    As a Cards fan, I’m so relieved Chavez’s catch wasn’t the difference. That play is shown all the time and instead of it being a painful reminder, I can just admire one of the greatest catches of all time.

    As a cards fan, I really appreciate the context for this game and series. I remember being absolutely shocked that Chavez stole that homer from Rolen. If the Mets win this series and then the WS, that catch is one of the greatest in baseball history. Unfortunately for Mets fans, it didn’t work out and its largely forgotten. The strikeout of Beltran is one of the nastiest pitches every, especially considering Beltran’s history against the cards. He used to torch us in the playoffs as part of the astros killer B’s. Great content either way.

    I first started watching baseball after a trip to New York in 2006. I’m from England, so I didn’t know a thing about the game. I remember going for a trip to Shea Stadium one day so I could cross it off my list. The Mets were playing the Florida Marlins and as I stood outside the stadium taking photos, I got chatting to a local who kindly walked me through the basic rules of the game. Seemed fine. It was a game I was never interested in, but it was nice to chat with a New York native. I arrived back in England, which is five hours ahead of New York, and slipped back into my normal routine of chronic insomnia. I rarely slept more than an hour, so much of the nighttime was spent drowsily flicking through the TV channels. I had no idea they showed MLB on British television. Two shows a week, showing a live game on Wednesday and Sunday. It was halfway through July 2006 and by the beginning of August I was completely obsessed with the game. I knew all the stats from that year and was eagerly looking forward to the postseason where my Mets team would annihilate all the other teams on the way to the World Series. The Dodgers were good, but not great. The Cardinals were pretty mediocre with just a few good players (and one god). But the Mets had Reyes, Wright, Delgado, Glavin, Wagner and, the best of the bunch, Carlos Beltran. Detroit had collapsed in the second half of 2006, so I was pretty confident we’d beat them after we saw off the Cards. Well, I didn’t get to watch Game 7 against St. Louis because it wasn’t on British TV, so I had to watch the score unfold on the internet. I never knew the details of the final AB. I found out a year later from a Yankees fan in a bar when I returned to New York to watch the Mets win four straight games in September (yes, they actually won four straight games against the Astros and Braves… and I was there to watch all of them) on their way to another certain postseason. But, the Mets are the Mets, didn’t yet have Yohan Santana, and the Phillies had Ryan Howard and Chase Utley amongst others and the rest is history. I’d love to see this 2022 Mets team go all the way. They’re a true team and they have one of the greatest pitchers to ever take the mound. I should’ve put tl;dr at the beginning, but if you came this far, you’re probably a Mets fan and you’re glad your crazy team has such a positive impact on a guy who lives 3,000 miles away.

    9:40 The first pitch to Beltran was a changeup, not a fastball; notice the 84 MPH speed. That’s what froze Beltran as Wainwright at that time rarely threw a changeup. One of the few times to this day Wainwright ever shaked off Yadi.

    • @dc4690
      @dc4690 Рік тому

      Na that’s not what happened.
      After the bases were loaded yadi went out to talk adam about what to throw...They decided on a fast ball to start.
      But then when yadi got back to home plate he started thinking and got worried about adam leaving a fastball out over the plate for Beltran.
      So instead he gave adam the ‘scratch that,follow me‘ gesture and put down change-up.

    I remember watching that game, being a Cardinal fan, the last guy I wanted to see up in the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded was Beltran because he absolutely owned the Cardinals when he was an Astro during the ‘04 and ‘05 NLCS. One thing people forget about that Cardinal team, they won over a 100 games the previous 2 seasons and the core of those teams was still intact in 2006. If that 2006 line up had the 2015 pitching... The Mets would probably be 110 -52 with a championship under their belt. The best line up was probably that 2006 team over the last 25 years or so. Deadly!!! We just needed pitching like in 2015... No doubt in my mind though that the world series was indeed played in the NLCS.... Detroit had no chance against whom ever, i just knew it. Sorry Tigers fans! This is coming from a Mets fan. We know about broken heart! In 2006 we won the battles, but lost the war! 97-65. If our closing wasn't so sketchy, we'd be champs. Please Mets, restore family day and banner day.... PS: I don't blame Beltran as much as i look at the relief and how Wagner seem to be ineffective. Randolph i believe even to this day still made the right choice with Heilman.

I’ll never forget Utley’s game winning hit and RBI against the Mets in 2007 for the Phillies to take the lead in the NL East division against the Mets. I was up in New Jersey watching it with my cousins who were Mets fans. I’ll never forget the look on their faces. Even if I was just 4. They were sick and horrified. We grew up mocking each other especially since I was a huge Utley fan, the known Met killer. I mean, you had possibly THE greatest, most memorable moment in the history of sports go in your favor to keep you alive in a World Series that you went on to win, And you had maybe the greatest rags to riches Cinderella story in the history of sports 17 years earlier… Two legendary, historic success stories, which is probably more than a lot of franchises have had in that same time period.

    This dude is clearly too young to understand being a Mets fan. It actually began right after they won the 86 World Series. 1987, they were supposed to be better and everyone got hurt, 88 they lost to Mike Sciosia and the Dodgers when they were the best team in the league. Trend continued with horrifically bad teams, Strawberry leaving and Generation K becoming a failure in the mid 90s. Then falling short of the postseason in 97 and 98 when they only had to win 1 game. Battles with the Braves in 1999, losing to the Yankees in the 2000 World Series,a deal for ARod falling apart, Griffey nixing a trade to the Mets, underachieving in 2001. Art Howe being a failure along with Robby Alomar and Mo Vaughn.

    You're selling the 2015 Royals very short. If you recall, and most Mets fans do not, Royals were just as much of an underdog story as anyone else in baseball. The problem is Mets fans always think they're the underdog, even in 2022 with a top 5 payroll. But I digress. The 2014 Royals were actually one of the greatest post season teams in history. They took the wildcard, swept the ALDS, ALCS, and took the "semi" dynasty Giants into Game 7 of the World Series down by only a run. The fact that Bumgarner came in and shut them down was basically a hail Mary cheat code that managed to work. So, when the Royals came back in 2015 - they came back with a vengeance. Had they have won in 2014, they might have had one of the greatest stories in recent history.
    That being said, The Mets played their heart out in the NLDS and NLCS - defeating the 1-2 punch of Kershaw and Grienke which was awesome. Daniel Murphy was a legend and David Wright got to see a World Series despite being laid out for most of the back end of his career. Game 5 was a gem and watching Matt Harvey that night was electric. I would have absolutely sent him out in the 9th and despite the revisionist history, Mets fans _all_ wanted Harvey back out in the 9th. Terry Collins was in a no-win, had Harvey have been pulled and the Mets blew it, we'd never hear the end about how Harvey should've been and of course, Harvey goes back out and all the Mets fans think he should've been pulled. Familia was having a career year but he got put into a situation with basically no easy way out. Mets played well but the Royals outdid them fair and square. This idea that the Royals stole the Mets glory is insane to me. They were just as deserving.
