Seriously just stumbled across them in 2024 and I love what I’m hearing! So grateful to have found them, only wish it were sooner. So layered etheric, magical, sexy How did I never hear of this band before it’s criminal
I always wondered where this song title came from. In Aztec mythology, the mother of the universe and of all gods is called Coatlicue and she wears a skirt of writhing snakes.
The fact that this comment is from 15 years ago... It makes me want to cry 💔 Glad we were all brought here across different times to listen to this beautiful song.
nothing has really spoken to me the way this song did at the right time and the right place. maybe is the way fraser got inspired from motherhood and coping, but she ended up singing one of the most comforting and nostalgic songs for me.
recently found this by accident on spotify, and I think this is quite possibly the most beautiful song I have heard. It almost sounds otherworldly and wouldn't be surprised if it gets really famous one day.
Better late than never. you have a lot of catching up to do, so check out bands like, Ride, The Telescopes, Kitchens of Distinction, then let me know what you think.
years passed since i heard it, now it doesn't make such effect.. but "frou frou foxes.." from "heaven .." , "does anytime and "treasure hiding" definitly do it all the time!
The escenario of the song is absolutely sad. But the architecture on the blending of instruments, the integrity of the style, the philosophical position of the lyrics, it’s like a room where everything’s is broken starts lighting up from the chest of the singer. It is sad but she flies over it. A true winged being, all of them. Musicians as magicians.
He was a lovely fella. I used to chat to him occasionally and comment on his videos he made. I didn’t know he had passed until over a year after it happened 😞 you could tell he had an intense passion for The Cocteau Twins, they brought him a lot of joy and love
This album is so excellent. My favorite songs on this one are "Serpentskirtt" (of course), "Half-gifts", and "Rilkean Heart". I'm learning the guitar part. The drums in this are so awesome. Liz has such a beautiful voice and eyes too. Great job on the video!
The lyrics and melody are devastatingly sad. I feel and see and hear the lushness, but the overwhelming sorrow is most apparent..beautiful in a heart stopping way
I clearly recall the day I brought this home from the local library. It just wasn't available to buy from the local record shop. Best I could do was have it on order. Rushing home to play it, I first listened to Elizabeth Fraser being interviewed live by Jenni Murray on Woman's Hour. Crikey. It was like having teeth pulled out the old fashioned way; only with gas if you were Lucky. Miss Fraser was so nervous. Naturally, Jenni Murray was really gentle with her. Thank goodness it was on Radio 4 without any loud, annoying, bangingly inane advertising. Indeed, without the need for an advert break to further disturb what little rapport Ms. Murray had been able to establish with Miss Fraser. Anyway. They sounded like they were at least having a good laugh. My abiding memory is of much laughter on the radio that morning. At last, I played the CD and Oh My Goodness. It exceeded any expectations I had tried not to have for it. Coming so closely on the heels of Four Calendar Cafe which, as any older Cocteau Twins fan will know, was so very unusual and unexpected. Then, almost as though that were an omen, it was all of a sudden, 0ver. Yes, I understand Elizabeth Fraser's reasoning. Her inability to continue making music with Robin Guthrie. Her inability to "fake it". Remember, we'd not long lost Kurt Cobain for almost exactly the same reasons so, thank goodness Messrs. Fraser, Raymonde & Guthrie remained relatively safe. Selfishly, I just still feel so bereft that Cocteau Twins are no longer in this world. I did not see it coming. Cocteau Twins had been a marvellous, wondrous, Pearly Dew Drop of goodness since 1980. In a world that had been getting progressively grimmer year on year since May 1979, their Sugar Hiccups were my Treasure. It would be just over another year until May 1997 when finally, the maddening, cruel, wicked darkness of idiosyncratic Thatcherite rule would finally, finally, be in the collective rear view mirror, until its resurgence in 2010. I will always miss Cocteau Twins. Milk & Kisses contains some of their finest work. Elizabeth Fraser's voice, alongside her lyrics were maturing delightfully. As for the music, Simon Raymonde still had some asserting to do, against the up front & present Guthrie Pedals. I suppose that is really what hurt. Milk & Kisses certainly is informed by everything that Cocteau Twins did before yet, from my listening perspective, there is something there, like a smile being denied from ever breaking out into a great big toothy grin, followed by a great big belly laugh. Despite what people say about Heaven or Las Vegas. It may well be Ivo's favourite Cocteau Twins record but . . . Well, it's not mine. I'll take Victorialand or, Milk & Kisses over that. Any day.
Seeing them in SF and LA in '87 and 1991, fun, fun, fun. Im 57 years old now, I guess I'm Liz Frasier's age, my gf friend Lynx and I agreed on Cocteau Twins and only 3 other bands, including Rush and Geddy Lee, Innocence Mission, otherwise she was girl bands, and I was boy bands, sort of... Wavers ahoy...,ahem! Hi Snail, you out there?!?
Saw them back then too. Ha, I thought I was the "only" one who Loved Rush and CT, 👍. I saw Rush for their Hemisphere's tour in a little theater in "Fresno" with Pat Travers opening, in 78. Saw CT twice in late 80s.
Liz Fraser must be treasured for the rest of eternity. A very heavenly body that no person will ever come close to ever again. She will be forever one of the greatest voices to cherish.
Loved them as a teenager in the 80's, love them even more now I'm in my forties! Cocteau Twin were, are & shall always remain a comfort & joy to me!!!xxx
When being heralded into heaven, this is the choir I believe one hears.Let us not forget that extremely low end bass line either. It almost sounds like an old classical stand up bass.Aww,what am I blathering on about?Everyone in this band is great! Thanks shum.Another jewel presented by you!
I'm a volunteer stage setup for The New Hope Band in San Jose & I wish they could play at least 1 song from the Cocteau Twins. It would move the world.❤❣️
This incredible song alway will remind me beautiful sunny and colourful fall in Poland many many years ago when I was a student, and during that time I explored this amazing project. Always will stay in my heart, this music is like dreamland
Those voices! I love it when someone blissfully unaware, hears me play this and asks "who's the girl group?" "It's one talented singer who can harmonise with herself and was decades ahead of her peers! So you can either stick around to listen or just p*** off!!?"
Milk and Kisses is such an amazing album. The songs on this album express the most amazing feeling of pure joy and shum65 captures their beauty of presence so eloquently through his videos! Such an amazing reflection of their sound through one's own interpretation via video presentation...shum65 please take a bow!!! I will roll out the red carpet for you and personally take you to the Kingdom of Heaven because you deserve it!
Great pick! I'm just starting to get into them, and a handful of their tracks are already in my favorite songs of all time list (which I do not add to lightly!) Namely Serpentskirt Cherry-coloured Funk Carolyn's Fingers
Bach would have loved this. He exactly sought out this layered singing sensation for his piece "Komm süsser Tod", but for his piece it was to highlight the intensity of meeting the reaper. If you ever come across a layered version of Bachs' piece it will be absolutely schizophrenic to listen to on your headphones - But live with a choir it's the eeriest sonic experience you can have.

