- Foster Care And Adoption | This Is Crazy
Our new daughter has had a major growth spurt! She has gone up 3 shoe sizes and grown out of all her clothes. It's time to get her some new ones and do a closet clean out. They grow so fast. We discuss whether it is normal in foster care or with an adoption placement to grow this much!

I love that Arwen already is able to say "I don't like the texture of that..." Awesome that she recognizes that and articulates it so well. Also, her awareness of what is appropriate for school. So fun to watch!
Hello❤
I think artificial fabrics are often not as comfortable as natural fibres eg cotton.
"Love you grandma" I just almost cried... Love it
I just wanted to say Arwen has good taste. Sh knows what she likes and textures are important to her. She also knows what isn't appropriate for school. Kudos to you Arwen. You made some good choices. 😊
Loved today's video. Loved the way you handled the question re the 6yr old that was being fostered. I think you helped that mother quite a bit. Kudos 😊emencely
Arwen has really blossomed ! She’s so smart, knows what’s appropriate and knows what she likes. I love how Arwen has become such a big help at home too she loves helping. I think she picked out some really cute clothes. 😊
ARWEN. LEARN. TO. SPELL IT.
@@BookishlyAmberdon’t be a jerk. Grow up.
@@LeahFairfield I’m not being a “jerk”. It’s disrespectful to repeatedly spell someone’s name wrong. I don’t need to “grow up” either.
Seems they edited their comment soooo.
@@BookishlyAmber people don’t always know how to spell a persons name. We get it, your life sucks causing you to lash out. Go see a therapist about that.
Old navy has great clothes for long legged kids, I was so happy when they opened both my boys have super long legs & they had tiny waist
Arwen has changed so much in a short period of time. She has matured physically and mentally
I had AWFUL sensory issues with clothing until I was 18. An irritating issue is truly the worst! If she doesn’t like jeans (or jean material in general) try jeggings!
Oh my god I feel this, but as a kid! i could not have seams on my socks or I would throw a fit, I wore mostly boys basketball shorts because I was so picky about jeans and comfort, if I found one pair of pants that I felt were comfortable, I would wear them almost every day that week, I bought sneakers 3ish sizes too big because I couldn’t stand when my toe hit the top when walking or running, and those shoes had to be basketball sneakers, etc.
I am a millennial, so we had those pointy shrunken up shirts that u did not even know were shirts until you stretched up the fabric and I could NEVER wear those due to the texture
@@katie.e.g. omg!!! I totally forgot about the seams on my socks. I used to CRY before elementary school over it.I wore them INSIDE out for 20 years! I just grew out of it!!!
My daughter is like this. Did you grow out of it?
@@756NicholsHi! I may not be the original commenter but I wanted to give u a reply, as a kid I also had horrible sensory issues, I’m now 19 and certain textures still bother me, if your daughter has texture issues with jeans I say to try baggy jeans (they wouldn’t constantly rub on her legs so she can feel comfy) or try soft material jeans :)
I expect stress can also play a part in preventing or slowing down growth and then when their in a safe stress free environment they can have a growth spurt.
Same for my youngest growing up. Walmart and Target used to have elastic inside the jeans with buttons to tighten inside the waistline. WE absolutely LOVED that someone invented that!
Old Navy is an affordable place for kids too. Arwin needs bottoms that have the waist you can adjust. Children's Place has that in almost all their bottoms.
My kids and I all have auditory processing disorder. So textures are a big thing in our house. I'm glad that Arwin knows what makes her comfortable and what doesn't. AND that you listen to her. Many parents just forced their children to wear what they want them to wear and not what is comfortable. Force them to eat what they want to and not something that feels comfortable for them to eat. And so on. Many people don't understand how hard it is to not like certain textures. Including food, clothes or even noise. And forcing them to wear or eat things they don't like potentially makes it worse. ❤
I so agree! My youngest son who is now 29 years old. There are certain clothing and food textures that he just can't deal with. I have to say it has gotten better over the years, but it's still there.
what does auditory processing have to do with textures?
