Before you put up new drywall in the kitchen, You might consider installing smaller windows into the existing window openings. That would allow you to use all of the available wall space for cabinets. If you run the new windows to the top of the available openings, you should be able to easily close off the space beneath the new windows. Also, when ever we do a demo similar to what you are doing, we will back the pickup truck or trailer to the closest window or door to the work area so that we limit the distance we have to carry all that junk.
When you make the window smaller, it means she has to make adjustments to the siding on the outside, which means more cost. Not sure she wants to do that.

Black stuff, most likely tar paper. Used as a moisture barrier. Becareful with the carpet may have asbestos. Keep going your making wonderful progress, roof looks great.
Black stuff in the wall or on the floor? lol she had two black stuffs this video. I would guess the stuff in the wall to be some for of a vapor barrier as it looked like she was in the newer extension part of the house at that point.
This is my new favorite breakfast watching! 🥰 Okay so 17 years ago, I gutted my entire kitchen to the studs and remodeled it myself. The flooring in the house was all hardwood except the kitchen was old linoleum with pine subfloor. I chose to do a pre-finished darker stained hardwood in my kitchen and it was the BEST decision! It held up to our dirty shoes tracking in things from the garden and chickens. I had throw rugs to catch stuff but we were hard on it and it was so comfortable on the feet. Lemme tell ya, TILE IS COLD AND HARD. So if you haven't decided yet on what to do, I would suggest get the same hardwood and do it through the whole house. It will also make it look bigger because the whole house will be the same flooring. We bought ours through Lumber Liquidators and got a medium budget one that we knew was prefinished. It was perfect. I will absolutely do hardwood in my kitchens in the future. BTW, I'm in Missouri so we get some pretty cold winters. The wood floors are just warmer. Obviously, if budget is an issue then maybe just to plywood floors with laminate tiles. That is the cheapest and will still be easier on the feet. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL!!!
❤😊looking good😊I think that black stuff on the floor is the backing off of glue down carpet 😊we used to buy that kind all of the time because you don’t have to lay down padding and carpet strips just glue straight down and the black stuff had a little bit of cushioning to it❤😊I’m glad you got the house too. Seems to have really good bones to work with.
Wow! Tia, describing you with one word, amazing! Your loved ones must be very proud of you. I don't know you, but I'm really glad that UA-cam recommended you to me. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay happy! Everything else is manageable! Pops
Hi, awesome videos! I wanted to share a tip for making drywall cleanup a little easier-I've done a LOT of drywall demo throughout my primary house and 3 others. Get a cheap tarp and lay it on the floor, after you haul the big pieces away, you can carry the aggravating(and seemingly endless) littler pieces and dust out by rolling up the edges and carrying it out to be dumped in the dumpster or wherever the trash goes. Once the tarp gets too ragged after many times of this use, you can roll up the last load it will carry and throw it all away as well.
Midwest Magic Cleaning sent me. 😊 60 year old Grammy here. Watching you reminds me I had energy once upon a time. Do get a Post Office box so we can send you goodies. I have a bit of a strange question. What and when do you eat? Your energy is endless! I know you have some help but my goodness, you are a one woman demo and construction team! I love your motivation and I truly believe that your $1.00 house will be absolutely darling when you are done. Keep going young lady! I'm rooting for you.
This has become my new favorite channel. I live in a 116 year old house in Minneapolis. I have been through all the same mess you're doing now. Took the exterior siding off down to the studs, new windows, doors, soffit, fascia, & of course, siding. In this video, you said your windows are in tough shape, I have two extra NEW Anderson double hung, and I would gladly donate to the cause if needed.
I'm so glad you got the house instead of the fire department. I bet the old owner is over the moon with you taking it on. What a big help he's been. I hope I find out more about the house and owners as I go back into the playlists. BEAUTIFUL job!! Super excited at your progress! Blessings from the great Pacific Northwest!💛🖤💛
If there's 1 electric tool I can recommend for a starter tool it would be an oscillating saw. Can be used in so many different ways and it would pay for itself 100x over
You're definitely not afraid of hard work! Just a suggestion: try and keep all doorways and passages minimum 36 inches. That way you can claim ADA-compliance and maybe get some off of your homeowners insurance. Great work!