All of their songs sound like a cold but refreshing shower in darker shades of blue and green. I probably sound ridiculous rn
Nah you don't, any Cocteau Twins fans know exactly what you mean, everyone's got their own experience listening to their music.
Pink orange red
You should look into Synesthesia ;)
I imagine something like heavenly intensely blue sky and brightest shine above
Not at all. You sound poetic!

Seriously, find everything they’ve done, you won’t be disappointed!
one of my all time favs. enjoy
Without doubt one of the most individual and musically gifted bands of all time. Beautifully layered dreamy music with an inspirational quality.

At first I was just humming to this song, thinking "It sounds okay, dreamy" and then 2:24 hit and it suddenly hit
That is most definitely the best part of the track. Probably one of my favorite moments on the album. I get chills every time.
Goosebumps, everytime.

This song is heavenly
Suppose I should hate it so
Yet I can smell saliva
Palamino set afloat
Yet I can smell saliva
Hides it very well
As a baby
Has a playmate
Yeah baby
Yeah guess it's blown
Hides it very well
As a baby
Telling me words in Turkish
Your nosiness, your belly
Frantically or mimicly
Your nosiness, your belly
Has your mother gone
as a baby as a baby
Has a playmate
We are helpless as babies
As a baby
As a baby
Hides it very well
As a baby
Has a playmate
Has your mother gone
Reach out your hand
He seldom will
And a memory
Go out
He seldom will
Go out
He seldom will
Smart you should heal soon
An eagle spares your bedroom
Palominoes as we flow
An eagle spares your bedroom
Some forget where to go
They know fear again
