  • 1973 was a big year for AMC. They had 1.7 billion dollars in sales and 86 million dollars in Net Earnings. They represented 3.3% of the USA car market and sold about 320,000 cars for the model year. This commercial features the Buyer Protection Plan plus, it's full line of cars, the Gremlin, Hornet, Javelin, Matador and Ambassador. If you look close at the Javelin, you'll see it's the rare Pierre Cardin Designer car with it's multicolored seats. Bert Freed is the truck driver in this commercial

    Notice the ambassador has the red 401 engine emblem! That's the top AMC engine option of the time.

      They didn't go out of business, they didn't go bankrupt or anything, they were merged/acquired by Chrysler and some of the employees and factories are still turning out vehicles. Brampton Ontario is where they build Dodge Challengers and Chrysler 300's. That factory is was AMC most recent build Factory in the early 1980, one of the most modern at the time. AMC other division, Jeep is FCA's best selling brand of vehicle. They live on in spirit sort of speak. Chrysler wouldn't have survived if they hadn't acquired AMC. AMC cars were way more advanced and modern by the end of the 80's than anything Chrysler was building.

    Alcoholics Making Cars... as my ex-brother-in-law would succinctly call AMC products(He worked as a painter at the Kenosha plant in the 1970s).

      AMC y su filial VAM en Mexico eran duraderos y confortables. Ojala hubieran sacado aqui tambien un motor 4 cilindros, no solo su magnifico 6. El Javelin solia humillar Mustangs, Super Bees y Malibus Rallies.

    It's unfortunate that more people didn't have the kind of high regard for AMC vehicles in the 60s/70s/80s that they seem to have today.
    They were victims of "Big Three"' tunnel vision.

      Bert Freed isn't doing the voice work here, Freed is the Character Actor and is a driver of the truck and vehicles, the silver haired guy.

    Very good commercial, I mean , original; is a mess that AMC has gone into banckruptcy, back in 1987.

    • @OsbornTramain
      @OsbornTramain  3 роки тому +4

      AMC never went in to bankruptcy. No Investor, shareholder, bond holder or vender lost money on AMC. AMC never closed it's doors, never stopped production, never fired or laid off their employees. Renault sold it's 46% interest stake in AMC for 1.5 billion dollars and made a profit. AMC was fully capitalized all thru the 1980's and build new factories and designed new Jeeps and Cars. Chrysler bought AMC because it was a profitable and successful company. AMC was slower than Ford, GM and Chrysler to get to profitability in the 80s when the USA economy hit a snag, but AMC was a financial performer in a very positive way because they owned Jeep. AMC Sales every year in the 1980's increased, not decreased due to the success of Jeep Corporation, a 100% wholly owned subsidiary of AMC. AMC was never ever short of capital or funds after they signed an alliance with Renault in 1979

    Ironic that both AMC and Mack ended up being owned by Renault.

    • @OsbornTramain
      @OsbornTramain  4 роки тому +6

      AMC was never owned by Renault. They formed an Alliance and Renault did take a large stake in the company, 46%, but they never owned controlling interest over 50%, it was traded on the NYSE and publicly owned. Chrysler acquired all the shares of stock, first securing Renault's interest (part I, March of 1987) and then making a public offering to buy the other 54% of the outstanding stock finalizing that purchase in January of 1988.

    When cars looked like works of rolling art. Not like today's gum drop spit out on wheels rolling down the highway!
