    My beardie laid eggs tonight and it scared me. She is approx 4 years old and this was her first clutch I have just learned this is the term for what is happening. As of now it has been like 25 eggs. This video was very informative and appreciated. TY

    My girl had the pink urate earlier this year, about 4 weeks ago, then shortly after went from super mellow chilling dragon (normal behavior) to the dragon that was swinging from the roof of her zen habitat AND opened the sliding door and escaped! I have video and all (I’m that creepy dragon mom who has video in the enclosure)! then out of nowhere… BAM! Lethargic. Getting out of her cave in the morning became a 3-4 hour affair. Eating, not happening. Off to the vet..$300 later… she’s follicular. But here’s the thing! The bloodwork showed calcium lower than it should be for a dragon about to lay a clutch! Eggs were not formed yet so maybe they’re going to be reabsorbed. I’m so glad you mentioned being gentle with their bellies. She is extra sensitive when I soak her and HATES having her belly touched now as opposed to her normal self when she does not care. So I’m making slurries with extra calcium (blending live dubias and supers is a whole experience I never ever thought I’d have) and lots of veggies. My dragon is quite the diva so eating from a bowl I’m holding is nothing new. She’s got a dig box in her enclosure but no interest in digging yet. She looks like a blowfish poor thing. Her middle is getting rounder and rounder by the day. This video is by far the most helpful I’ve found. At least I have an approximate timeline for the start to finish of this affair. Thank you!

      Kalyn Woodbury me too :/ this will most likely shorten her lifespan a bit, which kills me, but she’s doing what she feels she needs to do, so I’ve gotta let her. We’ve contemplated spaying her but I’m still not sure I can justify putting her at risk like that. We shall see!

    Ugh! I could've used this video last month! Would've saved me a vet bill! Lol
    My less than a year old beardie went into burmation. I thought she was dying! Rushed into the vet to find out its normal burmation. I'm not ready for spring

    I can't even begin to imagine how worried you were. I'm so glad I don't have to worry about eggs in addition to everything else I worry about with ours. lol My guy is 7 months old and keeps acting like he wants to brumate. I too, have always heard they won't do that this young. He's been to the vet for xrays and bloodwork and they said everything is good, so I am trying not to worry so much and just let him do what he wants to do. I imagine he knows what he needs and nothing I can do to stop it. Good luck with your baby!!

      Oh my gosh, I guess more people have had experience with young brumaters than I thought! Everyone else I'd spoken to said their beardies brumated later! I'm glad I'm not alone lol Hope your guy does well!!

      Lawdddd I feel for you... But you can do it! It's the most anxiety I've ever felt, because that's my literal child, but you get used to it lol What scares me the most about beardies laying eggs is that you never know how many are in there. With the geckos, you can always expect just two at a time, for however many clutches, but beardies produce a different number each time. And Phoebe clearly likes to be an over-achiever!!!

    Mine is currently doing this right now, which brought me to your video, believe I am totally freaking out a little bit, however I do know that mine is well supplemented, she has a healthy appetite, all the eggs are coming out easy wet and bright white, shes up 35 eggs so far. She is infertle as well, never mated but yes she is very hormonal as well. I am happy and relieved to hear that there is others out here. The weight loss and her fat stores is worrying me, so I totally understand what you meant about how rough yours looked. She is all tested, no parasites, well hydrated, and loves her basking spot, shes just a lean mean egg laying machine!

    Same. My beardie lily my stopped moving but was eating 6 months of a upper respiratory infection... then went right into laying ... around her first birthday.... vets never helped I always knew the problem and they wouldn’t listen (the URI) went to 3 different vets 4 visits... finally the last one did a xray.. 🤦‍♀️

    I’m curious if this means that she would be a very good breeder ? Or if it’s way to risky ? ANYWAY that sounds like such a crazy experience. I can only imagine how confused and scared you were.

    Wow! My one year old beard dragon started brumation in march until June, after that she start to eat lots of food. Lately she was crazy, scratching, digging, she stopped eating, I though she was sick. Yesterday when I arrived home, she had 8 eggs around her and she kept laying another 8 eggs until this morning... I had no idea that she was pregnant. I can't wait to go back home this afternoon, maybe she has more surprises for me.
    BTW my baby is super small, it seems she is not growing up!

    So I rescued a bearded dragon doin no research at all and going into this care giver state with no experience. So lately my bearded dragon has been acting weird it’s a female and at first she was kinda of lazy lethargic. Well today she has been what seems to be like she is looking for something what I have no clue like she is tryin to get out her cage. She has dug in one spot to move all the sand I put in the cage in that specific spot. I work and last couple days just really haven’t had the chance to spend with her I normally do so I was cleaning out her cage and she like charged towards me like I was disrupting something. Anyway I found I baby lizard on the carpet and was like how did this get her I was thinking it was from outside it was dead and I flushed the poor thing in the toilet. So today she acting what seems like to be frantic she is digging and looking like she is tryin to get out so some of her droppings I cleaned were white but they where not egg like just thought it was poop. Anyway I feel real bad bcuz she is acting like she is missing something and I feel like it could be them eggs. I never knew this could happen she hasn’t been around any male at least to my knowledge my question how did this happen how did she have a baby bearded dragon and where are the other I dug around the sand and couldn’t find anything. I feel so bad I feel like I did something wrong. I just don’t want her to get depressed. I need help I don’t know how this happen or what im doin I do research but didn’t look into this part of it. I feel so bad like I did something wrong. Omg I need to do way more research

    Thank you for sharing your journey. Very helpful. I have a couple questions, maybe you can help. I’m a first time dragon owner. Our girl is almost a year old. She started digging behaviors so we made her a lay box. First couple times we put her in there, she wanted nothing to do with it. Then the third time she dug a hole and has been in there almost 24 hours. We have suspended a heat light above her. Here are my questions: Should we just leave her alone? And how long will she be in there? And should we keep the heat light or remove it?

    Hi, my beardie laid about 15 two weeks ago, one a few days later and is still pushing to get reaming out. This normal? First timer and I’m afraid I might have ruined the first egg laying session by removing her …..

    • @BBsBeasties
      @BBsBeasties  9 місяців тому +1

      I’m sorry to hear that!! Sometimes they can have one or so leftover but usually don’t take that long to lay them. However, she could have developed more and would need a whole new laying session. I’d take her in for an X-ray and see what you’re working with! Because if she’s struggling, she could be egg-bound, which is never good!

    I wonder if I can fix my dragon because she's 9 years old and I don't think this is healthy. She has never been around a male before. I live in CA and she goes outside every day there is smaller wild lizards but her two clutches were soft and empty cause I used a flashlight to look inside them.

    Female bearded dragons dont lay eggs in the wild without a male the only reason they lay eggs in captivity without a male is because they are being fed to much I just watched a video about it

    • @careybenson939
      @careybenson939 2 місяці тому

      It is uncommon for female bearded dragons to lay infertile clutches in the wild, though it's also pretty rare for them to be observed laying any clutches in the wild. So it could be possible. In captive bearded dragons, obesity can trigger hormonal changes, though it's definitely not the only reason. At times, Infertile clutches can be a symptom of an underlying health or hormonal issue. Sometimes, infertile clutches can happen. I've heard theories that the presence of a male in the female's vicinity can trigger egg production (though not viable) or even just from her detecting hormones from a male (say if you handled a male beardie, his pheromones could be transferred to her from being on your skin, clothing, etc.) It seems plausible after watching/hearing multiple instances of female beardies producing their first clutches at later ages only after their owners got a male or they had been around a new male. My point is that it does not always happen at the owner's fault by overfeeding, improper care, or husbandry.