Love your sensitivity with the kids’ various needs and backgrounds. Trauma definitely affects behaviors, and it’s great to have loving caregivers who so intentionally meet kids right where they are and address those needs. I love you and your kiddos so much! 💗😊💗
I understand textures on clothing. Its good she knows how to articulate that already and I am so glad you listen to her. 💜
Arwen reminds me so much of my daughter. My daughter is almost 16 and textures are still huge for her. Also, she is just now able to buy jeans that don’t have adjustable waistbands.
I think I grew out of my texture issues around 8th grade… it’s stressful!
I adopted my oldest son. His brother was six months younger. My oldest was "given" away to another couple who were alcoholics. His bio mother left him in a shopping cart outside their home and he received second and third degree sunburns. Anyways when I adopted him food was a major trigger. He would eat till he made himself sick. He would get up during the night and raid the refrigerator. One night he actually dumped a whole pot of chili over his head. It took several years for him to know food would and always be there. He was never a picky eater. He was an adventurous eater. As time went on and my two oldest grew up people thought they were Irish twins.
I have a saying about my children. Especially when people would have something negative to say. My boys were perfectly perfect for me. They are all four in their Heavenly home now. I am just a sad lonely momma.
I am so sorry for your losses ❤ you seem like such a wonderful mom
I am also so sorry for your loss of your 4 wonderful children 😥 I can’t even begin to know the pain and heartbreak that you have endured. But it must be some solace to know that you gave the 4 of them so much love and a stable home during the time they were with you ❤ My thoughts and prayers are with you 🙏🙏🙏💝💝💝
Sending love to you 🙏
@@haleytherunner Thank you,I tried. My boys were my world.
@@nancyconca9892 Thank you for your kind words. I have tremendous guilt. I am alive.
Aww Scarlett helping Arwen was so sweet.
Also, I love that you take into consideration that Arwen has sensory issues with textures of clothes. My son is autistic and he is the same way.
Advise: school clothes, play clothes, church clothes, special occasions. leave them separate. It works for value, price, name brand and favorite clothes. even capturing the memories and photo outfits you keep and store.
The Childrens Place has jeans that are usually long enough and have a part in the waist you can adjust.
That's my to go place to buy for my nieces and nephews.
I worked at a local Children's Place for years. My kids are up in their clothes and now the grandkids. I just miss the discount. Lol
Building own home = Find land with a home on it, even if small home, and knock it down. Having the utilities already pulled from the street to the house will save you tens of thousands of dollars! It’s a great property hack!
This exactly. When property is scarce, build a home to suit in a great location that already has an older home on it. A complete tear down. There may be areas that are hot for redevelopment (ie. a neighborhood of older homes on big lots where properties are already starting to be rebuilt.) We love our custom built home that suits our specific needs. And the process was less painful than I expected.
I appreciate her speaking up about her texture issue. My daughter and I have sensory processing disorder and can’t handle a lot of textures ❤
You two are such special people. I applaud you for all the loving care you give to children!❤️
Don’t know if this will help someone else, but my adopted kiddo was diagnosed with adhd from a young age, but medicine never worked great and her mental health was really getting to be a challenge. We finally found out that she has bipolar, with a family history of it too. In some cases, stimulants can make bipolar A LOT worse. The Dr who first diagnosed it said that “they don’t look for zebras in a field of horses” meaning that bipolar is so much more rare than ADHD, they didn’t even know to look for it.
Biopolar isn’t that rare . A lot of people have it. It’s harder to detect it, in young children.
I wish I would have never been adopted by the family I had. They are/were toxic and I never belonged. You are honoring children so well. ♥️
Same here
Just know you do belong and I'm sending you hugs filled with positivity, love and smiles! ❤
😢 I am so sorry....yes there are adoptions that are not a good fit....
