Captain Witold Pilecki. A victim of the communist dictatorship. Arrested on May 8, 1947 by the communist authorities, Pilecki was tortured, but in order to protect other officers he did not reveal any sensitive information. On March 3, 1948, the trial began before the District Military Court in Warsaw. On March 15, 1948, the captain was sentenced to death. In the second instance, on May 3, 1948, the Supreme Military Court upheld this verdict. The sentence was carried out on May 25 in the Mokotów prison on Rakowiecka Street, by a shot in the back of the head. Witold Pilecki's body is still being sought to this day.
This is a great song and one of most depressing stories told by Sabaton. I mean, this guy got himself captured ON PURPOSE to sneak into Auschwitz to see what's going on there. After that he went above and beyond to help his homeland, just to be executed as a traitor. Incredible
At least now he is treated like a proper hero in Poland, sad that Soviet murdered him, but its not only him, they killed a lot of soldiers of AK ("Armia Krajowa" which roughly translates to National/Home Army). They were afraid that those people will keep fightning for freedom and just murdered thousands of them
I'm glad you know about our hero Pilecki now. Thanks for your reaction!
Yes I’m glad too. Thank you ☺️
A lot of information comes from their fan base. With a global audience each country has stories of heroes that it can pull forth from history.
Oh really ! That’s interesting to hear. Now that’s a very educated fan base
FINALLY you’ve caught on to getting context for Sabaton songs! They have their own historian...but bassist, Par (pron:Pair) is a history buff!
Yes I’ve noticed the same guy from before when looking up the red baron. Nice ! 😊
@@KaireemReactions Hell the entire band are history buffs, Joakim reads hundreds of books every year on history to get inspiration on songs.
@@Razzlion that’s what I love about them 😊
People come too them with info, remember Sabaton has been around for like 20 years
Thank you for explaining and telling me 😊
