One of my favourite ever races! The ride by McCoy, the tenacity of Syncronised and the celebration of a legend in Kauto Star! That's why Cheltenham's so great!
probably one of the best GC's i seen ever. synchronised never looked like doing much until literally the last bit. he never looked in contention. i had money on him each way and at 1 point doubted id even get a place. amazing victory by a great horse and great jockey. i cried when i heard he had died. still brings a tear to my eye watching this. RIP synchronised :'(
James 84 same, I thought it was an open gold cup so back it as the only horse would keep running when the other ls cried enough, they shouldn’t have ran him in the grand national because looking at how the gold cup was run the following year he would have definitely won that considering it was on soft ground and they all finished so tired
Thanks for posting! Heard it on radio but couldn't wait to get home to watch. Well done Kauto Star - brave try - very emotional, have never heard applause for a horse being pulled up before. Congratulations AP - the one and only!!
I get a lump in my throat watching Kauto at the beginning of this race. I did not want him to run and am so glad Ruby pulled him up, if something had happened to him it would be a total disgrace for racing. Love you Kauto. xx
Backed this, probably my favourite race, unbelievable ride, like others have said had no right to win, but Synchronised served it up to them, pure heart. RIP Synchronised.
I was on him this day a good result. I did him in the grand national a few weeks later. That day I was again had a bet on him. So sad because he was killed in the race. Tony McCoy gave him a brilliant ride in the gold cup that day one of the best finishes in years.
I don't know how to watch this race. I repeated it over and over on the day, crying my eyes out for Kauto. He was applauded as pulled up, some jockey's looked around to watch him go. I sobbed because he still looked so proud and I cried thinking he may never race again. I didn't even want to look at Synchronised, he shouldn't have won Kauto's race but after the Grand National... I was heartbroken for him and his connections. So I've not watched this race since, and don't know if I ever will.
So sad he died less than a month later. You can question the decision to run him in it but even watching this he looks more of a National horse than a Gold Cup horse. It must also be remembered that he was fine after he fell, he injured himself several fences later when running along of his own accord. It's just a very unfortunate accident.
THAT is what they are referring to when they say "it's a horse race"! What a run by Syncronised! Super show! Cheers to a hero, Kauto Star. So glad he was able to go out a Star without losing his dignity or being injured. Good call by the jockey and owner.
I don't know what else to say about AP - I have made more money on him than any other jockey - did the business for me today again - what a jockey, what a treasure!
Could watch this all day, then most of the night, another great battling result from Synchronised & AP (maybe even better than Chepstow Jan 11!) Just wish they get the deserved recognition rather than all the rubbish that's been flying about
RIP Synchronised (killed in Grand National in the same year) and Kauto Star (died of a paddock accident after being pulled up here in this race and enjoyed a severel-year-long retirement).
I agree. If you watch the 2012 National in which he was killed. He skewed his back really bad at Beechers Brook where he fell. Al though he didnt break his leg in the fall. He broke it while running free.....
He shouldn’t have even run that race, having galloped a mile after unseating AP pre race, the horse was not right and I doubt he would have got round anyway
ap unbelievable never gives up on a horse when others do . 4000 tony u deserve every one ,look forward to next 4000, top top top man tough as fuck, legend legend
You can win all the Champion Hurdles you want on board rocket ships Ruby, but it’s performances like this that will always stand AP out as the greatest to ever saddle up.
I was delighted for McCoy. The greatest champion of all is an accurate description and he has been frustrated time and again at the festival. A second Gold Cup on his CV is right and proper and didn't he earn it? For those saying it was a poor Gold Cup the issue is irrelevant. The Gold Cup is one of those events in sport that are all about winning. If you win you are a champion.
Was saddened by Kauto pulling up but it was the right thing to do, hope connections decide this summer that he'd run his last race. Also stuck a couple of pounds on Synchronised (as well as Kauto), fancied him as he'd won a Welsh National & Midlands National (trips longer distanced than the Gold Cup) so he had plenty of stamina though his jumping was my only concern, but great ride by the champ AP McCoy.
