    I think the important TLDR which is important here is that don't buy this game if you're looking for a full scale action RPG and immersing yourself in the open world of SAO or looking for deep character building and progression. Some ppl including myself bought this game with these expectations. This game is a roguelite game and focusing more on combat with ur fav SAO chars using instance based stage maps similar to old pso2. although this game has a couple of big map. The story is also quite nice though the the presentation in the form of stage based map prevent the story from being memorable and engaging.

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  Місяць тому +7

      The thing is, they never promised a full scale open world action RPG and were very explicit about the nature of their game. May I ask where you got that impression from, because I have seen it way too often from other people too in the past couple months. The kind of info really has no basis in reality that it has to be some false rumor mill going out of control.

    man I am absolutely in love with this game I've barely even logged into WoW these past few days because every time I have time to play something I end up just opening SAOFD :D it's incredible imo I know it's a weird comparison, but it feels like playing a better version of Genshin except it's SAO which is awesome just without the open world which is fine and incredibly fun I have not had this much fun playing a game in ages and I haven't even unlocked the other 2 raids
    also I love the outfits I genuinely felt so happy when I read the description of the samurai Kirito outfit and it referenced Code Register in the description XD I love all the artworks from that game and it's been a while since I heard about it and seeing an outfit with A BEAUTIFUL INCREDIBLE ultimate animation designed for it felt so good I pray they keep going strong with the outfits like that because there is SO MANY things they could put in the game from the gacha games they've made before
    thinking about that it's kind of unfortunate that Kirito's Demon King outfit doesn't have a special ultimate, but it's not a big deal ofc
    I'm just actually sad they didn't make Gabriel playable :X and Kirito somehow is incredibly angry at seeing him in the game from the moment he sees him and he is pretty much unbothered by Oberon being around everyone 24/7 idk why my man Gabriel gets all this hate
    PS I know it's a small thing, but I have genuinely experienced almost 0 bugs in the game so far like maybe I get disconnected or something, but from the actual gameplay itself I have not really gotten any bugs ever which is commendable imo XD

      Funnily enough, I never expected one of my main complaints to be a lack of "regular mob variety", that was not on my bingo card. So I guess that's a positive, that other things I was keeping an eye on, did not lead to large issues. For the early periods of a live service that is.

    The game is fun. It's for multiplayer at the core, and this game will last long because:
    1. It's multi-platform (almost all meta platforms supported) , and multi-region (can switch regions on the go).
    2. It's Live Service.

    I'm having a blast! A few fixes needed like bugs related to aid requests - it's not very motivating to be kicked back to the title screen and needing to connect to the game again. Personally I don't think cosmetics should be on the list of "losables" given their rarity. Target locking still needs addressing and the amount of forced character use in the story wasn't particularly appealing after playing Fairy Tail which is very similar in that regard, but it's still a major step up from having to 100% play as Kirito and that's about all I have to complain about.
    I may also prefer if you could get YOUR rank loot from any co-op level as there's little point in aiding earlier missions otherwise. Once you have 1000 weapon's/accessories you don't really want to fill your inventory with more rubbish. (This actually happens from time to time, it looks like a bug.)
    Favourite characters so far:
    LLENN for tele-dash and easily aiming at anything she wants including aerial enemies. One of her advanced skills/ultimate aren't that good though, they look fancy but it's hard to "make it all count" in some instances.
    SIlica is a support who can actually hit hard (charged strong attack) so she gets a lot of mileage.
    Fukaziroh for elemental mastery, AoE and having a heal bullet. ("Help me" is a bonus.)
    Yui for those times I'm content to just keep a happy party. Homing energy balls let her fight fairly carefree but it could do with hitting harder.
    Heathcliff for being able to get in a boss's face without much worry.

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  Місяць тому +1

      In my experience, Aid Request drops completely disregard the level caps on missions. I have been constantly getting on level equipment drops, even from Tier 1 Illfang when I joined it as Aid Request. It's just the Player Rank EXP that will continue to be rewarded low.

    • @KingX
      @KingX Місяць тому

      @@Gamerturk Oh so that's what that was. It's a good system then. What I would like though is a means to check the right element for the level from that screen as I hate accepting requests and not knowing which weapon to use or needing to memorise them all. (I use a handwritten note.)