I am so sorry you feel that way hun. I hope you find your happiness in some way shape or form!!❤️🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦❤️
That's because it was never about you. It was always about fulfilling their own desires and making them look good in societies eyes. 😒
Yall are absoutely amazing, and bothe the patience of gold.😊! Love you and especially your patience with Aurora when she interrupts you etc.
awrin is so good at explaining what she likes and doesn't like with the textures of materials. That takes skill to be able to find clothes that are stylish and make you feel good.
Crystal, take Arwun too the mall and find size 0 and size 1 junior. They are longer in legs and small in waist
I love Crystal’s advice on foster care and adoption. You should definitely do more videos.
I love you, Gramma. The most fabulous 4 words ever.
I know….Scarlet is such a sweet kid.
Great outfit choices Arwen. How sweet was Scarlett helping Arwen put them away. Blessings.
I have my first foster placement, he's been with us since Jan. He is 6 and barely fits in a 4/5 XS. I have been doing everything I can to get him to grow and gain weight and it hasn't happened yet! 🤞 He hits a growth spurt soon!
Aww! Right when I read this I realized they were answering your question in the video at around 11:30! Now that he’s planted in a safe space, he’ll definitely grow 🖤
Arwen is such a sweet girl and it is wonderful that she is able to articulate what she wants and doesn’t want in both style and textures 👏🏻🤩 It is also wonderful for her that you listen to her and respect her feelings 👍😍 You are all so lucky to have the family that you do 🤩😍 Crystal and Aaron you are such wonderful loving parents to all of your children 🙏👍❤❤❤
I'm really glad you mentioned the behavior behind the behavior. I have ADHD. As a child mind you it was the 80's, but my mom struggled to figure it out. As an adult it still remains difficult. Almost 50 and I'm just so glad you guys are on top of what's needed for your children. They will be absolutely OK with your love, patience and understanding. I only wish my parents had what is now understood and available.
My son has issues with clothes too. And he has longer legs and no waist! He will only wear joggers and shorts. And soft t-shirts and hoodies. He hates socks! Bathing suits are an issue. Socks with no lines. I am sensitive to tags in my clothes and lines in my socks!
It is great to hear Arwin advocate for herself! She has come a long way..
I cant wait for Arwens adoption so we can actually see and get to know her better! Much love from Wilsonville Oregon
It was interesting to get some more details about Arwen's growth and tips for fosterparents.
I liked Aaron's imput about the lack of genetic or morphological background of the family of fosterkids.
Happy for Arwen to have nice outfits.
Thanks for sharing.
Sidenote: the captions foster and adoption had me puzzled. Thought there were problems with the date etc.
Old navy is the best for the long leg kids that’s where I got all my daughters jeans sometimes they even have buttons to fix waist but they have long jeans
I have to laugh at Aura doing the loser dance 🤣 I’m a cafeteria aide and work in an elementary school. When I catch them doing that I tell them it’s L for love. Their faces are priceless and they stop. Love your family ❤️
Very good! Nice shopping expedition for Arwen in particular - and much wisdom about bringing up foster children.
My daughter was the same with pants. She is so petite but has long legs. Jeans and pants with adjustable waistbands were our go to!
Great information on adhd how to handle the situation's! Thank you!!
Wow, I can't believe how much Arwen has grown. We are going through the same thing with my granddaughter. We bought her clothes that were a bit big for her a few months ago. She is totally out of them now, so going to take her shopping this weekend. For long pants for Arwen, look for the ones that have the buttons on the sides to take them in. That's what we have to get for my granddaughter.
Crazy Pieces time!! I love it the videos.. love you all ❤❤❤
arwen has come a long way from when she first came into her forever home she has gotten so tall she is the best at helping her siblings when they are sad and she is a huge help at home she did an amazing job picking out her outfits can't wait to officially meet her and get to know her more and see her face and know what her name will be she has the best parents and siblings in the world
When my oldest came to live with us she wore a 5 in kids or a 7 in womens shoes in less than I year she was a 8 1/2 she skipped nine and went to 10 then to size 11 in womens 😢 she is also taller than I am her sister on the other hand is Itty bitty she is 4 ft 10 and wears a 6 in shoes. The have the same mom but diffrent dad's watching my oldest grow makes me feel so short lol I am blessed we get the chance to raise our beauties
You and Aron are such Amazing parents ❤
**please consider washing new clothes before they are worn** sometimes they are saturated in dyes, or other chemicals.
Think of where all that material has been and the manufacturer of the clothes where it came from and all the filth that is actually on them. You would think they would be clean but they really are not.