Perhaps he didn't fade but was passed by some great horses, thanks for the update on the prices. It does look a great race this year an with it just a week a way I can't wait!
I was working there from tuesday to friday, On the 4th race i put all my tip money i had gotten from the previous 3 days (£120) on syncronised to win. i won £960!!! was so happy, dont no anything about horse racing either lol
That horse never looked like winning till the very end. Was getting boxed in and McCoy switched him to the outside. Great riding by jockey and sheer will to win of that horse is amazing. Shame he lost his life at Aintree
McCoy was suited to horses like this .. Wichita lineman and brave inca were 2 others . I would personally not have him in my top 5 jockeys but still the ultimate professional ❤
Well done connections of Synchronised. We may well see the last of Kauto Star on a British track. Time will tell. Long Run could not defend the title which really sums up this four day meet. The Giant Bolster ran a cracking race and nearly a Norton's Coin moment from 1990.
Wow! I watched this without knowing anything about the horses or the riders. Just looking for some quarantine entertainment! At the beginning I randomly picked a horse to win that I would find out during the race was Synchronized. So I followed his trip during the race and assumed that I had no chance. Was encouraged when he came up and got in the final group of seven or so, but then he appeared to tail off. That last stretch was incredible as he looked for openings and then finally exploded over the last jump and won going away! Incredible ride!
that horse couldn't jump his own shadow smoothly, Long Run winged 4th last and 3rd last, jumping is no excuse, the jockey made all the difference, McCoy is unreal
Completely agree with you, some people are idiots. Synchronized was a brilliant horse and had a brilliant jockey. AP isn't 17 times champion jockey for nothing!
There is no-one to blame here the horse died doing what it wanted it could have refused to race or stopped but even after it fell at Becher's it carried on jumping by itself and fell again at the 11th and that's what killed him. A beautiful and talented horse died doing what he loved, a well deserved R.I.P there rest well old friend.
No matter what anyone says, this wasn't the best of Gold Cups by a long way. Saying that, The Giant Bolster ran a massive race and would have been a lot closer to Synchronised had he not got in very tight to the last. Synchronised took about 2-3 lengths out of him there. I was also impressed with Time For Rupert, who ran very well to finish 5th and must have felt great down the hill and off the bend to Denis O'Regan, who had a few looks between his legs! He may be closer again next year.
Wish people would stop harping on about what a 'bad' gold cup this was, just enjoy the horse that won it! Synchronised isn't a bad horse ad neither are the one's he beat, they can't all be kautos and Denmans. It was a vintage ride by McCoy and he andSync won be 72 quid :) and I really think Kauto should be retired now, he doesn't owe anyone anything and there's only so much you can ask of a horse...I'm sure connections will do what is right for him though
Absolutely. THAT VET has blood on his hands. How dare he start Synchronised. I am so upset about this. I was so shocked when I read he died in the race. I feel so miserable about this.
I understand it's all good. The fact I won't see this truley magnificient horse again both saddens and sickens me. It was a death sentance running him in the Grand National. R.I.P Synchronised.
It was a great ride by AP synchronized never looked like winning until the very end of the race but i think greed took over from the trainer and the owner , he won the gold cup and that should have been enough but no they wanted more and put him in the grand national where he fell and had to be put down ,,,,,,,,, RIP SYNCHRONIZED 😂😂😂😂😂
Heart said yes, but head said no for a couple of weeks (even after watching re-runs of the Welsh National & Lexus!) then heart took over about 30 seconds before the off - happy days!!
One of the finest rides you'll ever witness
FACT!
By the greatest national hunt jockey ever!!!!
It’s not a fact. Mug
One of my favourite ever races! The ride by McCoy, the tenacity of Syncronised and the celebration of a legend in Kauto Star! That's why Cheltenham's so great!
