❤️ I had the privilege of attending The Nashville symphony last night Jan. 14,2024. Mr Dixon sang with them as they honored MLK jr. He was fabulous! I do t usually cry….but he moved me to tears!❤
He’s such a wonderful and spirited performer and a criminally underrated talent among classically trained tenors if I do say so myself. I always come back to this performance. Such a powerful and moving rendition.
I can't even hear Brian Stokes Mitchell sing this after the first time I heard Dixon completely murder this on both the recording and concert. His last note gives me chills all up and down my body. I do believe I wept the first time I heard it. Just flawless.
It’s called “baritone erasure”. First Douglas Hodge as Albin, then this, then Aaron Tveit as Sweeney… what’s next, Reeve Carney as Gaston in Beauty & the Beast?
I remember while I was in High School, he performed this to my choir class and all of us just cried. The version he did that day was the best live performance I think I'll ever hear.
I too have been graced by many live performances of Rod's at my Church, Old St. Pat's in Chicago. It's been quite a few years now, but he used to sing at our Christmas Mass. He would sing Oh Holy Night and there would never be a dry eye in all of Church. I always told him his voice was definitely a gift from God. I am grateful to call Rod amongst my friends.
Bless you my beloved, God showed me a revelation when i was on your profile to see things around you. my dear, I saw God's favor, Success, joy, breakthrough. Its 22 years later and this performance of the Flaherty and Ahrens, "Ragtime" classic, "Make Them Hear You" still rings in my ears from this concert. I actually love it even more than "Lift Every Voice" as an anthem!
i hadnt heard this song in years and it still gives me chills how powerful the lyrics are, especially with such a power voice/actor. Damn, this is some good stuff
Growing up my favorite days at church where the days Mr. Dixon would randomly show up. I’d walk into church and scan the choir and when he was there I’d always get excited he would always perform this song. A core memory for me.
Zuri, How can we get in touch with Roderick Dixon? I am coordinating a big Festival of the Arts For Peace DC and would love to have him perform this fabulous and meaningful sing to encourage young people to do their part in helping to make this a better world!
It breaks my heart that 100 years have passed since the era of Ragtime, yet once again, this song is pertinent to current struggles. Maybe our "president" needs to hear this, "...and say to those who blame us for the way we chose to fight, that sometimes there are battles which are more than black or white." At least this "side" is justified. So I say, "Go out and tell our story to your daughters and your sons. Make them hear you."
Well 16 more days and he is no longer President, and everything will be wonderful with rainbows & cookies and rivers of chocolate for the children to sip from as they run along all day to dance and play. /S
"...and remember we were not the only ones..." Many have heard, and the righteous men are making their voices heard. Yesterday, we finally cleared Monument Avenue of CSA memorials. We WILL make this country live up to its promises...for EVERYONE.
@@dclark142002 That’s fantastic. We must all continue fighting. Truth be told is that my generation and several after will be long gone before there will be true parity. Gotta keep making each generation hear the truth.
I just discovered this song! IT IS the SONG OF THIS MOMENT! My tears flowed. Never have I felt so much heartache for my brothers and sisters. Never have I longed for heart connection this much! Never have I been so frightened that we are losing everything we hold dear...everything that is right and true and beautiful. MAKE THEM HEAR!!! BLESSINGS TO ALL!
This needs to be played on max volume and on repeat at every protest and public place and government building and school and everywhere else right now! Also who is this man he is truly amazing!!!

