Nice job! That hot tub looks great! That Shop Vac sure came in handy there. If you’re interested in a pump, I have a Drummond 1/6HP submersible pump from Harbor Freight, and it’s great. I don’t have a pool or hot tub, but I do have rain barrels, and it pumps water out of those with more flow than a regular garden hose hooked up to a house. I remember it was around $60-$70, a few months ago when I bought it. It’s pretty sturdy and has a good, long cord on it too.
Your demo was fantastic, thank you! We do have a larger hose and it gets the emptying done in less than an hour. We also empty every 3 months to clean. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! Yeah my original time length I realized is too long. I would say maybe 6 months to a year, however it will all vary depending on usage.
Great video! You do not "need" to have a submersible pump or shop vac to remove the remaining water. I use a bucket to scoop out as much of the remaining water as possible, then I use a large sponge to soak up the rest of the water and squeeze it out in the bucket. Doesn't take long.

It's been almost a year since we got ours and haven't drained and refilled it, we don't use it very often but we always keep it active, i can't wait to see the scum foam lolol
My hot tub is around 2 years old and I change the water about every 3-4 months. I have always used a sub pump to drain it but last time when refilling the tub I made the mistake of filling back up without placing the hose in the filter compartment so I created an air lock (not good). So then I had to remove the panel and access the pump to bleed the air out. However while I was down there I opened the gravity drain valve and the most horrible smelling water came out. Does this mean that when tub is drained using a sub pump that one still must open gravity drain valve to let any remaining water out of the lines?
Now ya know how to fill it ;) I have everything open so that it would allow the water to drain as much as possible. It's also possible that the water in your drain line sits in there for a long time, and maybe there was some build up. It may not be a bad idea to open the drain occasionally for a short time just to flush the line out.

Hmm, if I remember right, it was probably 2 or 3 hours. I think it should probably be fine. If it does the same function as the Ahh-Some did, it should be all good. You certainly can take in water with the shop vac, that's what it's designed for! Only thing to note is, you must remove the filter when doing wet vacuuming like that. On that particular vacuum, there is a float inside for when it is full. When the hose suddenly stops taking stuff in, and you hear the motor rev up, then it's time to empty it.
i had a service guy clean my tub with gel gloss and didnt remove it below water line drained cleaned tub and replaced filters and still have the residue will this purge remove this type residue from a swimspa? appreciate any advice
Water Doctor here. Hot tub water should be replaced every 60-90 days OR when TDS reaches 1,200-1,500 ppm. The purging of the pipes should be done every other drain. Unless you WANT the cuddies.
How often do you add chemicals? If i keep up the recommended weekly regime and the wife and I only bathe once a week on average the water is unusable with the air vents open because of the foam and gas build up within 5 weeks.
I am having problems balancing the water FCL levels last few months. I have a Caldera Geneva 6 months old. (New) wit a salt system. The salt system is not keeping up with our use 5-10 times a week. FCL is so often reduced to 0,20.... So 2 times a week I have to add 120 - 240 manual liquid chlorine in it to keep FCL chlorine levels around 1-1,5 ! Would purging with Ahh-Some be advised to do even if this is a new hot tub, which has this since the beginning? (Salt system not keeping up with chlorine needs)
I would recommend using Fresh n Clear in between uses. It oxidizes without a high chlorine level. If the chlorine still remains low, use dichlor to increase the level. Liquid chlorine has a ph of 13 and can cause you to have to add even more chems to to lower it. Have you looked at your salt cell? If you have scale build up it will reduce chlorine production, if not stop it. Also keep in mind liquid chlorine can raise your salt content and some systems will shut down if too high. I love what I do! P.S. with that much usage, you need to Darin every 3 to 4 months. Just sayin.
Just to confirm, you have replaced the disposable salt cartridge at least once already - right? That needs to be replaced every 3 or so months in your case. Also, you should get your phosphates level tested and I recommend Cleanse Weekly by Natural Chemistry as a perfect complement to the heavy use and importance of maintaining Low Phosphates in your FWTR tub… hope this helps!
2 years?! You must not use your hot tub very often.... I am almost at 4 months and the water is stinnnnnnnky lol. And I stay on top of my levels too and use bromine. Not chlorine. Not sure how you can make it that long.... that's incredible lol. My wife and ivuse our hot tub twice a week every week. Some times 3 times a week