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  Місяць тому +1

      @@KingX I am not sure whether disregarding the cap is intentional, so do not take that as an answer that will stick forever ^^'
      But yeah, it does require memorization since you cannot quickly check the weaknesses. Although worst case, I'd just recommend opening up a google doc and simply saving there.

    I played 'SAOLR' at AX2023 and I somehow felt the mechanics slightly worse than 'SAOAL'. Such as slow speed when traveling through the open world and the same AI battle commands in single player mode, but with a more overwhelming UI. Although it might be due to lack of play time since I hadn't played since Sinon's AL dlc. But I might actually give this game a chance, it seems fun and it reminds me of 'SAOIF' on mobile in the sense of the few linear paths to reach objectives or loot and not a massive map where I'd get frustrated looking for stuff and wasting hours of playtime like in 'SAOAL' or Elden Ring. I love SAO but I just couldn't really get into the gameverse non-canon stories.

    I'm going through it and so far it is quite underwhelming. To reach the top level of the Battle Pass, you pretty much need to play every day and do every challenge in order to barely get there, but credit is deserved for putting cosmetics early on in the pass. Free Roam is good for grinding certain challenges but it gets old very fast. Boss Raids are much more rewarding than just about any quest, so there's not much of a reason to do anything else. Not being allowed to complete certain challenges through playing the Story Mode is a bad idea, since players might be tempted to only focus on Story and miss out on Multiplayer rewards. Overall I think the story as far as Chapter 3, at least that's because I'm currently there, doesn't do a good job on emphasising the stakes but the character interactions are saving it. The arcade feel to this game is actually what I prefer to how stale the old formulas for the SAO games were, but the live service elements do not do it any favours, and in the Multiplayer aspect Fatal Bullet is still superior. Multiplayer in general doesn't last long for many within SAO games, and I doubt there will be many left after a couple of months from now. I hate being a pessimist about this stuff, especially SAO, but this game is mid and will be always be unless some swift changes are made. They should just make an SAO game that goes back to putting a spotlight on Kirito's development as a character in the style of one of the older God of War games or Devil May Cry games. But they won't. It can be enjoyable but I'm tired of people pretending this is of an acceptable quality after more than 10 years of these games.

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  Місяць тому +4

      > To reach the top level of the Battle Pass, you pretty much need to play every day and do every challenge in order to barely get there
      As I covered in the video, that is very wrong. With all available dailies and weeklies you can easily clear the pass.
      > Free Roam
      I expect changes to Free Room in the next season, or whenever they have additional time to look into it.
      > and in the Multiplayer aspect Fatal Bullet is still superior
      The only thing Fatal Bullet has over FD is PvP. And PvP always ends up a core but very minor community. Maybe FD will get one eventually, but numbers must've told them that it is not a priority. Coop, SAOFD is superior in every way.

    • @jamesdempsey4194
      @jamesdempsey4194 Місяць тому

      @Gamerturk Fair enough. If it really is that easy to clear the entire battle pass then I stand corrected. But locking people out of such content because they didn't have time for it for whatever reason doesn't sit right with me. Waiting another season for improvements to Free Roam better come soon, or the game will die pretty quickly. And yes, the variety of Multiplayer content is good but nothing in the actual MP itself seems worth the grind unless you can tell me what's waiting at the end of it all - and in the midst of several big releases this month including Sparking Zero - this game's got some tough competition in terms of what players dedicate their times to.

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  Місяць тому +2

      @@jamesdempsey4194 My calculation is of course "off" now. 500(750)EXP gets lost per day effectively, but at least the Weeklies do remain up without a time limit, which is the source of 22400EXP by themselves. Considering two missions each week are "Play 15 Coop" and "Play 15 Boss", that's another 6000EXP coupled with them alone.
      The entire pass requires ~43000EXP.
      Dailies grant 500 per day, and can usually be done in about 5 games tops, that's 750EXP per day total with match EXP.
      I am not going to talk about how many games other Weeklies require, as they vary wildly.
      But even with that minimal calculation, we already have over 55000EXP obtainable. Without considering the EXP you'll get just by playing for fun (And the match EXP you'll earn for the Weeklies that I left out due to their variability).
      You can bring your playtime down to about 15 days (out of a 30 (33) day) pass and still naturally end up clearing it all.
      What's waiting at the end of it all, beyond fun gameplay, is currently the Hard Mode Skull Reaper Tempest fight and its cosmetic rewards. Whether people will see that worthwhile or not remains to be seen.

