Beautiful Little " Old School " spotter plane . Same principal as the Fiesler Storch from WW2 . You have to tie them down because a Strong Wind will possibly make them Lift Off . Would make Great " Bush Planes " .
I saw in 1994 how Polish pilot Jerzy Wojnar performed loops on Wilga. It was during the shows during the 5th World Microlight Championships Poznan, Poland.
I wonder what awaits with Draco X. Will it have a scrappy wing. Will mike split the rudder to make it into a speed brake. Will he convert the horizontal stabilizer from fixed to fully trimmable to handle different loads and angles of attack. Will mike send the PT6 out for a new hot section
The Wilga 2000 more specifically. Not the same as the Wilga in this video. The original PZL 104 Wilga is more enjoyable, in my opinion. It flies like it should.
What do you mean beefed up? He used a Wilga 2000 airframe. I don’t care for those Wilgas as much since they didn’t have the radial. These fly wonderfully and they take a lot of abuse very well. Draco is nothing special besides a turbine conversion which was already done a long time ago when the Wilga was being built by PZL.
You'd be surprised. It has a powerful propeller engine, so a lot of torque. It flies at a high angle of attack to get slow, so a lot of P-factor. It also has conventional landing gear, tailwheels are less stable and prone to ground-loop, if you allow lateral g-loads to build up. Also, slow airplanes are not any easier to fly, in fact they can be harder do to Q (dynamic pressure) going down with the square root of speed. Therefore getting a little bit slow causes the aircraft to go from flying solid, to loss of control. Possibly in as little as 2~3 knots difference. Fast airplanes tend to fly deep into the flight envelope and are far from stall or loss of control at all times, except in the flair to land.
@@TheJustinJIt actually really doesn’t have a lot of torque and handles nice and straight when slow. I have the M-14P so I have less prop but turn a faster RPM. It does unfortunately ground loop a bit easier due to the trailing link landing gear but it is overall, very simple and easy to fly and enjoy once you get used to it. It really isn’t more difficult to control than a regular tailwheel airplane besides the trailing link landing gear and the fact that it comes in slow reduces the amount of squirrelyness that it has. It is pretty hard to lose control of the Wilga from my experience until you are about to touch down and then the roll out. Especially when it’s slow, it hasn’t gotten away from me yet so I can’t say that with full confidence. However, it refuses to stall and makes you work for it to stall it properly. The only thing you need to be careful with besides the trailing link gear is really only the fact you need to have power on when landing to not “slam” it into the ground and put stress on the landing gear. It is easy to mange after a few flights.
No, the Draco was based off the Wilga 2000. A more modified version of the Wilga 80. The original Wilga is more enjoyable than Draco will ever be in my opinion.
Draco of course was a highly modified Wilga, having a Pratt PT-6A Turboprop engine. Wingtip extensions. Landing gear fairing fuel tanks. And large alaskan bushwheels. Modern avionics. Among other things.
This is the grandfather of Draco. Draco was originally a PZL 2000. Another variant of this Wilga. This Wilga shown is a 35A with the way it was meant to be.
the look of STOL and nice looking but not really STOL as we know it today . If your take of roll is more than o ft and your landing more than 20... might as well be in a Cessna

I Niemcom i pejsatym.
Piekne.

Reading the comments and find it hard to believe that so few know of this aircraft, it's been around since three 70s
love this aircraft , super cute looks ! ......................and performance , just amazing !
Piękny samolot!!!
I saw one of these at an airshow some years ago. Looked like it was great fun to fly.
Can confirm, they are a lot of fun to fly. They feel very weird the first few times though!
Wilga is a great plane. It was even built abroad in license. Have seen an Indonesia built version in Australia, different engine though.
I saw in 1994 how Polish pilot Jerzy Wojnar performed loops on Wilga. It was during the shows during the 5th World Microlight Championships Poznan, Poland.
Wow must be impressing
Without a doubt, because the structure of the Wilga is not adapted to shooting acrobatics.@@poissonsr71
I have been told that this plane is a 3 seater but look carefully and tell me it is not a 4 seat airplane!

My neighbour across the road has one, flies it off a paddock next to the house, great fun watching it come and go.
die Wilga fasziniert mich immer wieder
this Plane was once "D-EDBM" stationed in Stralsund, Germany (EDBV) 🙂
The PZL 104 is a brilliant little plane for STOL work.
As a note, it's pronounced "Vilga".
whoa, all this time I thought that Mike Paty had designed and built "draco" ; but it was a Wilga all along!
yes !
Mike started with a Wilga and modified it extensively..not much Wilga left in Draco except basic shape.. :)
The Wilga 2000 more specifically. Not the same as the Wilga in this video. The original PZL 104 Wilga is more enjoyable, in my opinion. It flies like it should.
The Sovie(tUSSR) engine
That is why it was beefed up to make the Draco. To bad no one has built another Draco type since the original crashed!

Still there will never be a Draco again!@@wackaircaftmechanic2312
Very cool plane…odd looking but appears to be very agile
It’s so ugly it’s cute! It is decently agile but it is extremely good at slow speeds. The controls remain effective even at 55 mph or so.
Nice job on the camera. Keep up the good work.
thanks 🙂
PZL Wilga
Has to be really easy to fly, with the high wing and low speed.
You'd be surprised.

That's the same modified airframe & wings used for Draco, the best performing Wilga ever.

The prop seems loose, is broken or what...? 😮
it is the shutter speed of the camera if it was loose the plane would be vibrating

Useful utility aircraft. Can be used for spraying duties as well as a glider tug. Shame about the high fuel burn.
Two aircraft using one engine demands excess power. Excess power uses too much fuel.
YounisCsiuonAQDVcGGHHHHDU
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣idiota 🤣
cool plane looks like the draco
it is a similar plane but with piston engine instead of turboprop
Draco of course was a highly modified Wilga, having a Pratt PT-6A Turboprop engine. Wingtip extensions. Landing gear fairing fuel tanks. And large alaskan bushwheels. Modern avionics. Among other things.
Looks like Draco
yes it is the same model without the modification :)
This is the grandfather of Draco. Draco was originally a PZL 2000. Another variant of this Wilga.

But can probably carry a useful load.
Yes but it is far bigger than the STOL competition aircraft and will handle rougher terrain than the smaller Super Cubs and PA-22s.