I feel like that would really help with texture issues as well
That should be the choice of the person actually wearing the clothing.
Hairspray is really good at removing marker and ink from clothing. Also googone is really good for removing makeup from clothing as well as grease splatters. I used to manage a laundry mat and picked up ideas for removing stains
The more things a child has gone through gives them aces (adverse childhood experiences) the more aces a child has the more difficult it is for the child to
Hello crazy pieces thank you so so much for sharing this amazing video I always appreciate you and your family and videos and the time and effort you put in your videos Arwin truly has blossomed so much you are amazing and again thank you for sharing your lives ❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love your guys channels thank you for making my day like every day thank for always smiles .I love you guys❤
I liked that you suggested the longer shorts❤
You are awesome parents. I love your technique
Love your style, it's like a burst of creativity in every video!
good luck at the cheer choice awards safe travels we are rooting for u and crazy middles to win much love from albuquerque and santa fe new mexico on the rails watching this thanks for keeping us up to date when u can crystal u and your family rocks and much love from the extreme railfan redwood empire corp
I wish this vlog existed when i was raising my son. He is 25 and was diagnosed with ADHD in kindergarten/1st grade. I struggled a LOT raising him and he embodies everything you mentioned. Your suggestions are on point and would have come in handy. He has a new son now and, though i hope he doesn't , his son is likely to develop ADHD (because both parents have it). I will definately implement your suggestions as a grandparent and will pass them along to my son and his partner. Thanks!❤❤❤
That’s very true about autism. I am a budding therapist and did read over the last few months, so recently, that c-ptsd and autism symptoms are very similar.
Lolol !! ARWIN IS A REAL VIBE. She is everything. I just adore her . 🤩😎
You are such amazing people ❤❤❤❤
Hope everyone is having a awesome day!
Hope you are too
You too!
I am a texture girl, too. Everything looks great Arwen.
Always watching from the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 so happy that Arwen is growing up so well.
My mother and I peeked with our height at 11, people would say, "your going to be tall!" but we didn't grow again, after 11yrs, we also became woman at 11-12. Boy's go through there last growth spurt around 26 (22-30) some are a bit earlier, some later.
My mum thought that would happen to me. I was 5ft 3 at age 11 i’m now 5ft 11. I guess it really just depends on the child
Fun Scarlett visiting
Love it she knows whats ok and not for school some kids dont care just like things and wear
I love this! Would you consider doing a channel focused on tips for foster care, trauma, behavioral problems, socialization, communication skills, experience for positive discipline, etc? Even if it were only once a month, it would be so helpful. Just thought I'd put the thought out there . . . 💗
Thank you to Aaron and Crystal for opening your every day life with us in a vlog and for showing what good parents look like that you love each and every 1 of kids it means so much that you do what you do
arwin rinds me of baby lizzy and lacey
from crazy middles ! so bubbly and sweet!
I love that Arwen has blossomed . I hope that very soon you will have her adoption date .
Yes, kids grow so fast
Arwen is such a sweet soul. I can’t wait until her adoption is final so we can see her face. She is for sure going to be tall with those long legs- maybe a future basketball star! Love that she knows the fabric she likes and that makes her skin feel comfortable. The girls are a good fit to play together.
Awwww, Scarlett, I love you. Grandma was so cute
Scarlett is such a mini Melinda 🥹 such a cutie ❤❤
Love You Guys.
I’m with Savannah I love stitch!!!
Coming from a girl that has always been tall now 6’. Maurice’s has the best selection in jeans because they have longs!
