    You are mistaken about strip mining. You are becoming less efficient by doing the third block, not more. 8 is greater than 6, but so is 10 or 12, so why don't people strip mine in 3-5 tall paths and beyond? It is less efficient. The model below explains it fairly simply.
    New blocks exposed per block mined:
    1x1 path: 4 blocks.
    2x1 path: 3 blocks.
    3x1 path: 2.67 blocks.
    2x2 path: 2 blocks.
    The best (most efficient) method is using the trapdoor trick to make yourself crawl, then digging a 1x1 tunnel into the wall. This is 33% more efficient than the standard 2x1. However, this one is lesser known and, honestly, more trouble than it is worth for many players, myself included. So, we give up that 33% efficiency bonus to instead have a nice simple, easily navigated 2x1 tunnel. However, you do not gain any ease of use by going up to the 3x1 block. You lose 11% efficiency and gain nothing in return. Therefore, the best method comes down to personal preference between 1x1 and 2x2, but 3x1 is objectively worse than either.

      Don't forget that the Y-level of that 3rd block in hight will probably have slightly less diamonds in it than the 2 levels below it. Making it even worse to mine 3 blocks high.

    Always build your main base in a mushroom biome. It eliminates mob griefing from creepers and endermen, and nearly eliminates all mob related dangers while building your masterpiece.
    Never forget that you are leaving a safe quiet part of the world when you venture off of your mushroom island into the big dangerous world. Remember to reequip your armor and weapons.
    Not from personal experience. Nope, never had problems with that, ever. All rumors to the contrary are malicious slander.

    Can o' worms indeed. Dead bushes generate on sand, red sand, podzol, dirt, coarse dirt and terracotta in deserts, badlands, old growth taiga and swamp and mangrove swamp biomes. Branch mining 3x1 drifts three blocks apart can miss ore clusters above and below the 3-block thick walls between drifts, especially when mining for diamonds. I prefer 3x2 drifts two blocks apart to minimize those misses. On the other hand, I agree: a bucket is your early game best friend. The first two things I craft when I get some iron in a new world are shears and a bucket. The best weapon early game is an axe. It's a tad slower than a sword but does more damage. Swords are better only after they are enchanted. After I get a Silk Touch pickaxe, I use it exclusively when mining because the ore blocks take up less space in my inventory than raw ore. Never, never, never explore snowy slopes without wearing leather boots. Freezing to death in powdered snow is abysmally embarrassing. This could get lengthy, so I'll stop there.

      if caught in powered snow, you should dig straight down to remove all the powdered snow you are sinking into that is freezing you. You can easily dig your way out when not freezing anymore

    The main thing to add to the Bastion Remnant hopper trick is you have to check if there is Guilded Blackstone under the chest as breaking it set off Piglins as well like mining gold. They literally patched in for Guilded Blackstone to generate in higher frequency under chests to prevent the hopper trick so the challenge of raiding the Bastion is still there.

    I disagree on the branch mining for the 3 high part.
    If you look at percentages it seems good - a 33% increase, but percentages don't matter - blocks exposed per hour does, because the ground isn't a limited resource but your time is.
    Consider that with a 1x2 tunnel you can set your point, hold down the mining button, and walk forward forever (admittedly that is line rather than branch mining) - but it is much more efficient per second - two blocks broken for 6 exposures rather than three for 8. If you averaged one block per second (considering eating, tool fiddling, torches, etc), if you stuck with 1x2 you would go 30 blocks forward per minute for 180 exposures. Even if you could keep the SAME speed going 3 high (which is doubtful, since you have to move your aim), you would only go forward 20 blocks exposing 160.
    Again, if the ground was a limited resource it would make sense, but the real difference in exposures will add up over time.
    Obviously there are mathematically more efficient models with 1x1 poke holes and the rest, but 1x2 is more efficient than 1x3. It also limits lava exposures (verticality makes those more dangerous, especially in the nether).
    Of course, having said that, I normally just strip mine anyways - as the blocks are always useful, it is super brainless while I'm doing something else with my mind, and the open areas usually find a use later (farms I don't want to see on the surface, etc).

    more lighting tips for directions. place torches on one side of mine walls, that way you know what direction you came from. if you create a intersection, place a block or knock a hole and place a torch in the direction/tunnel you came from. will also work pretty good for mineshafts, strongholds and fortresses if they aren't too janky. in open areas or nether, you can use a skizzleman skumpass (couple block high tower with torch facing the direction you came from). for intersections, torch on top and whatever side.

    I disagree with avomance because I branch mine with a 1x1. It has a better ratio of blocks mined to blocks exposed. A 3x1 you mine 3 blocks to expose 8 so 3:8 ratio. 1x1 you mine 1 block and expose 4; 1:4 ratio.
    Also mobs don't spawn so I don't use torches in those mines.

  • @racoo00n

    Branch-mining with a height of 3 isn't efficient: If you mine 6 Blocks you get 2 rows done. That's 2x8=16 blocks exposed. If you mine 6 blocks in a 2x1 tunnel, you get 3 rows done and you expose 3x6=18 blocks.

    • @Andy-qn7py
      @Andy-qn7py 2 роки тому

      Yea it's a waste to do 3x1.
      I also don't agree with the gap of 3 between tunnels. An even higher gap, like 4 or 5, is better. Yes you will miss some diamonds between tunnels, but you do increase the probability of finding a new vein behind each block you mine, thus increasing efficiency.

