A phrase I always liked is "be ready to get rocked". You ARE going to get hurt, the key is to take the hits and keep moving. The closest you can get to being prepared for that is full contact training because pain or disorientation is overwhelming and you can't just ignore it unless you are, at least a little, used to it. Adrenaline only gets you so far. As Tyson said "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth".