Ella heim Comme I'm watching this in 2019 . I've been watching this since I bought the VCR version and approximately 2005 . I have exquisite joy each time I hear Rod Dixon and the others do their magic!
This song resonates in my spirit, way way past my heart, way past my mind, it hit in that special place where the Orisa and ancestor are. Make them Hear You!
Roderick's rendition is perfect. He sang at my church some years back. His voice and rendition inspired my son Victor who did a very good job with "Make them hear you"(Victor Solo from Ragtime) also on UA-cam.
I have the 3 mo tenors cd and dvd.. priceless every performance..this to me is the most stirring..tear inducing...so powerful..and with any lengthy generational struggle..the words " When they hear you, I'll be near you again" packs a whallop !❤
I just watched this man sing at Hank Aaron's funeral , I still have goosebumps.. the performance was absolutely incredible.. I really hope it gets posted on you tube
Go out and tell our story Let it echo far and wide Make them hear you Make them hear you How Justice was our battle And how Justice was denied Make them hear you Make them hear you And say to those who blame us For the way we chose to fight, That sometimes there are battles That are more than black or white And I could not put down my sword When Justice was my right Make them hear you Go out and tell our story to your daughters and your sons Make them hear you Make them hear you And tell them, "In our struggle, We were not the only ones" Make them hear you Make them hear you Your sword could be a sermon Or the power of the pen Teach every child to raise his voice And then my brothers, then Will justice be demanded by ten million riteous men Make them hear you- When they hear you, I'll be near you Again

Crazy how this comment aged so badly and I really wish it didn’t turn out that way. To whoever is now reading this, I pray we all heal from all this chaos. Believe.
Flashy wow I almost forgot about this comment, you’re right unfortunately. But I’m hoping with this movement being so global today that we can finally be able to make a change. I’m still using my voice to this day
Who is listening to this again in 2020?
So relevant.
2021🔥
2022
2022. Mad that I just learned about this incredible singer! And glad, lol

L. Michael Gipson his soul is singing....incredible...
Agree!!!! Completely! What a powerful voice and interpretation!
The anointing makes the difference.

So powerful. So beautiful. A song for now, with a path for the way forward.
One of THE greatest vocal performances I have ever heard.

Beautiful indeed, but Norm Lewis is better.
After having heard several versions, this is by far the only one that has made me cry. What an absolutely beautiful piece.
He owns this song!!!

i hadnt heard this song in years and it still gives me chills how powerful the lyrics are, especially with such a power voice/actor. Damn, this is some good stuff
On that last note, at the crescendo, I always imagine jets doing a fly by and fireworks, for some reason. Very inspirational song.
Growing up my favorite days at church where the days Mr. Dixon would randomly show up. I’d walk into church and scan the choir and when he was there I’d always get excited he would always perform this song. A core memory for me.
His name is Roderick Dixon he performed at my school. He is really good

This is so beautiful 💖
Why does he have so much air to last throughout the end? WHYYYY??? HOWWWW?!????!!!! DAMNIT!!
Training. Years and years and years of it.
It's called circular breathing and yes, it takes years of training.
Saxophonist Kenny G used the same technique to hold a note for almost an hour.
King Kong wow
Ikr
We hear you!!!
They'll hear us too.
This gives me life!
I just watched this man sing at Hank Aaron's funeral , I still have goosebumps.. the performance was absolutely incredible.. I really hope it gets posted on you tube
Such an important song in 2020. Let us hope we all hear
Go out and tell our story
Let it echo far and wide
Make them hear you
Make them hear you
How Justice was our battle
And how Justice was denied
Make them hear you
Make them hear you
And say to those who blame us
For the way we chose to fight,
That sometimes there are battles
That are more than black or white
And I could not put down my sword
When Justice was my right
Make them hear you
Go out and tell our story to your daughters and your sons
Make them hear you
Make them hear you
And tell them, "In our struggle,
We were not the only ones"
Make them hear you
Make them hear you
Your sword could be a sermon
Or the power of the pen
Teach every child to raise his voice
And then my brothers, then
Will justice be demanded by ten million riteous men
Make them hear you-
When they hear you, I'll be near you
Again
amazing
We are doing this song in our choir and I wanted to hear it to practice it, great version

It was never a country that works for all. And if we take it to what it used to be, it will be worse for most people.
I sing this song in music class ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
As a Black tenor and as one who has the Ragtime soundtrack, I can appreciate this.