  • @neonjoe529
    @neonjoe529 2 роки тому +3

    2x1 tunnels are more efficient than 3x1.
    With 2x1, another 6 blocks are exposed.
    With 3x1, it’s 8 blocks.
    So, for every 6 blocks broken, you’ll expose 18 blocks with a 2 high tunnel and 16 blocks with a 3 high tunnel.
    1x1 is even more efficient but I think it’s annoying :)

    I_DISAGREE_WITH_AVOMANCE_#25 --- you can have up to 26 empty spaces (not 25) between torches in a straight line, & both of the central 2 spaces will have a light level of 1.
    HOWEVER
    If you're trying to cover a 2-dimensional area, then you might want them a bit closer together, at-least 1 torch per chunk, because light drops by 2 levels for each diagonal space.

    Mobs can not break down doors that are open. So when you place a door sideways, so that at the moment of placing it looks open, then when you "close" it, zombies think that door is already open and so they wont even try to break through. Also, they can not break down fence gates.

    Creeper near your base----> get some cats and dogs for the skellys.
    If you are branch mining for Ancient Debris it is best to keep your tunnels 2 block apart. And yes branch mining is more efficient in finding Ancient Debris than using a bed.
    Hint, when branch mining after you have created a labyrinth of tunnels you can get confused as to which way is out. I put my torches on the right side as I go away from the starting point and a torch on the intersection of a main tunnel back to start. So it is like this; Tunnel 100 blocks straight torches on the right and some on the floor. Branch right or Left 100 blocks with torches on the right side if looking away from the main tunnel. I know this helps to get out easily.

    • @LuulitaCD
      @LuulitaCD 2 роки тому +6

      This actually confused me a little in the video. You see, if you break a chest, the piglins get mad, just as if you opened it. I thought that applied to shulkers as well. The version of this trick I've always seen doesn't involve chests or shulkers at all, only the hopper. Because you can interact with the hopper as you please, the piglins won't care.

    I disagree with Avomance - I must have terrible world gen because 25% of the time I only get one diamond block, so that is why I mine three blocks tall with two blocks between the mine shafts

      Usually if I only find one diamond ore block there is a second one diagonally touching it, so always mine the blocks around your diamond ores!

    These are great tips, Mr. Avo. I am proud to say, I think I picked these tips up from you before as I do most of them (except the bastian (spelling?) as I have yet to find one in any of my worlds - but that may be my fault as I'm so afraid of getting lost in the nether that I don't wander too far from my portal - I lost a couple of worlds because I was miserably lost that way).
    I would like to ask you something though, if I may. I know it's 8 blocks difference between the nether and the overworld BUT I can never remember which way that goes...is it for every 8 blocks in the nether you go 1 block in the overworld or 1 block in the nether you go 8 blocks in the overworld? This is something I should know but, sadly, playing a solo world you don't get input from others. Also, I have a portal in the overworld to the nether but when I returned, it was to a portal in a cave some distance away, how do I fix that? Knowing the 8 block rule, would help, I'm sure...I hope. I know you can't answer every question you are asked (and I asked two , not one) and I get that and completely understand. But I'll keep watching your videos and you may explain it sometime in the future. You always do! LOL
    Thank you for all your tips and tricks. They are always (ALWAYS) helpful, Sir.

    • @RocktPlays
      @RocktPlays 2 роки тому +1

      It's one block in the nether will make you move 8 blocks in the overworld. So people use the nether to travel faster from point to point in the overworld.
      Ex, if you wanna go 1000 blocks east in the overworld, you just have to move 125 blocks east in the nether and open a new portal.
      Your second issue with the portal at the wrong place, you'll need to watch specific videos on portal linking

    • @LuulitaCD
      @LuulitaCD 2 роки тому +1

      One block in the Nether is eight in the Overworld. This makes portals brilliant for long-distance overworld travel, to stuctures and biomes, etc. You just build roads in the Nether.
      Always, always note your coordinates, or mark your way somehow. Bring a stack of cobblestone (it rarely occurs naturally, and never in the Nether), and set up two-tall waymarkers as you go. Place a torch on the side you came from. Heck, if the visibility is decent in the open, a single cobble or torch will do.
      Hope this is of some help. :)

      The point of using a shulker box is the items don't end up on the ground, you can't pick up a barrel with items in it, only shulkers. If you're going to use a barrel and break it, just break the chest instead.

    I once dug my mine tunnels in a 1x2 at level 11 ( in the old days before minus levels) with 2 blocks between tunnels. Then on the left of that 2, I dug down 3 blocks and did another tunnel. Then on the right side I went up 3. That way I could see every block from level 8 to 14. ( So they were like straight, down, up, straight, down, up). This could also have been done another time up and down to maximise the full 5 to 16 radius, not missing a block. 😉 Now with the way all ores are placed in the game its useless.

    I disagree with avomance 😅 when I mine for diamonds I go strat to -59 then pop a trapdoor and go prone I then branch mine in a straight line till I hit lava then on my way back I mine to the side come back skipp 2 blocks and mine back to og tunnel and continue to zig zag like that usually have all the diamonds I need first day also doesn't leave room for spawns of any kind so I can mine without torches
