  • We continue on our backyard blueprinting of our 488 v10 Viper engine. In this episode, we file fit our piston rings for "spirited" driving and install and check our Competition Cams camshaft. I also show how to check the oil pump to timing cover clearance on the Viper engine.

Dude always just looks like he got back from getting groceries or something and decided to build a car. Wild.

Love to see someone using the feeler gauge trick when torquing the rod bolts. Nice build.

It's about 25% worse than rebuilding an LS engine LOL. Get it?

Its a custom grind through comp cams that I had made. It isn't made for max hp at 6000rpm on a dyno, but rather for max hp around 5500 rpm (track use is typically 4500-6200 rpm). Cam card says lobe is 3633intake and 3634 ex. (228/232) and ground on 114 l/c and 4 deg advanced.

@mcgyverdude Hey man, I’m in the middle of doing my Viper rebuild on the same engine. When I dissembled my engine I found a decent amount of slack in the timing chain which made me believe I had a stretched timing chain. Where did you get your timing chain? Only option I’ve found is made by Cloyes timing chains made in China. Mopar stopped making their upgraded version in 2011. I’m stumped right now and don’t want this happening to me again. Any recommendations is really appreciated, you’ve already helped me a ton with your videos! Doing the crank shaft oil mod as we speak

I think my chain was made by sealed power. How many miles? Most vipers don't need a new chain as they rarely rack up the miles. If you've got 70,80, 100K miles then yeah, I'd replace it.
