    Welcome back, so happy I stumbled on your podcast today. I love your mitts, beanie, and headband projects. I am also very happy to see you are on a sustainability journey. I have been doing this for several years so I look forward to seeing what other yarns are out there for knitting sustainably. My current focus is on a sustainable wardrobe so it's fortuitous that I clicked on your podcast today. Looking forward to tuning in again. Thank you so much.

    Oooh I wish I understood how to change a pattern for the gauge/yarn because I love your choices for the arctic light sweater. It's beautiful in the gauge it was written for of course but I love the thicker, squishier version you're making as well

    So happy to have found you and your channel. I think it’s so rare to find Podcasters that do not use Superwash and think more sustainable. I’m always on the lookout for those! Going to check out your green room! ☺️

    Welcome Welcome. Life is every changing and this is a lovely change and very inspiring and interesting. at the beginning when you were speaking of your wardrobe and gaining a bit of weight that you were trying to give attention to loosing some, I actually stopped the video and stood up and grabbed a flashlight and took a long walk even tho I don't take long walks out when it's dark. I also have gained weight to the point my regular clothing does not fit and it is a challenge each day to try and find something to wear to cover me from my waist down. I don't know what happened really . . . but here i am.
    Thank you for explaining your business outline of the Friday activities / offerings throughout the month etc. This time I wrote them down on the back of my calendar to grasp better the info. It is interesting how some methods of learning information are so unique and helpful to us. and this method I feel like I grasped.
    Oh my stars ! the gorgeous cable and textured sweater you are knitting. Be Still My Heart ! Love it. All of your choices for the next 2 are also just beautiful. Hearing you speak of slowing down, being more selective and utilizing your intentions in a mindful manner really speak to me also.
    Thank you for sharing your gifts and the energy and know how of creating videos you make. Happy weekend. x o

      I have no problems seing things from the instant gratification perspective, but I prefer things to take time because my personal experience has taught me that I appreciate and love the things I create more that way. It's all about mindset and the individual journey💕

    Very excited! I too have been on the path of sustainable knitting and have had a difficult time finding yarn with out chemicals that work for my projects. I had breast cancer last year and am working on a clean me made wardrobe.

      It isn't "the hupe" to promote sustainable yarns yet, but look for Oeko-Tex or GOTS yarn! They've been dyed with non-toxic dyes ♡ I've got more useful info in my free PDF "Knitters Sustainability Guide" - maybe you'd find it interesting! It's interesting to hear your viewpoints. It does matter WHERE people live, as to whether or not they have to wash woolen clothing. It also depends on the person's body, and how it functions. I couldn't imagine leaving my socks outside to air, after hiking in them for 6 hours. It gets darned sweaty down there, as we live in a climate much warmer than yours. Most everything I knit or crochet has to be washed, and putting a wool blanket in my washer, then trying to find somewhere to lay it flat to dry, just isn't going to happen. Cotton is great but finding organically grown cotton that is then sustainably picked, handled, and turned into yarn, well, good luck with that. Almost all cottons end up coming from Indian or Turkey, a long way from the US, so there goes sustainability via the creation of supertankers to carry it across the sea, the fuels to run such vehicles, etc. Yes, we have wool spinners in the US, but if you are a retired person, you'd knit very little, or eat even less, at their cost. People just don't raise sheep and produce wool like they do in Europe. And don't get me started on the allergies to wool lanolin, or even hating the scratchiness. Again, when your temperatures are only at or below freezing for a month or two, and then mostly after you've gone to bed, wool is impractical. So, what's the solution? For me, it's bamboo. It's soft, has great colors, can be purchased from companies that promote sustainability, and it lasts. It's warm enough, especially when combined with a strand of 0 or 1 weight silk. Both will wash on delicate in my machine, and dry at low temp, but I usually hang garments to dry. Blankets are stil going to be acrylic. With a hubby, dog, and three cats, they need washed at least once a season. Socks will need to be washed, and I guess they are small enough I can do without the superwash, wash by hand and let dry. I have decided on a wooden, handmade spinner for my skeins, instead of the plastic Wool Jeannie. I still have to use steel hooks in the smaller diameters, but stick to bamboo and wood for larger knits. We all do our best, and I appreciate all you do to educate people. Even if some of the advice is pretty regional-specific, perhaps your podcast will encourage others to look at how they live, and make small changes. It's a start!🥰😘

      Pure wool is self cleaning, plenty lovely recpurses on that online😊
      And yes, socks needs washing. I always talk from my iwn perspective and will never do anything that that. I talk even more about thimesecthijgs in my audio podcast, also on this channel 🙏🏼

    Hi! I just found your channel and subscribed. I really like your ethos. Just a note about tencel, it is made from trees, but from what I understand (my only qualification is that I took a fabrics course in college), the extraction process is pretty hard on the environment. It uses a lot of harsh chemicals and water. Obviously no fiber is totally free from sustainability issues. I just really appreciate what you’re trying to do and wanted to contribute.

      You are right, byt all human impact is hard on the environment and I'd much rather use materials that in time decompose than materials that do not. It's sort of the lesser of two evils 💚

    • @marjoriegraham9885
      @marjoriegraham9885 11 місяців тому

      Check out all the new processes for the rayon family. Straight up viscose / rayon is a man made cellulose whose manufacturing process is very hard on the environment. Lyocell, Tencel and some of the other rayon processes are closed loop processes that are much more environmentally friendly, not discharging much waste. And the trees/plants they use are very sustainable.