I’ve been playing today and ran a few co op runs and I didn’t get a single human on my team it’s only been AI and there has been a good amount of players in the lobby. I also thought I saw something saying that you can get rid of your penalties by playing the story but I’m not sure.

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  Місяць тому

      You can continually level your characters yes. There is Player Rank which is your account rank that allows higher tier weapon drops and access into higher tiers of content. And then there is Character Rank for all individual characters that as you level up, earn increased stats for characters, unlock their passives to be equippable on other characters, cosmetics and emotes.
      And all weapons and accessories come with up to 4 perks each (you equip 1 weapon and 3 accessories), so a variety of perk combos are available depending on how you want to focus your build. Ideally, you'd have optimized builds for all different elements, however it is a little too early in the lifespan of the game to do so. That horizontal building will likely begin once people start reaching Player Rank 100, as until then, they'll be constantly upgrading their weapons and accessories anyways.

      The queue times are really time dependent, especially on weekdays, particularly due to not having global matchmaking. On evenings, European matchmaking (as a European) is perfectly fine, but during school/work hours or past midnight, it's hard to fill lobbies for anything beyond the early Tier 1 content.
      The good thing is, you can change your matchmaking region. Asia is always full that I'm constantly getting insta-fill 20-player lobbies within 10-20 seconds. But if the ping is becoming a problem for you (if it's 300+), you can always change over to Europe/NA (whichever one you are not in). Daytime US will give you a full European matchmaking with it being evening. Similarly, the other way around, if you are in Europe and play past midnight, switching to NA will give you evening time there.
      I do expect however that most people have switched to Asia and stayed there due to how reliably full it constantly is and are not switching back, which is creating an unfavorable situation for EU and NA servers.

    Please actually go fight the boss when it starts.
    Killing scrubs to increase your dps means nothing other people spend their time pressing console buttons and not hitting stuff.
    Also your teammate bearhughug is at rank 6. Losing to a Silica. So your entire theory of "killing random mobs is better" just falls flat.
    Of course, don't skip every encounter as well. Fight things slightly higher level than you so you actually get decent amount of exp.

    • @Gamerturk
      @Gamerturk  Місяць тому

      This is just terrible advice all around. I would definitely recommend taking out mobs and crystals first on Tier 3 Illfang for example, people especially don't realize how disruptive the crystals are in the heat of the moment, whereas vs Gleam or Storm Griffin, one-two people handling the 2 enemies that spawn and the Lightning Orb above.
      Killing scrubs to increase DPS is vital, especially on tower activation. As long as one person in each party is tagging enemies, it's fine for others to handle the consoles, but if I see all 3 of my teammates on consoles, I will not touch a single console and tag enemies. EXP is not shared across Raid Group, so tagging is a must.
      There can be countless reasons for them to be well below a Silica. First off, every character is capable of decent DPS and every character is capable of terrible DPS, even if you play well. Their character rank, their equipment rank and perks, their awakening level. You can also see bearhughug actually not joining me for the Rank 30 Golden Chest enemies and that one is protected by 3 of those, while the Green Party end up helping me, highly boosting our levels, or rather leaving them low in comparison to us.
      Also, I never said "scour every nook and cranny of the map to reach the boss", Im mainly saying to not skip mobs that are easily in your path, because most people literally ignore everything but the missions to open the portal. Storm Griffin is the biggest culprit where people can regularly enter the boss arena without even unlocking their Ultimate.

