Throughout this series Bluey never says a word, yet is responsible for as much of the platoons success, drive and example as any of the major speaking roles. I love this series and the characters drove it, but Bluey stands out as someone to respect.
An allegory for the silent mass of soldiers who loyally and bravely went about their business with great determination and skill without accumulating medals, without shouting out their deeds, pushing out their chests or writing endless poetry.

At 0:57, Pat Cleary ‘dips his lid’ to the Lancashires Colonel. The only salute freely given by Pat in the entire series.

Monash was in charge of these guys, his secret - look after your troops, treat them as humans, your most valuable resource, do every thing you can to protect them, feed them, honor them; then when you ask greatness of them and the seemingly impossible is need it can be achieved.
The most valuable resource in war is morale, if they think they can win, there is a chance you can. Conversely if you treat your troops like peasants, nothing but worthless meat to be sacrificed for your greatness, merely cannon fodder, they will not help you achieve your mission as you do not deserve there life's, and you should beware the grenade thrown from behind.
After this battle - the Germans were constantly on retreat until the end of ww1.

"Alas foul language merely shows a limited vocabulary..." I think Stephen Fry would somewhat disagree there, anyone want to accuse him of having a limited vocabulary? That statement is to put none too fine a point on it a load of old crap.

@DeusBash Yep!

Thats hilarious. I think that officer with the reserves has one of those german pistols from WW2 with the attachable rifle stock for better accuracy. I could be wrong. Its at 3:42 - 3:45.