I just want to say awesome job arwin on stating how the you don't like the texture of diffrent clothes and socks.
I was adopted at 16 years old and am so thankful for my foster family that was able to adopt my sister and 2 younger brothers and I. They were our foster parents for 3 years before they became our forever family.
Also Aaron my son is 11 and already 5'2 and a half. He's got long legs but is smaller waist and right now he is in a size 18 boys for length but his waist is only around a 12 boys. I think he's going go have issues with finding pants when he is older. He doesn't like buttons or certain textures either
I cant take how adorable Arwen an Aurora are it makes my heart want to burst
Crystal I like how you explain on fostering and your right I’d think kids have too grow trust in parents,
Arwin is cute really all your kids are cute
I’m surprised thou on how fast she calls you mom and Arron dad
Love it also love how everyone is so close too each other
Cute. I love her style of clothes ❤. I can’t wait to see her face soon. Love her voice
Love and Logic for all behaviors.
Love y’all, y’all are amazing, give everybody a hugs for me .
Try Old Navy for Arwen’s pants! They have built in waist band adjusters on the inside of waist band. They’re great for long lean kiddos!
Psst... from one Mom to another, Arwin needs a bra or spandex tank tops to wear under her shirt. My daughter developed early too. She needed deodorant at age ten!
I was going to say the same thing. Most definitely!
I hope this comment is seen!
Yes, noticed that. Hope Crystal sees this.
I have a daughter Arwens age and she has been wearing training bras for over a year. Great advice. ❤
She commented on a post fauther up that they did get her some but didn’t film it
I struggled with behavior issues at home almost everyday like ADHD. When I was 16, I was Diagnosed with Autism a week before my 17th birthday
You guys are so knowledgeable it's just amazing thank you for giving us advice
Love you guys HERVEY BAY QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA
Yay cool half video half q&a
I am just like Arwin when it comes to textures. I can't stand anything itchy next to my skin, and the older I get the more sensitive I become.
I wonder if tags on her shirts by the back of her neck bother her too? Drives me crazy. lol
They have cute little bra's/teenies shirts for young girls now. She may want to get a few of those two. I see her being a little self conscious in this video, I remember those days.
Kohls is great for jeans too
Omg aurora talks so good now 💜🥹
arwin is doing great , i must admit when she was shopping and she was spoke about textures , my first thought was i wonder if shes autistic , not saying she is but she reminds me so much of my sarah in behaviour , she has severe epilepsy , autistic and global development delay but shes so happy
I’m autistic and am very sensitive to clothing (seams, tags, clothing). It’s a common sensory sensitivity but could be present in other diagnoses as well.
People can have sensory processing disorder stand alone or in conjunction with ASD.
@@jessicashlager7193 exactly
I used to have to wear boy's jeans because I had no hips at Arwen's age. You might need to see if she can find some cute jeans in the boy's section. You can always add patches and designs to them.
I enjoy your new vlog today
JCPenney has talls for girls and women. My daughter and I are both long-legged and I have to buy talls. Some Walmarts do carry some jeans that are in talls.
It's amazing how much a child can thrive and grow under a loving roof with a loving family such as yours you and Aaron are amazing parents
Yes new house
I had the same trouble with pants. For my son, when he was younger, cause he had long legs and he was skinnier in the waist. Look for pants. that have adjustable waist What they do is they put a button inside with a piece of elastic that you can pull out and it buttons onto the button so you can tighten the waist. Back in the day, the best place for me to find them was children's place A store in the mall, but I don't even know if they exist any more.
I was adopted in 1956 ans it was the worst. They were rich and old enough to be my grand parents. It was done for prestige . I would have loved to have a family like yours full of love.
I have the same issue with pants and my mom will take them in a little bit where you fold part of the side and then you sew it so that they will fit and then you can just use a seam ripper to take them out if you ever gain a little late they fit
Try old navy for Arwyn. They have a great selection and have longer options for pants for long legged kiddos.