Never give up ap McCoy!! Wish all jockeys like him
Seeing kauto star drop out like that still makes me tearful, such a shame, what a total legend he was!!!
probably one of the best GC's i seen ever. synchronised never looked like doing much until literally the last bit. he never looked in contention. i had money on him each way and at 1 point doubted id even get a place. amazing victory by a great horse and great jockey. i cried when i heard he had died. still brings a tear to my eye watching this. RIP synchronised :'(
that would go down as one of APs best rides. it had no right to win!
I bet it pal I no it does run off the bridle but I thought I was cooked great ride
James 84 same, I thought it was an open gold cup so back it as the only horse would keep running when the other ls cried enough, they shouldn’t have ran him in the grand national because looking at how the gold cup was run the following year he would have definitely won that considering it was on soft ground and they all finished so tired
To right bro
loved kauto star wat lege3nd xxx
HE had no right to win
Thanks for posting! Heard it on radio but couldn't wait to get home to watch. Well done Kauto Star - brave try - very emotional, have never heard applause for a horse being pulled up before. Congratulations AP - the one and only!!
They clapped Istabraq like that too when he pulled up.
What an epic race this was, Synchronised was a legend and its devastating what happened to him.
That was an amazing ride and the horse gave everything over that last jump, very brave!
Won some dollar that day. Thank you synchronized. One of best races I e ever seen.
I'm still watching it amazing!!!!
I get a lump in my throat watching Kauto at the beginning of this race. I did not want him to run and am so glad Ruby pulled him up, if something had happened to him it would be a total disgrace for racing. Love you Kauto. xx
My dear late friend Marcus almost shouted the roof off Coral bookmakers in Seaford where we watched this. Incredible ride from McCoy.
Backed this, probably my favourite race, unbelievable ride, like others have said had no right to win, but Synchronised served it up to them, pure heart. RIP Synchronised.
Backed HIM
First time I've watched this for a few months, f##king hell what a race! Gets me every time #Synchonised
Must admit I shed a tear at the national synchronised had no chance the whole way McCoy off the bridal from pretty much 3rd fence what a legend
We will never see the like of McCoy again.
I was on him this day a good result. I did him in the grand national a few weeks later.
That day I was again had a bet on him. So sad because he was killed in the race. Tony McCoy gave him a brilliant ride in the gold cup that day one of the best finishes in years.
AP/Synchronized jumped the last two SO F'ING FAST. He had an incredible amount of horse at the end.
what a ride what a jockey and what a horse
RIP Synchronised, gone but never forgotten..
The Grand national only a few weeks was very sad for Synchronised. He fell, but jumped round loose., and fell again. The second fall was fatal.
It must also be remembered that he was fine after he fell, he injured himself several fences later when running along of his own accord. It's just a very unfortunate accident.
I think it was Synchronised's death that led to the softening of the Aintree fences
McCoy will get all the plaudits but what a final jump Synchronised gave him.
How McCoy got him up we'll never know!
Your finest hour... RIP Sychronised.. Should never of raced today after unseating AP before the race.
thank you for uploading this
Ap McCoy legend
Could watch this all day, then most of the night, another great battling result from Synchronised & AP (maybe even better than Chepstow Jan 11!) Just wish they get the deserved recognition rather than all the rubbish that's been flying about
Good to see JP McManus finally win the Gold cup. With all the trainers' bills he's paying , he certainly deserves it!!
its amazing how how that hill catches them! that horse never travelled or jumped.less likely two out than lord windermere
For those of you old enough, it's like Alverton (1979) all over again. Synchronised will always be remembered for this race.
He broke it while running free.....
look at this now top ride ua-cam.com/video/C99VDtqZVVc/v-deo.html
He shouldn’t have even run that race, having galloped a mile after unseating AP pre race, the horse was not right and I doubt he would have got round anyway
Cant believe they put him to the national, he had the potential to be a National Hunt great at Cheltenham.
