This makes a lot more sense if you consider the Lovecraftian references in the show. Wiggly is literally just Tickle-Me-Elmo but Cthulhu. Heck, that “deep down in drowsy town dreamin’ the dreamless sleep of the dead” line is a reference to the book!
Fun fact: Everything that Hannah says actually happened in the show Bad blood: Ethan's death Cross: Wilbur Cross (thank you, EmberTheatre ^w^) Black and White: The other world Two doors, not one: The two portals to the Black and White
Best parts of the musical.... Every part with Gary Every part with Man In a Hurry Santa Clause is going to High School CaliforMIA The entire Monster and Men song with the scene before it Black Friday song The opening Paul and Emma scene "I have this cooky reclusive biology professor" "I'm authorizing you to use my firearm"
All the reactions to General MacNamara are HUGE FRICKIN' MOODS. Also... *1)* Yes, this is an alternate universe to The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals. *2)* Hannah and Lex each have some sort of psychic connection to the Black and White. a) The things Hannah said that didn't make sense were all in some way premonitions to things that happened in the show later on. For example, she said "Don't. Two doors, not one" because there were two portals to the Black and White, so Wiggly could send the bomb through the second door and to Russia and all that. b) When General MacNamara's body dematerialized from being in the Black and White without a suit, his spirit was absorbed into the Black and White, and from there he was able to reach out to Lex, and she was able to reach into the Black and White to take the gun from him and shoot Sherman. c) Webby, whom Ethan calls "the imaginary spider from outer space" is presumably another entity in the Black and White who Hannah communicates with. Except apparently Webby is a good guy, as evidenced by the fact that she warned Hannah about Wiggly. ("Webby says you're bad! She says you'd try and trick me!" "Webby is a STUPID *[B WORD]*") *3)* Uncle Wiley is Wilbur Cross. MacNamara's mentor who got sent through the portal and came out insane. Think about it. He did SAY he was a colonel. And Wiley could definitely be a kiddy nickname for Wilbur.
About that third one, I’m in a group chat on instagram with some black Friday fans and one person got a script somehow. The character list says Wilbur cross (even though when watching the musical you never see a “Wilbur cross”) but it never says uncle Wiley or anything close. So technically it’s confirmed that uncle Wiley is Wilber cross, plus Hannah says “cross” at the beginning of the musical and that would only make sense is we saw a Wilber cross during the musical, and we do, it’s Wiley.
The only reason I slightly dislike Becky is because Dylan as Tom was all upset like ‘i lost my wife and it’s my fault and it feels like I lost my son because he blames me’ and Becky just was like ‘don’t feel bad. I stabbed my husband. If you can’t be forgiven, how can I?’ Like the most self absorbed person. I understand why she brought that up but it wasn’t really comforting from my point of view.
Becky literally doesn't even have a redemption arc--they don't even want us to like her. Like literally what's redeeming about her?? She shoots Linda??? Okay, I guess, but if anything it just goes to deepen our understanding that she's willing to kill people (and drug children). She just genuinely isn't a good person and it's really hard to view her as such once she revealed she killed her abusive husband in the woods. Like okay, that's forgivable maybe, but then she just continues to do creepy and weird things (like drugging a child for a stuffed doll she was supposedly going to give to another child). To use an anecdote from another Starkid musical, we see Professor Hidgens shoot Charlotte after she's been blue-shit-ified (a good deed!), but that's not when he gains our trust or love. No, that's something that he builds after a long pattern of funny lines and actions. Becky shooting Linda is similar: it's a good deed, but it doesn't regain any trust in my eyes. TL;DR: Becky doesn't have enough redeeming actions toward the climax and end of the show to make her likable.
Solaris I disagree. Tom did the same to Hannah, the only reason that happened was because of Wiggly’s powers. The same thing happened to the President, his cabinet, everyone in the store, etc. There’s even a theory that Becky only missed her syringe because of consciousness fighting against Wiggly, but you can choose whether or not to believe that. And killing her husband was self-defense, it was her husband that chased her into the woods with a knife with the intention to kill her.
Black Friday is one of my favorite starkid musicals I love it so much!! I saw it live on closing night and honestly it was one of the best days of my life. Also I have a wiggly lol I couldn’t stop myself from buying one
“Wait how did she get that? What’s happening?” General John McNamara went into the black and white to save Howard Goodman, the President (I’m a status quo democrat!) but he went in without a suit so his body was absorbed into the black and white. Hannah is able to communicate with the black and white, hence Webby (which sounds a lot like Wiggly) keeps saying things like cross, bad blood, and black and white. Lex also has this power we just don’t realize it until the end where she manifests McNamara’s gun (I am authorizing you to use my firearm!) from the black and white because she can mentally reach into it. How they got this power? We don’t know. We know Lex’s mom is a bitch and an alcoholic but that’s really all we know about her family. They might reveal more in the next musical, Nerdy Prude which is assumed to be about Grace Chastity (Bill Calls Grace a nerdy prude in TGWDLM and Tom mentions that Grace is Tim’s usual babysitter but had to cancel last minute hence Paul and Emma showing up and babysitting Tim in the beginning of the show. Grace maybe cancelled because if the blue shit and apotheosis from TGWDLM? Idk. That’s just a theory. Anyway, yea. I thought I’d put this here
The one thing that’s was annoying me was that he kept mentioning one character looked like another. We know they are played by the same person. He also did not appreciate Linda enough.