Hmm not too sure on that unfortately. Maybe a pool store person will know.
Not sure if this has been asked or answered but what type and model hot tub is this...would like to buy one....brand, model price?
This is made by Divine, it is the Sinclair model. The cost was a few thousand.
Might want to check the description ;)
thats a super nice hot tub
It does work well! Aside from doing this every 2 years, it's not all that bad for maintenance!
at 12k it better be
lol a “couple or few thousand”
Thanks for the great info!
Hey no problem at all!
Morning,I have just bought first hot tub,iam getting a white scum line around the water line, I have bought a recommended surface cleaner for hot tub,it will not clean off, help
Maybe try one of those blue (non-scratch) kitchen sponges with the scrubber on one side. See if that helps ya.
@@Sharkie626 tried it
@@davidrevitt7145 Yeah? Hmm. See if maybe there's a hot tub cleaner specifically for that purpose. Hopefully it's nothing permanent.
@@Sharkie626 thanks for replying, I have a aquasparkle water line cleaner, was thinking of trying baking powder and distilled water into a paste,or white vinegar and distilled water,
What chemicals do u use ? And how many times a week
Most often it's Chlorine and Alkalinity up. During the summer I'd say that I'd re-add one a week, maybe once every two weeks.
you do not put any chemicals?
I did that afterwards.
Great video
Thanks a lot for watching!
I change my water every 2-3 months because i like a clean tub
That’s a really cool hot tub. I would like to know where you got it and how much it was.
It was from Costco. They can be expensive. If I remember right it was on sale, and was a couple to a few thousand.
Sharkie626 Come to Germany here you pay for your spa class from a German company 13 000$ - 20 000$ 😅😂 I know Germany is expensive
@@Friendoo That much?? Whew.
Sharkie626 That’s Germany 🇩🇪😂😃😕
Btw Keep up the great content !! I’ve never seen such a great video for drain a spa !👍👍
$4-14k
Any reason I cannot use vinegar and baking soda?
Unsure, though I have never tried it myself.
I was told to do it every 4-6 months! Is it really true you can just do it once a year?? That would save so much hassle!
If it doesn't get heavy usage, one or two years should be just fine!
Sharkie626 thank you! This is so helpful! How do you know if your water needs to be drained? Other then time?
@@BattleDamageReport I just go by time really. It's really when you feel it is time to do it.
@@BattleDamageReport Lots of people end up with excessive suds and foam when using the jets even when not purging. If you’re having trouble keeping the balance or with too much foam, usually good to purge and drain.
@@woodyrule126 so is once every year or two possible?? Is it common?
Isn't there suppose to be a gfci disconnect there with a gfci breaker? that is an AC disconnect, not code for a hot tub
The GFCI breaker is in the basement.
nice view!
Thanks! Is pretty nice at night.
What type of hot tub is this?
This is the Divine brand, Sinclair model.
Here there is a 1 inch wide pvc tube that really speeds up the emptying process by siphoning it. Probably about nine feet long. It came with the house.
I now have a pump. That along with the regular drain has made the process much faster! :D
@@Sharkie626 we just moved (probably temporarely) to a house that has a spa from 2004. It doesn't have as many jets as yours...im going to clean and drain it and see if there is sponge in the pipes if that FLO message is still there. what a nightmare
isn't turning your jets on without a filter a big no-no?
Not for this instance.
lol. every year or 2???? every season my man.
I'm not too confident in the rest of this info now
That's 4 times a year. The use that this hot tub gets is not all that much, so the amount of time we do it has been all good. Maybe every year could be okay.
2 years?? We change our water every 4 months.
Yeah? Yours must get a lot of use!
2 yrs ?... I do it 4 times a year....usage must be the factor ....by the way ....big fan.❤️
....also are you in U.S currently?
Oh yeah definitely usage for sure. Thanks for watching!
Yep! I am in the US.
Most people say that's body oil you see in the suds
Could very well be.
Every 1-2 years?? I’ve been seeing that you should do it 3-4 times a year.
I have since updated the description as of last year.
good job
Thanks a lot!
@@Sharkie626 youre welcome
22 min later, i still don't know how to drain my spa
I only clicked on this video because of how many jets it has, like jeez I wish I could have one of those but I live in a condo
Yeah it's pretty cool. Luckily they don't all have to be on at the same time.
@@Sharkie626 i wish I could see all them on at once though
@@LifeofLeium I have a couple videos of that if ya want to see that!
good god that's a lot of jets
Hospital towels? Who works in surgery? 🙋🏽♀️
One of my folks did!
@@Sharkie626 I have boxes of them🤦🏽♀️
