My friend Royce Campbell was Henry's guitarist for 11 years. He told me Henry was an absolute gentleman, and always took great care of his band and treated them with respect. Everything was first class. I love his music, and knowing he was such a great guy just makes it that much better!
I'm 30 years old and the first time I ever heard the name Henry Mancini was when I learned as a kid that he did the music for Tom and Jerry: The Movie, which I had on VHS growing up. Years later, still as a kid, I'm listening to Vince Guaraldi's cover of Days of Wine and Roses, and slowly but surely, I became a fan of the man's music. This album is going to be excellent!
Since I was a child. Baby Elephant Walk and all the rest. I'm thankful that this is the soundtrack of my life. Melody. A Johnny Mercer lyric. Good stuff. And thanks for saying "the great" Andy Williams. He's largely forgotten and underrated now too, but he had a unique and endearing voice.
I heard so much of Henry Mancini's music growing up. And although "Moon River" is associated with Andy Williams, I wonder how many people know that the first person to record the song was Jerry Butler!
Just perfect hearing Michael Buble sing Moon River, my all time favourite since I first watched "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and heard the song. Love this!😄
And don’t forget Johnny Mercer with his lyrics - We're after the same rainbow's end Waitin' 'round the bend My huckleberry friend Moon river and me Mancini and Mercer - two Oscars in a row for Best Song after Days of Wine and Roses.
The first time I heard Moon River, I was riding down Times Square with my grandma and her friends. The juxtaposition of lights and Henry Mancini’s music is forever ingrained in my mind and heart.
Weirdly one of my favorite Mancini moments is in SATC When Big is explaining the magic of Moon River. to Carrie. As a boy he'd thought it was "two twisters". So they slowly do the twist to the song.
John Williams' music also continues to resonate. From Jaws, Superman, ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park ... 90 years old and still composing ❤
My youngest grandson always wants to listen to Christmas music when we’re in the car. Last year, at 8 years old, asked if a song on one of the Home Alone CD’s was composed by John Williams, bc he heard some similarities to Harry Potter music. I’m a professional musician, and I’m trying to teach him about composers, genres, meters, etc. My son plays bass professionally and has toured the world. I did the same with him. Maybe there will be another generation of musicians in our family (my mom and 2 of her siblings were also in the field. 🤞
@@luvastandardbred8270 True! And that is the importance of young people having an opportunity to learn and play with the older mentors. This is true for all types of music including Classical and Jazz. Music is still best passed person to person as when Bach had teachers and on down through the generations.
LOVE THIS BEAUTIFUL 1961 RESEASED CLASSIC FOR SO MANY REASONS! IN '1962 WE SWAM TO IT IN A WATER BALLET FOR THE AIR AND WATER SHOW AND IN 2019 UNFORGETABLE VIEW OF FULL MOON ON THE RHINE RIVER WHILE QUARTET PLAYED THIS SONG!
Brilliant, heartwarming, memorable music aside for a second??? Henry Mancini and his wife Ginny were also huge philanthropists, helping musicians who were in financial stress, or need. The Mancini Foundation quietly does what it does, assisting and supporting.
Pink Panther is my favorite cartoon! The only time i visited Bogatta, Columbia on a business trip in jan 2013, we walked passed a bar at night, the band was playing Pink Panther, i had to stop, to listen to the band 😊
I love when things like that happens. Was watching a vid of Robbie Williams, no relation 😂 singing I Wanna be Like you from the Jungle Book! Dee lightful ❤
I'm under 50 and I know who Henry Mancini is. But there's recording of "Moon River" with Stevie Wonder blowing his harmonica and Take 6 on background vocals...PURE MAGIC!!!
Originally Andy Williams passed on Moon River because his manager wanted Andy to appeal to a younger audience so Henry Mancini recorded an instrumental version which went gold then singer Jerry Butler recorded a version which also went gold so Andy Williams went into the studio and recorded an album of Oscar winners and recorded Moon River which is now considered the standard but the end 1962 H Mancini offered Andy to record the title track from the days of Wine and roses this time Andy Andy said yes once again lyrics by Johnny Mercer give Director Blake Edwards a little credit for using henry Mancini for his Peter Gunn theme and high think thank Mr. lucky and then using Henry for breakfast at Tiffany’sAnd The Days of Wine and Roses one year later. I believe that Director Stanley Donen used Mancini and Mercer again one year later for Charde. “When we played our charade we were like children….
Hank Mancini one of a kind. Musical jewel. PETER GUNN Soundtrack worth spinning front to back. The track FALLOUT a real gem. Hank played MOON RIVER on the Lawrence Welk show and it's worth digging the clip up. Just to see the composer play his music himself is amazing. PS Shout out to PERCY FAITH, who was Hank's contemporary.
The statement Mancini's son-in-law made about nobody under the age of 50 knowing who Mancini is .. Sadly, it's true. And that breaks my heart. Mancini was a genius who left us w/ a plethora of fantastic music. Moon River is my favorite. Every time I hear it when I watch Breakfast At Tiffany's it brings tears to my eyes.♥ (btw .. I'm 48)
Coincidence is that Mancini's 100th birthday was last month and we lost Bob Newhart last week: Mancini, of course, was the composer of the theme to "Newhart", which was a show I grew up on. Also, this year will be the 40th anniversary of Mancini's theme for "Hotel" (a.k.a. "The Love Boat w/o the Laughs", as it was produced by Aaron Spelling).
Nancy LaMott's Moon River remains my quintessential cover of Moon River. Her whole Mercer and Mancini album , Two For the Road is incredible. Arranged by the wonderful Christopher Marlow. She was taken from us FAR too soon. ua-cam.com/video/HdDX19NFe9Q/v-deo.html

