I'll admit I'm kinda... not "suspicious" but I can't think of another term. Part of what makes DRG work so well is how carefully planned out and designed the 4 classes of deep rock are. So hearing that they're going to introduce 5 brand new classes + MORE makes it seem like each class isn't going to be given that same degree of care compared to the original. Edit: or, I say the "Care" since... Well, DRG's classes are so carefully tuned that they perfectly compliment each-other and get players to co-operate without even thinking about it. But, this only really works when the game is designed around THE four pillar classes. I have a feeling that a game with like 9 classes will end up with each one being less distinct and "necessary".
Okay. I see where they are going. You can have different weapons from across the DRG franchises. But the classes in particular has the unique feature to them that is actually permanent. So one has the wrist mounted light saber like you are Doom Guy. And the other has a drone Esq flacon that goes wherever you point. That’s the “unique” part of the class where the rest goes full rogue lite and get the random upgrades and weapons. This is certainly different from the base game. But hopefully they do still keep giving some love towards the base game and it won’t be forgotten. The seasons seem fine and having take so long allows us to grind out the previous seasons we might have missed. Which I’m fine with that.
i mean like devs already say they want rogue core to be it's own universe if i remember correctly. So if it's to be like that then i can see deep rock galactic will be somewhat of a "narrative" game where they explore deeper into the lore of the game each season meanwhile rogue core will completely focus on gameplay ( i mean it's a roguelite after all) and probably just explore around the core stones.
Great video! Love the update and am very exited for rogue core! Quick question, did they mention anything about the game having cross-play during the stream? One of my biggest gripes with DRG is the lack of cross-play and rogue core would be absolute peak if I could play it with my friends who are on console.
The lootbug piggy bank... either a collectable you never use and just cherish it... or use of and destroy it when the time comes to get the riches. Full circle for all walks of drg life.
Slicer, Falconeer, Guardian, Spotter, and Gorgon are the 5 classes. That last one... I wonder if it'll live up to its name? Regardless, I look forward to trying out all of them!
Idea that you need to share upgrades with other players is double edge sword. On one side you sure do need to communicate more with your team on what upgrades you take, but on the other it would create form of competition between players on "who would grab this", and lack of it was the reason why DRG had so friendly community. Also there will be situations when you would not be able to communicate with your teammates due to language barrier or other reasons.
i dont think language barriers would matter much during upgrading since there is a sort of "i want this please dont pick this" feature already in the game. but i can still see how competition could still be a problem.
I'm 100% picking this game up just on principle alone. I'm PR1k in DRG, have everything unlocked, all classes maxed, plus 11 more promotions each to reach PR999 exactly. I love coop PvE and love rogue likes. The new classes are looking so cool and same with the new enemies. It has more of a horror vibe to it. I'm extremely excited. I hope there's some sort of cross compatibility with the cosmetics. So you can use any cosmetics you've unlocked in DRG but then there's new ones in Rogue Core that you can also unlock and use in the DRG. If that makes sense. It's a long shot but man, the love I would have for Ghost Ship would reach new heights I didn't think possible.
Honestly I dont play much drg at the moment, but I still want for the community to be happy and for the company to be succsessful and I think this could be a great game! And I still watch some of your videos, because I like the way you do videos and I like how you love this franchise :D
Seems they're trying a bunch of little projects as they develop RC. I haven't played drg in a while but this will get me back in. Best co op shooter I ever played in how people tended to actually be friendly and cooperative
If only this stuff could be in the actual Deep Rock Galactic. DRG looks so empty compared to this, i don't understand why they could've have added this into the normal game.
Yo good sir! Thanks for the quick update. Definitely looking forward to RC! One quick question, Not sure if I was just confused by the roadmap, but is DRG season 6 essentially ‘delayed’ to sometime in 2026 then at the soonest?
Season 6 will be worked on once RC gets released into early access. Currently they said they have no plans for what S6 will be, all focus is on the new game. They stated that they wanted to put all their eggs in one basket so that we don't get a half baked update and a half baked game at the same time rather 2 full, well developed experiences
I’m the first to say ghost ship games is a great company product wise and community wise with what they have done the last 5 or so years. However, I would still be very careful about calling ANY game a “master piece” based on one gameplay reveal in early alpha(ish), especially when the game isn’t even set to fully release for over a year. Open beta is late next year.
I'm not the biggest fan of rougelikes and having to make your build as you go. The way DRG is, being able to tune your build before mission is why I like it. But it's a popular format for a reason. Lots of replayability and you get to test things you normally wouldn't, even if it's out of necessity. I'm sure I'll enjoy it just as much.
would be cool if they gave us, for who bought ofc, the dlc armors from drg in rogue core but we'll see if it fits and is possible,... just saying is all

I would be cautiously optimistic. I think Season 6 will be the last Season, at least foe a _looooong_ time. The game is technically "complete," Seasons were always just a bonus thing to reward the playerbase for being dedicated.

This argument makes no sense. Did Borderlands 3 "split up" the Borderlands 2 playerbase? Are developers not allowed to move onto new games when they want? Plenty of people will still play DRG. You only need 4 players for a party in DRG anyways, so I don't see how you'll struggle to get a group together even if most leave for Rogue Core.
They also said DRG's code is too old and outdated for something like this. It would likely tank DRG's performance. Besides, DRG is a finished game. Seasons were a bonus, not a promise. The game has been past 1.0 for years now. You got what you paid for. Also, let's assume they put this new roguelike gamemode into DRG - how would that be any different than making it a new game?
