A few years ago I went on an adventure to find the Windows XP background grassy hill called “bliss”. This is Minecraft’s “bliss”. We must find it

i swear i played this seed in pocket 0.5, pig, hill, cliff, everything. is it possible they had the world gen for pocket done when this picture was made? but werent using it? i dunno, i think i definitely played it.i thought the image was because thats what the world looks like when you load it in.

Much easier to find on a set seed like 2B's, but not impossible with enough bruteforcing and hoping notch didn't move too far away from spawn.
that trick is used to find coordinates given you know the seed beforehand
2b2t has a public seed, seed finding from images is much harder than position finding with the seed

Those people are able to find location because they know the seed. This problem is the other way around
In this case idk if it's possible.
You could reverse engineer the seed if you knew the coordinates of the blocks in that picture.
The way maps are generated is with a pseudo-random algorithm, and you may not know the seed, but you can calculate it if you know what some blocks are at their respective coordinates.
In this case, if you knew the coordinates of the player who screenshot, as well as the values of the operations made over your view matrix, you could figure out the coordinates of the blocks and thus the seed.
But ain't nobody got time for that.
Plus if I had to guess that was a random screenie someone took during development.
So seed 0, or some number from 0-1000 are your best bet. (the numeric value someone woulda put in the code, not the one that goes in the text box for the seed, since that didn't exist and is boiled down to some other value).

This reminds me: back in the old version of the pocket edition (when worlds were still finite in size), me and someone else managed to find the seed for the world that was displayed in the background of the menu. I remember it was something along the lines of a small ravine in a green, grassy area and that the seed was likely "chuck" or something along those lines. We even found the exact spot where the image was taken and stood on it. I think that this was at least a year or two before they added infinite worlds.

@Bartek270 the panorama is 6 90fov images. One of the sky, one of thy ground, 4 of sides. At least 4 have valuable information. And i think they are 256x256 or 512x512, i dont remember, but thats 4 or 8 times of pixels than the resource pack icon.

He mentions in the video that seeds technically existed in previous versions, just that you couldn't view them without messing with files.
imlegos Yes, but because you couldn’t select a seed in the version of Minecraft where the image was taken, it might have been a random seed. That would make finding the seed much harder - near impossible if notch doesn’t still have the world.

It is possibly that notch/mojang (idk who was working on minecraft at the time) simply just loaded up a new random world, found a cool looking cliff and took the image and called it a day. Meaning the seed containing that image could be any random number. Even if you got the seed, god knows where exactly that cliff is in said world. The person who took the image could have traveled 2 blocks, 20 blocks, or just flew in a direction for god knows how many hours

Hello, the hill is now found! Seven Minecraft fans used several NVIDIA DGX-2 Supercomputers to find 230-trillion possible minecraft worlds for an exact location that only existed within a static image. The seed of the world is 3257840388504953787. The location of the mountain is x=49 and z=0.

I'm intrigued my this video. I asked my uncle who had been part of the company when it was new. He was part of the company until 2014. His answer was " We made it up ". Well the way he said it was very sarcastic. After a few weeks, he went on to the topic again. His answer wasn't really direct but I believed it a little bit. He said that he was also peculiar of this picture because none of his colleagues weren't able to tell him where it came from. He said when they programmed the first version to have texture packs, a programmer randomly applied this picture for the texture pack. I barely knew my uncle's past and I'm not that close to him. I'm not sure what division from the mojang team he was or even he was part of the Minecraft programming. Hope that this mystery will be solved and please upload another video about this.

I actually remember this map almost vividly. This map came from the old Minecraft DEMO version from way back. As I recalled my memory, I realized that this image was taken on the exact same mountain I built my first cave home. So seeing this every time I load Minecraft is a true nostalgia trip. Also there is a third way: When a world gets saved but no screenshot for the world thumbnail was taken.
Or when you reset the world icon

why not? a lot of people have always wondered where the pic was taken, but never got an answer. now it is probably the most iconic picture from minecraft, ever!

It's theoretically possible with a brute force method and enough processing power. Just get a supercomputer to run through everything seed and check for matches. Should be easy enough.
A problem, though, is that there could be more than one match, in which case we will never know.
@@thewarlord6529 The packpng group are running 2-6 NVIDIA DGX-2 Supercomputers. That's 2 petaFLOPS of processing power per machine. At 10 tries a second which they are at it would take 731892 years to find by random guessing. More processing power is not the answer.

SalC1, I have a theory for you to use to reverse engineer the seed without a super computer, by mimic-ing the bedrock pattern exploit.
The tree patterns are deterministic. Create a program that mimics only the X and Z positioning of the trees in that version of Minecraft's world generation.
Now, determine the exact pattern of the trees in the screenshot (recreate the screenshot pixel for pixel by building that terrain and taking screenshots maybe?).
Find the seeds that contain that pattern of trees somewhere near spawn, say, within 1000 blocks?
Now go through those seeds and check if the topology matches in the spot that you found that tree pattern.
"I've seen those trees before... See you soon."

So I've thought about this issue, and have found a way to reduce the number of seeds that need to be searched drastically.
Back then, you couldn't type a seed; it was chosen for you. However, it wasn't random. It was based off of something called Unix time; which is basically the number of seconds since January 1st 1970.
This means, each day has 86,400 seconds per day, or 86,400 possible seeds generated in a day.
We know the screenshot was taken after the grass color was changed; which happened for the Halloween update, October 30th, 2010.
Coincidentally, this is the same update in which the screenshot first appears!
We know that the last version of alpha 1.1 (1.1.2_01) was released September 23rd, 2010.
This means the screenshot must have been taken between September 23rd, and October 30th. A period of just 37 days.
This many days contains 'only' 3,196,800 seeds. This drastically reduces the 281 trillion figure from the video.
SalC1, if you do try to search every possible seed, please use only the seeds that could have been used in this limited time period. You will drastically reduce your efforts.

EDIT: for those who actually want to find the original map from 8 years ago, the creators official site/forum no longer exists. but if you copy the forum link from the original video's description and paste it into the wayback machine, it works and they actually backed up the map file as well, jut use the download button on that old forum post.

That picture isn’t only on Java it was once on minecraft pocket edition back in 2011-2012 it was on the world screen
not just 2012. if i remember correctly it was in the game up to somewhere around 0.13 - 0.14 as the menu background, shortly before it got merged into bedrock in... 2016 or 17 or somewhere around that time.
minecraft started in java so it will most likely be there.
