Your videos are exactly what I have been looking for. I love the raw nature of them. You don’t try be too fancy. Lots of good info and great footage. Thanks!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. Always good to know people are enjoying the hard work that goes into making these, even if it is something I enjoy. 😊
Congrats on your safe arrival. Beautiful views indeed. You are right it is a little bit unsettling flying over open water and then descending for the approach. Really enjoying this series and can't wait for the next episode.
Good job Wings. Loved the Bahamas in the same way as the pics and comments you made. Please brief youself on scuba + flying there are serious issues. Be well Dave
Thanks! Yes, very familiar with the guidelines around flying and scuba diving. We didn’t dive on this trip and are generally overly cautious about it. Have fun!
Thanks for this. Reminds me of a trip I made from Ottawa to West Palm to Nassau in my AA-1 Yankee over Christmas/New Year 77/78, before there were video cameras!
That sounds amazing, too. Are you still flying? If so, I'm from Ottawa originally and get up there from time to time, we'll have to go up for a flight together.
In June 78 I flew my Yankee to Vancouver to take up a new job. Except for a couple of short intervals back east I’ve been on the west coast ever since. I now live in Salmon Arm (halfway between Vancouver and Calgary on the Trans Canada Highway) and keep my RV-4 GWYR at CZAM. I fly regularly with the Vernon Snowflakes. You can find some video at letsflywinter UA-cam channel. A number of us might head to OSH this summer, and I may carry on to NS. We’ll see!
@@hamiltonmcclymont1967 Nice, I love it out west, but I need to get some mountain flying training before I take my plane out there! I'll check out your videos, I love seeing mountain flying shots. You'll have to let me know if you fly out to NS, maybe we can meet up in the Toronto area.
I laughed. We literally went to Target and bought 3 of those XL sized kids shades that suction cup onto the windows, they are lifesavers. I also have a few cling type tinted things but they keep falling down and are only OK if perfectly clean. Suction cups work so much better. Being from Florida, I feel your sweating pain, we really pound hours in the Winter when it's smooth as glass out there!! No big puffy clouds to dodge!
LOL. That’s a good point about those clingy ones not working so well after they get dirty, I hadn’t thought of that. Question for you about flying in Florida in the winter: someone mentioned to my wife that he won’t sail to Florida in January because it’s too windy. We’re thinking of flying through Florida again in January on the way to the Turks and Caicos, so I was about to look into it to see if it really is that windy and if it’s an issue for flying, but based on what you wrote it seems like it’s a good time to fly there. Is that true? January is good for flying in Florida?
@@WingsOverTO yah cooler weather is so much better to fly in. Calm days, no thunderstorms popping up or anything. I guess if you have a front rolling through that's one thing but in general thunderstorms aren't around. We tried flying to Illinois 2 years ago and had to turn around and stop in Cedar Key (shortest runway in FL) trying to wait it out after being told by ATC to find some place to put down as it was too dangerous ahead. I have flown up in the winter and Spring to IL and never had a single issue. In Florida in the Summer you can guess by 1pm to have thunderstorms popping up every single day. You either fly early in the morning or you fly at night. The day will leave you stranded in places waiting out the weather.
Enjoy your videos heading south to the Bahamas. Be careful on your journey's. Wife & I are heading south to Spanish wells Eleuthera in April. Doing some fishing, snorkeling and relaxing.
You definitely should. Flying around the Bahamas is spectacular. Wait til you see the landing at Staniel Cay in the next video (or maybe the one after that, not sure yet).
Interesting that you called gear up at 1:53, and the nose gear still wasn't up by the time the camera cut away at 2:17. Does it normally take ~30 seconds to raise the gear?
Yes. The previous owner of my plane is 6’4” and he really liked the cabin. It’s taller and wider than just about any plane in the class. He only sold the plane because the RV his grandfather built became available to buy, and he wanted it for sentimental reasons.
@@MuzixMaker yeah, I don't quite understand the people who are absolutely terrified of flying over water in a single. Well, I understand it, I guess my risk tolerance is just a bit higher. Would I fly over the Atlantic in my Sierra? Heck no. But 20 minutes over open water to the Bahamas? What are the chances that it's in those 20 minutes, out of all the flying I do, that something is going to go wrong? Plan, prepare and do it - if something goes wrong, try to be as prepared for it as possible. That's my thinking, anyway.

Which days in April will you be at Spanish Wells? My wife and I are heading there as well. One of our 4 stops for this Bahamas trip.
@@terrypedersen7 Fly in to North Eleuthera 22nd.
We are heading to Spanish Wells on April 4th for a few nights then Staniel Cay, Long Island and Cat Island. Heading north on April 18th. Enjoy!

Yeah, the Sierras have a VERY slow gear extension and retraction time. It's a bit unnerving. :)
In your opinion, would a 6'4" person be comfortable in the pilot's seat of a Sierra?
Yes. The previous owner of my plane is 6’4” and he really liked the cabin. It’s taller and wider than just about any plane in the class. He only sold the plane because the RV his grandfather built became available to buy, and he wanted it for sentimental reasons.

Great video! Shared it with my wife...that might've been a mistake! Not sure how long it would take in our Li'l QuT...
Thanks! That’s a new one to me - what’s a QuT?
Our Cherokee C-GQUT, Li'l Q(U)T
In a single?
Yup 😀
People do it all the time