      "Which is why I have double the highest damage despite arriving at the boss AFTER one of its health bar is gone."
      So where exactly have you been its first health bar?
      Killing those disruptive crystals is good (and thats in the boss room. It counts as the boss). killing tower enemies is good. But staying too long in map 1 is bad. Around at that mark, you killed two level 6 spiders with the shield skill and barely got any exp. Personally that part once or twice may be fine because they died instantly and you weren't anywhere too important. But if you do that EVERY ENCOUNTER, you will lose time better well spent farming at the crystal tower which gives more exp for little effort (since you just need to tag and someone else can DPS it assuming you can't)
      I'm not saying skip every encounter but actually fighting every encounter is a huge waste of time (you get less exp in the long run). What I'm saying is "get to the important places early", which naturally results in "skip some encounters because you need to be fast."
      And when someone starts the boss, thats pretty much time to stop farming because what little you get on your own really isn't going to help much.
      Also I've seen entire parties not even reach the boss until it was time to get the last hit in.
      Basically. Actually contribute rather than be halfway across the map not doing anything useful.

      @@PuchimonExtreme I was dealing with the golden chest guardians with some members of the green team, which due to not enough participation, took a long time. If more people were participating, we'd dispatch it very quickly, but also, everyone would be high level enough to do damage around my level and we'd very quickly dispatch the Griffin as well. As you can see from the damage rank, everyone else struggled a lot. And Im not even a hardcore, top tier player. The "Skip everything but the mandatory ones" attitude is also making very reasonable farming opportunities into long stretches of wasted time. Gold chest guardians near your path should be absolutely taken, not ignored. The example I gave shows you exactly why.
      I am also not saying "Do not wait for basic enemies to respawn so you can farm them again", there is of course a sweet balance. But "Do not skip encounters on your way" is the best casual advice I can give to people, who may not be willing to listen if its any longer. And yes, I also dont think taking 5 additional seconds to kill some spiders already on my way to be a waste of time.
      And you can be sure that I will not rush to the boss when someone spawns the boss so prematurely that they are barely tickling it. I am not going to lock myself into that room at a time nobody can do proper damage. I'd rather grind an additional 3 minutes outside and shave off 5 minutes from the boss just by my parties effort alone.
      I agree with your last sentiment. Being halfway across the map (the boss room) without any power to even tickle it because you speedran everything is terrible practice. Actually contribute with the encounters a bit and help with gold chests near your path, and then you can burn the boss, rather than being useless in that room for 5 minutes until someone who can actually do damage because they bothered to level a bit has arrived.

      @@Gamerturk Because you dealt with the golden chest guardians, you do not profit from exp gain at towers. So it kind of evens out in terms of exp gain.
      Admittedly gold chest guardians are also never on my path so I can't comment on that. (and its not like they show on the minimap if you are too far to draw everyone in)
      It takes 5 seconds for Heathcliff to kill some lousy spiders despite having AoE. If you are someone lesser in range like Argo it takes 10+ to kill a group (depending on the number). And this is spiders. Some maps give you harpies which is worse. For that exp gain, its criminally inefficient. Which is why my advice is always "rush out and farm outside. Preferably tower."
      You can always spend more time farming tower enemies if you really need more exp, they spawn forever (until you clear it)
      Map 1 sucks.

      @@PuchimonExtreme I did not miss out on any EXP, EXP remains on the field for quite some time. I would have preferred to roll as a team, but the other member straight going for the towers meant I got my EXP dip there as well. Again, ideally, people would turn our little gold chest grind into a 20 second nuke and move on, but even in this case, the people who stay back benefit greatly, whereas those who speedrun just suffer at the towers and then suffer at the boss until we arrive with the actual capability to damage a boss. Not like Griffin Coop allows you to defeat a lot of enemies at the towers, unless you farmed anyways.
      Argo can easily nick out 1 enemy with the Claw Skill and then another with the spinning wheel skill. It's a similar case for other single target characters as well. With a team of 4, single waves really are a trivial factor. A team at worst should be able to clear a wave spawn in about 10 seconds top.
      Sure you can farm the towers. But you need all 5 teams to randomly decide they want to farm. And there is always enough people to rush the towers too. And since it is an objective, it's not even right for me to call it a rush, people are just doing the objective and that causes you to lose out on your farm anyways if you intended to farm there.
      Just play the game as intended, that's it. You don't need these awkward min-maxing attempts that won't work in a team environment if you just don't skip things beforehand.
      Map 1? Sure, I'll give you that. But that only is a problem in Illfang Coop. Every other map is linear where you can easy nab kills and move on, most of which are required anyways to unlock progression doors.