I saw this awesome theory on the Black Friday vid, You know how the next musical is called nerdy prudes must die with grace chasity and the bot chocolate boy thing the guys theory was that it’s gonna he paranormal cause he thinks that PEIP means Paranormal, extra terrestrial, inter dimensional phenomenon tgwdlm was extra terrestrial, Black Friday was inter dimensional so does that mean the final hatchet field musical will be a paranormal situation, Yeah I just thought it was a hella cool theory
I have answers for you! If I miss anything, feel free to ask! Yes, the Hatchetfield in Black Friday is an alternate dimension of the one from TGWDLM. It's a Hatchetfield where the meteor never dropped. Everything Hannah said that seemed gibberish was foreshadowing. She and her sister both have a gift, a connection of sorts to the Black and White or other Entities. Webby is likely another entity like Wiggly. Hannah can hear Webby and Lex can draw things out of the Black and White - which was how she was able to communicate with our lovely General and get his gun. The Black and White is the realm Wiggly resides in - both the realm and Wiggley seems to be inspired by based/on Cthulhu and Lovecraftian mythos. Remember the nuke they accidentally hit Moscow with? The whoosh at the end was very likely jets/fighter planes and the start of WW3. The appearance of TGWDLM characters was both a nod to the first, a way of underlining that it IS the same town, as well as a little hint towards some things we might see in the future. Robert wearing the Hot Chocolate Guy's costume instead of Professor Higgens, for example, hints towards us seeing more of that particular character in a return to Hatchetfield universe(s).
I was getting Stephen King vibes than H.P. Lovecraft, but everything else is spot on. Also, is Wiggly's human avatar giving me satanic vibes or is it just me? Red lights? Holding an apple?
the whole musical was a blatant metaphor for how intrinsically capitalism benefits off of personal strife and grief and financial loss, and how no matter how much brands say they care about you they only want more money.

you should see the TGWDLM one. When Mr Davidson walks on, Stephen literally says "okay that guy looks exactly like 5 other people in the cast" and I fuckin facepalmed
Every time I watch this, I think "this is click baiting. No way is it gonna be accurate." You'd think by the fourth time, I'd remember that it's 100% accurate.
Late to the party, but I have three phrases that can either confuse you, or clear things up (I'll include some translations): "Tickle Me Elmo" (Wiggly Doll) "Stephen King" (Psychic Little Girl) "Satan" (Apple Man in Red Lighting)
Nothings been completely confirmed but that’s what I thought too, the meteor changed the universe slightly so some characters died and the rest forget what happened and get a whole new life, at least that’s what I think
That doesn’t fit with the timeline at all. TGWDLM started a day before the meteor, not right after. I get that this is a reality bending musical series, but if the timeline of events worked where one disaster immediately changed to the next, it wouldn’t work.
No. It's implied to be a nuke from Russia. Nothing in TGWDLM happened in this reality, it happened in an alternate one. Hence why there's all the references to alternate realities/dimensions throughout the musical. TGWDLM, Black Friday, and Starkid's next musical in line called 'Nerdy Prudes Must Die' all take place in Hatchetfield, but in different realities. I think Nerdy Prudes was the first written, then Black Friday, then TGWDLM, hence why in the opening number of TGWDLM it's referred to as "the last remaining story to tell".
ngl i literally can't watch or listen to Black Friday after I saw it for the 1st time - it was too serious of a tone for me, but more importantly something about Ethan's death just shut my down inside and I can't think about the musical without getting sick/sad because of that? its a weird reaction and like I'll quote Gary Goldstein and Linda etc no problem but anything related to the show more than that just breaks me for a reason I can't figure out so yeah thats fun
"Were they high when the writers wrote this?"
It's Starkid. So, yes.

ngl i literally can't watch or listen to Black Friday after I saw it for the 1st time - it was too serious of a tone for me, but more importantly something about Ethan's death just shut my down inside and I can't think about the musical without getting sick/sad because of that? its a weird reaction and like I'll quote Gary Goldstein and Linda etc no problem but anything related to the show more than that just breaks me for a reason I can't figure out so
yeah thats fun