Girl I would cut the nails from the floor and the ceiling joists and drop and move the whole walls to change and rearrange the size of your rooms. I did it in mine. Takes a couple people only and you just have to nail it back in place.
Please don't forget to make sure that your foundation is fixed and solid for all types of weather. That's really important so your house will last forever.
TIA STICK RAGS IN ANY OPEN PLUMBING IT WILL STOP SEWER GAS FROM COMING UP AND ANY CRITTERS, YOUR SUCH A HARD WORKER AND BLESSED TO HAVE A GREAT FATHER 🏆🙏✝️🇺🇸♥️
Rags? Rats love using rags/clothes to build nests. Shouldn't have sewer gas with good pipes. Steel wool or wire mesh in cavities to stop pests. Gosh! 🙄
I recently purchased a fixer upper myself. My house is almost 40 years old and it looked like the 1980’s the first time I walked in the door. It’s mostly cosmetic with some minor repairs. Not as extensive as yours but I’m enjoying making it my own with my personal touch. Im doing most of the work myself. I enjoy it. I’m looking forward to seeing what you do with your house.
When she started tearing down that wall framing because it interfered with the demo of the window, I said, "Hell, yea! YOU GO, GIRL!" She is doing this job right!
Tia you have such a calm way of going about this renovation, even with the mammoth amount of hard work ahead - not to mention what you've already achieved.
Love what you’re doing. Will you in the future add air conditioning? What are your plans for insulation? Have you thought about spray foam. The cost is more but you are only going to do this once and your house is small. You might want to insulate some of your interior walls. I did between a bedroom. It really helped with the noise reduction. I give you credit at your age to take on this house. People at your age would not take it on and you will not have any debt like most people! Can’t waited to see your project to evolve.
Tia, your work ethic is something to put in the record books! I wish you were able to upload more often because I so enjoy watching you do what you do. My daughter is almost 36, and there's so much she wants to do to her house, and I have told her over and over again that she should try doing some things herself. But that's not an option for her. She says after working a full time job all week long that she's too darned tired to come home to home repairs/remodeling. I wish I was able to help her, but I am in a wheelchair at the moment, so that's just not an option I guess. Anyway, keep up the fantastic work and we will see you next week.
New double-pane windows would be a great investment. Hoping the window framing isn’t rotted and you can just pop them in. Check-out videos on how to tape & flash properly to prevent water penetration around windows.
🎉you are such a hard worker and a brave soul!! Nothing seems to get you down!!! You made quick work of that roof and now the house is looking great! Would love to see more of pops and the pup!!!Really like your channel!!! Carry on sweetie!!!!❤🎉😊
For the dehydrator ask the Plummer to help it drain into the sewer via the floor with a hose attachment. It looks like mine. There will be a place to attach in the back. Otherwise during curtain times of year it’ll pool so much water will shut off full often. I was so happy to figure this out. Hope this helps. For the canning area look into adding a space for a root cellar. Though it doesn’t have to be a big space. Just dark for storage and maintain the temp for your over winter crops like potatoes, varieties of squash, etc. You can look up how to make one on a shelf wrapped in fabric if room is an issue to building one. That shelf you mentioned and showed was probably for canning supplies. Have one in my vintage property basement from 1900. Plus I’ve seen ones like that being used in other older homes. Adding a freezer in the basement for some food storage you harvest and things you wanna buy bulk to help keep longer … like I buy a 25 pound sack of organic oats I use daily. It goes in the freezer. Except for a container full of in the kitchen. 7 cubic foot top open works for me. You could get one on sale. I’m able to store plenty of summer crop veggies prepped plus canning which takes longer. Plus the organic bulk stuff when it’s on sale. Your fridge/freezer is similar to mine in size. You won’t regret the extra freezer space in the basement. It helps also with some bulk buying from the store if you wanna save time running to the store for everyday food needs or recipes. Hope this is helpful. Enjoying the work. I’m in the process of renovating a vintage property. Your work is inspirational.