Thank you for sharing this. Knowing the decency of the artist always enhances my pleasure of his or her work.
Henry Mancini's timeless music lives on. I'm glad newer generations are discovering his music.
22 year-old here! I fell in love with Henry Mancini's discography when I was a junior in high school and have been listening ever since ❤ 2:08
Perfect music that transcends age and class. Everyone loves Mancini!
The soundtrack of my childhood. Loved the Christmas albums
After all theses years, moon river still gives me goosebumps ❤
Tears 😢
Thank you for the “goosebumps” comment. I’ve always had them when I have heard the song. 🎶 I am 67.

Listen to the OG version of Days with Andy Williams. 😢
Amazing. Michael Bublé had a cold, and he was still able to give a top notch performance. Imagine that....

oh, i love the baby elephant walk. thanks for the reminder! :)
Still watch old Christmas specials with Andy Williams ❤
All my life, Moon River has been my favorite song. Three minutes of perfection.
31 year old here and I’ve known Henry Mancini music since I was 4
40-year-old, here, and have been familiar with him and his music since probably the same age as yourself ❤🎶

I had to stop watching for a bit. Crying my eyes out 😢
Huzzah! Love this. Huge fan of Mancini's beautiful music.
I danced on my dad’s wingtips, to Henry Mancini!!💕😇Hail Henry!!!
Moon River still brings me to tears… every time ❤

Days of Wine & Roses ❤😊

My mom played Mancini and sang along with it to help me go to sleep.
I’m quite a few years under 50, and The Great Race and Charade have been my favorite movies since I was little, both with music by Henry Manci! ❤️
I can’t wait to buy that album!!!! Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Moon River was me and grams song! 😊
A beautiful tribute to a timeless musician and song.
Moon River, both words and music, is one of the most powerfully moving secular songs ever in history! ❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Agreed 💯 the other song which are on this level are LA vie en Rose and "I have no regrets" both in French sung by Edith Piaf
i love michael buble'. he sings like spreading soft butter! smoooooth.

Micheal Buble is just as amazing. He does the great Henry Mancini justice.
Henry wrote with such incredible depth.

Elton John cannot sing Moon River.
Why would he want to?
