, with holes, just like yours ! and will paint brake calipers also black =) Thanks, youtheman !!!
+Eero Laukkanen I bought that belt tension device many years ago on Amazon. For spec, you will need to find the Nissan service manual on the internet. You have to dig around to see if you can find one. I have several videos on changing rotors/ brake on my Nissan. For the past several years, I have been using Brakemotive rotors/pads from Ebay. Slotted and drilled, love the price and performance.
Brakemotive?? Made in Canada?? The set of four is about $200.00, slotted/drilled?? Thanks=)
Another great video, but...how bout that PS belt?
The PS belt is way back by the firewall. It's more difficult to do that one if you are using jack stands.
dial2fast can you tell me what tension the power steering belt should be tightened too?
Do u have a video where whows how replacement the alternator ?
Heyner Morales Sorry, haven't had to replace mine yet.
does the car have 2 belts ???
Yes there is a second belt for the power steering that's behind the engine.
Can you reach the quest powers steering line from here. mine is leaking.
The power steering pump is behind the serpentine belt by the firewall so you will need to jack the car up.
Thank you. Can i reach it, remove it, and replace it, if i jack it up?
When I went in to get a belt, the guy at O'Reily's gave me two belts? does your vehicle have two belts?
BTW I love your instruction though, perfect...I am just concerned about that extra belt?
This van has 2 belts. The bigger serpentine belt, and a smaller power steering belt on the back side by the firewall. If you go underneath you will see it. You should check to see if it needs changing. The power steering belt usually last much longer. Also the ps belt is a pain to replace as the serpentine belt must come off first.
thank you so much for that info dial2fast! I sure appreciate that information. You do give instruction very clearly and well...I kind of hoped though after viewing this...was I wish you showed how to change both of them..haha..
But thank you for the info on the serpentine...I think that's the one is giving problem...funny it squeals only when the AC unit is put on...I hope it's the belt and not the AC unit itself.
Thank you Sir!