Hi Tia, watching from Alberta Canada, That black stuff under the carpet is called Foam underlay, it normally comes in a variety of colors mostly black in older houses. Great job you should be proud of yourself. If you're putting anything down it has to come off, you can scrap it with a sharp flat hoe or you can use a floor sander but that's pretty tricky.
Ok. There's not much more positive, constructive, wise and powerful for a young, beautiful woman to be doing. So many are lost in a vacuous empty existence. So proud of you Tia.
Have you done a floor plan for your house? There are so many advantages such as locations for sockets and bathroom fixtures, etc. Also, lots of walls that may not be needed and bringing them down could make the house look so much larger and more open. If you have one, we would all love to see it.
@@kathywaltman4137 Just make sure they are not load bearing. I am a little concerned about the portion of the wall that was just taken down in the kitchen.....

Very good progress, Miss! I could never understand why my late brother (who was a short, skinny guy) always used huge 32 oz. framing hammers until I helped him during some demo work. Big ass hammers with straight backs make excellent demo tools. Between that and a Wunderbar, there was nothing he couldn't take down/destroy :) I agree with your removing that 'doorway" between the kitchen and bathroom, it is just in the way and looks much better gone. Looking forward to the next video! Much respect and high regards,
I never thought I'd be invested in this after following another house renovation story that turned into total demolition with very little progress over the months... But you're getting stuff done in no time and now I'm invested :DD But this time I just kept staring at the basement entrance... If I were you, I'd put the door by the wall behind (that is the inner wall, not the one which hid the window) and I'd rotate the upper half of the stairs so they go down in an L shape and they line up with the end of the original stairs.
You are making great progress - love the videos. Don't forget to keep track of all the materials, tools, and labor hours you put into this project. If you ever sell the house, it can help with taxes since you will be adding so much to the value of the place over your purchase price.

Was going to say the same thing, that basement doesn't look very solid.
@@julien2912 Rats.
@@julien2912what are you talking about? She has saved lots of old stuff to be reused!
@@empressche333 She threw away an old tub, some old wood, other things in the same video and is letting the previous owner take away too many windows and doors.
You go girl,We bought our "FLIP" home 35 years ago, I been in your shoes, destroying cleaning, remodeling, but OUR flip home, has been our sanctuary through a lot of tough times, and I am proud to say,we our still here, life throws you curves, and I didn't know what to do, But I always knew I had a Home that was all mine!! Peg away girl, you got this 🎉🎉❤❤😂
You work so hard. Your parents must be proud.
Tia, You are an amazing young woman. I love your one dollar home. It has so much potential and you are the one who can make it even better. Honey, enjoy your life. I have always enjoyed DIY projects. Love following each video. Also love your traveling and camping adventures. ❤❤🧰🧰🔨🔨🛠️🪜
Black stuff, most likely tar paper. Used as a moisture barrier. Becareful with the carpet may have asbestos. Keep going your making wonderful progress, roof looks great.
Dimple board!
Black stuff in the wall or on the floor? lol she had two black stuffs this video. I would guess the stuff in the wall to be some for of a vapor barrier as it looked like she was in the newer extension part of the house at that point.
I love your $1- house, outstanding .
Hardwood or Pergo, yes! Definitely not tile!
Progress is awesome. Love that you break your video into days and what has been accomplished in each.
Wow! Tia, describing you with one word, amazing! Your loved ones must be very proud of you. I don't know you, but I'm really glad that UA-cam recommended you to me. You are pleasant, smart, strong, determined, have great manners, are talented, resourceful, independent yet inclusive, and much more. Thank you for sharing your time and experiences.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay happy! Everything else is manageable!