APs greatest ever ride, the two were a great combination. Awesome!
amazing thing is some of us only put it 3rd on the list. that's how many great rides he has pulled off.
ap unbelievable never gives up on a horse when others do . 4000 tony u deserve every one ,look forward to next 4000, top top top man tough as fuck, legend legend
The greatest national hunt jockey of all time....
Absolutely fucking Unbelievable . AP what a legend . This ride and the ride on Wichita Lineman from '09 are just spine chilling .
You can win all the Champion Hurdles you want on board rocket ships Ruby, but it’s performances like this that will always stand AP out as the greatest to ever saddle up.
synchronised was a great horse, kauto star was a true champion even if he did cost me my shirt that day
Cheers Syncronised
i will miss you tony.and so will racing. take care mate
Any other Jockey would have not got Synchronised up. What a Jockey McCoy is
what a ride no other jockey would have won on the sync
mccoy just kept goin even when it was gone from him ,but he new the horse stays all day
Sickened to hear the news about Synchronised RIP
True champion. RIP😢😢😢
What a ride what a day what a win
The only bloke on the planet who can steer a horse like that
I was delighted for McCoy.
Bless their little hoovies they must be knackered!
I backed Syncronised but swore all the way till 2 out, great staying perfomance.
What a horse and what a ride AP gave!
well witchita lineman and mccoy in 2009 was an amazing ride + he gave syncronised a great ride in this aswel !
Perhaps he didn't fade but was passed by some great horses, thanks for the update on the prices. It does look a great race this year an with it just a week a way I can't wait!

You don't "KNOW" anything about spelling either, it would seem.
Fantastic horse.
no horse, jockey, trainer or owner deserved this more. great for the sport. AP never got serious with him, just kept on riding.
Well done connections of Synchronised. We may well see the last of Kauto Star on a British track. Time will tell. Long Run could not defend the title which really sums up this four day meet. The Giant Bolster ran a cracking race and nearly a Norton's Coin moment from 1990.
Now that was impressive, horse got blocked cut up all the time but what a ride that was!
RIP Synchronised :(
Sad he passed that year after a great victory in gold cup
RIP Synchronised
Wow! I watched this without knowing anything about the horses or the riders. Just looking for some quarantine entertainment! R.I.P. Synchronised
Completely agree with you, some people are idiots. Synchronized was a brilliant horse and had a brilliant jockey. AP isn't 17 times champion jockey for nothing!
Agreed mate and at 33/1 ante-post is a steal!
There is no-one to blame here the horse died doing what it wanted it could have refused to race or stopped but even after it fell at Becher's it carried on jumping by itself and fell again at the 11th and that's what killed him. World Best Jockey Tony Maccoy
No matter what anyone says, this wasn't the best of Gold Cups by a long way. Saying that, The Giant Bolster ran a massive race and would have been a lot closer to Synchronised had he not got in very tight to the last. Synchronised took about 2-3 lengths out of him there.

The horse was following the rest of them. Hard to believe the horse loved jumping those fences.
Absolutely. THAT VET has blood on his hands. How dare he start Synchronised. I am so upset about this. I was so shocked when I read he died in the race. I feel so miserable about this.
I've been backin McCoy all week and he kept coming second .Today i didnt bet on him he wins two races at a nice price, should have made a nice profit.
R.I.P.
I understand it's all good. The fact I won't see this truley magnificient horse again both saddens and sickens me. It was a death sentance running him in the Grand National. R.I.P Synchronised.
great race they don't usually come from so far back
Synchronised had such guts as he really wasn't a natural jumper, made a very awkward shape over his fences....
Still to this day I wonder how
These horses are so gusty. Great race.
Heart said yes, but head said no for a couple of weeks (even after watching re-runs of the Welsh National & Lexus!) then heart took over about 30 seconds before the off - happy days!!
The Grand National lost a little of its magic yesterday, how sad.
Surely ride of the century?
r.i.p synchronised :( you won me £150 in this race :)
RIP :'(