SOMEONE SPONSER THIS CHANNEL THIS IS GREAT !
How about I sponsor your remedial English classes?
@@craigcorson3036 when you speak as well Danish as i speak English you can sponser me
Midwest Magic Cleaning sent me. 😊 60 year old Grammy here. Watching you reminds me I had energy once upon a time. Do get a Post Office box so we can send you goodies. I am a crafter and my specialty is Granny Chic. I would love to send you a little something to decorate with. Thank you for sharing this adventure with us.
You may want to consider getting rid of any basement partition walls and re thinking the whole space. Nice work, you're doing a great job!
We always have a motto when remodeling "take out what isn't a nice house." It is hard but pretty satisfying. Great job Tia.
No-one can truly say that you are not a hard worker, Tia.
When she started tearing down that wall framing because it interfered with the demo of the window, I said, "Hell, yea! YOU GO, GIRL!" She is doing this job right!
Wow Tia you’ve certainly been busy on your $1 house, keep up the amazing work young lady, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Tia you have such a calm way of going about this renovation, even with the mammoth amount of hard work ahead - not to mention what you've already achieved.
Your Dad is an Angel!!!
Luv your dog, so sweet and a cute size, so happy you saved the house, don't work too hard and get sick, remember to pace yourself.
You are such an awesome young lady and so practical I’m sure your folks are so proud of you . I know I am😊
I love this so much! I am single mother of a gorgeous little girl and you inspire me to believe in my abilities to get things done.
New double-pane windows would be a great investment. Hoping the window framing isn’t rotted and you can just pop them in. Check-out videos on how to tape & flash properly to prevent water penetration around windows.
You’re doing a great job. I’m glad you saved the house from being burned down.
Love the series! I’m now officially addicted and will stay to the very end, thank-you!
🎉you are such a hard worker and a brave soul!! Nothing seems to get you down!!! You made quick work of that roof and now the house is looking great! Would love to see more of pops and the pup!!!Really like your channel!!! Carry on sweetie!!!!❤🎉😊
You may want to consider building access to the crawl space especially of it has plumbing in unheated area.
Gorgeous work you are doing there. Really hard making it all by yourself - truly inspiring
I absolutely love your channel. You are THE WOMAN!❤
Boy, Tia you are putting in a lot of hard work! No need for a gym membership, you're getting an excessive full blown work out remodeling this cute house! You've are definitely making great progress! I look forward to Sunday morning waiting for the next video! Have a good week, be careful when working by yourself! Blessings 😊❤
You have such a lovely voice, I could listen to you for hours. Keep up the great work and best wishes from the UK.
Yes she does and it's so soothing to hear her talk.
Next time when tearing down walls put a tarp down so it’s easier to clean up.
You Go Girl!!!!!
You remind me of myself at your age…. Always working hard!!!
I’m so stinking proud of you!!!!!!
@@michaelsnider2484 I believe in a previous video she said the wall she took out was inspected and was NOT load bearing.....she didn't do it on a whim.
Coffee and the $1 House!! Series for the win!! ☕️🏠☕️
I am enjoying this so much! You remind me of my hard working daughter who is trying to redo a property next door to them while raising three wild boys. Can't wait for the plumbing and electrical. Going to be a nice place.
Great job. I love your enthusiasm!!🍁🍁🍁
That insulation could have been asbestos, as old as that house is be careful. I'm so glad you got the house and not the fire department.
looking forward to seeing more. Great job
Sundays are my favorite day.❤going to church and praising my Savior and seeing my church family❤sitting down having my breakfast/ lunch and watching your video♥️ have a blessed week and keep up the great work
Very good progress, Miss! Much respect and high regards,
Drinking my last cup of coffee and this is a inspirational way to start my day, thanks 😊
Love it! ☕️💓
I never thought I'd be invested in this after following another house renovation story that turned into total demolition with very little progress over the months... But you're getting stuff done in no time and now I'm invested :DD
But this time I just kept staring at the basement entrance...
Or just live in the house for at least 2 years and be exempt from capital gains tax.
Hi Tia, I watch Midwest Magic Cleaning he said to come over to your channel. I am a 73 year old grandma and I am very impressed with how hard you work. I also saw where XO MaCenna mentioned to watch your channel I have followed her for several years. Excited to start watching your journey
🍁It’s Looking So Good. I’ve Done Projects Like This For Years And I Can See Beyond The Mess.
It’s Really Coming Together. All Your Hard Work Shows. Have A Wonderful Sunday 🍁
I think it's cool that the previous owner is enjoying your renovation! Looks like things are coming along quite nicely! Can't wait to see what is next!
Love that through all this mess your nails are all polished to perfection! Love too that while you are working so hard there is soft music playing to keep all us viewers relaxed!🤣😂♥♥
having insulated my own basement and garage after a remodel. I highly recommend using the mineral/rock wool insulation. It stays in its shape out of the packaging. You can cut it with a bread knife and it's real easy to cut notches to fit around objects like pipes and outlet boxes.
Ah to be young and energetic……wait I was never that energetic! You are amazing and watching you I am so impressed! Great job you are doing.
It's fascinating to watch you work. I wouldn't know the first thing about tearing down walls and which ones are load bearing. I can hardly wait to see the finished "product"! 😊
Love opening UA-cam to find a new video from you. Fast becoming a Sunday ritual to watch your updates. Best wishes from Cyprus!
You have such a positive attitude to everything you do and I look forward to Sundays {with a coffee of course} waiting for the new updates. Well done Tia 👍😊
Where will the washer and dryer go? Did I miss that? You are awesome.😂
Props to you for undertaking such a challenging project!
Hopefully, with the profits from your other home sale, you'll have enough $$$$ to cover the majority of expenses you'll contend with truly making this old house your new home.
Through all of this enormous effort, it appears that you are on track for making this layout work for your needs and vision.
Keep up the great work and thanks for bringing us along on this journey! 👍
Tia thank you for your videos, I look forward to them all week! Also thank you to the wonderful people in the comments for sharing your knowledge. I have learned and been inspired by you all just as much as I have by Tia (:
If your budget allows I would suggest, if not insulation in each interior wall, sound deadening material be installed.
I've been binge-watching your renovation after Midwest Magic Cleaning recommended you. It's a fantastic journey and you're doing a great job. What a gem you'll be creating. I'm impatient for the next episode.
Loving this series. Congrats on all the work you've gotten done so far.
That little house is about to live its best life and it will be grateful to you.
You are doing a phenomenal job! So very impressed with your hard work.
You’re such a hard worker. Good thing you’re young. Your house will be so amazing.
Try pouring really soapy, very hot water over that stuck flooring
If it’s glued down it will seperate from you4 wood floor ( and do no harm)
I discovered this tip while renovating my first house , pregnant and clumsy I tripped over a hot soapy bucket, ( we were removing wallpaper) cried , until I discover3d the vile green glued down rubber backed carpet was separating in big weird “ bubbles”
Way to go! Thanks for letting us all into your transformation into your $1.00 home. Some homes used r15 felt paper before installing flooring/carpeting. But may also used as a break from disturbing asbestos hidden underneath. Can't wait to see next weeks progression.
You go girl! I am supporting you by buying merch. I love the slogan. It is very enjoyable to watch you work on this house and it would have been tragic if it had been burned down as a practice house for the fire department. Thank goodness you acquired it.
I get so excited when I wake up Sunday mornings knowing a new $1 house/Tia video is coming!!!❤
I have an idea Tia, what about starting a “board” with decor ideas for your cottage, paint colors, tile samples, wood samples, Pinterest is also a great resource…just a thought.
Just found your channel and I am excited to watch your journey! Proud of you and your spirit and determination! Bravo!
