7 3 24, c.e. grants pass .or. usa. Had great vibrato session this am. Casually trying Meditation. I don't have calluses yet!. I like the background violin pieces , I seem to eventually zero in on them. This like Sebellious and Massenette it's very beautiful and lubliminally I seem to sort of stumble in on the first several bars. I like that! Lately I've been having problems with bridge squirm. And peg release. I may have to loosen all strings and left or rt. Justify them so peg.does not eject tension. I have wanted.to play this.well for years! Back the way up the way and there's even a background song to remind.me. I love your teaching method. I am so fortunate for your help. Thank you Nicola!😅

I loved that performance of that Shostakovich concerto somewhere in Scandanavia. It was so subtle and musical.

So when im rested i will probably reinstall fine tuners and boxwood end plug. RIGHT NOW MY BEST VIOLIN. SOUNDS CARDBOARDY, OR BOXY. IT USED TO PROJECT AND I COULD PLAY THEME FROM MASTERPIECE THEATER. NOW IT SOUNDS REALLY GOOD WITH THE EVA PIRAZZIS, BUT THE PROJECTION IS LIKE THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL. IT SOUNDS LIKE A CAVE! I FEAR I MAY HAVE SPOILED MY BEST VIOLIN. IM REALLY WORRIED ABOUT IT. .BUT LIKE I SAID, I SOUND LIKE ASWASHBUCKLER ON A GALLEON WITH THE EVA PIRRAZZI STRINGS, MANY THANKS. I MUST GET DINNER NOW AND BLESS YOU FOR YOUR SOLID RECOMMENDATION OF EVA PIRRAZZI STRINGS, I FEEL LIKE IM HOME NOW, THEY FEEL REALLY COMFY!😊😊😊 BYE YOUR EVER FAITHFUL STUDENT IN USA CHRIS E

Hi, Nikki! I played my violin this morning, i think, and this evening. I played the daring young man on the flying trapeze. Im using Guillaume rosin, and I like it very much. It spreads well, and I did not have to scratch it to start it. It is smoother, and more delicate and the dark tones are more articulate. The high e is also better able to sing. I M GLAD I WAS PATIENT AND FINALLY RECIEVED MY PIERRE G. ROSIN. IT ALSO PLAYS DOUBLE STOPS MUCH BETTER, ERGO MORE HARMONIOUS AND BLENDABLE SOUND. MY FAVORITE ROSINS NOW ARE POPS BASS ROSIN, AND P.GUILLAUME DARK AMBER. I USE THE POPS WHEN I REALLY NEED BITE ON THE STRINGS. THE GUILLAUME I USE FOR DAILY PRACTICE. THIS IS ONLY MY 2ND DAY OF USING Guillaume rosin, I need to comb my bows and maybe give them a shampoo. Ps I love your double stops and 3rds louver practice, those tones are very beautiful Im sorry you turned down the volume on them, they remind me of jet plane landing or taking off, very smooth and scientific. I NEED TO USE SOME EUCALYPTUS OIL ON MY DIRTY STRINGS. NOW THERES NO EXCUSE, I HAVE GOOD SOLID EQUIPMENT AND I CAN JUST PLAY, PLAY ,PLAY AND STRENGTHEN MY LEFT HAND.BYE FOR NOW,YOURS VERY TRULEY, CHRIS E.USA

Chris E. In usa.7 12 24 . I'm working from Richeys, Chats With Violinists. Experimenting with car wax on strings. Recommended early on but not utilized. Waxed rosin! Does it.just cause skating, or.am I on to something? Must say goodbye for now. I'm going back and study Grigory kalinovskys bow juggling, I think there's important stuff I've been missing. The wax is supposed to reduce harshness. I reduced harshness early on with eucalyptus oil on bow hairs. Be careful if you do this! It takes a day for the.Eucalptus oil to evaporate from the bow hairs. But it effectively allows smooth bow passages. Don't ruin your Fonclause bow! Try an expendable bow and see if you like eucalyptus oil. For me it lessens harshness and glides wonderfully but may cause skating or glazing the rosin. Gotta go! Bye for now😅

This session has been really helpful, thanks. I’ve watched it and I have a question: when I am using my 2nd 3rd and 4th fingers my 1st finger points upwards, should I try to stop this happening? Should I post this question somewhere else?

I’m a violist with a small hand and a large viola and within the frame of the hand it’s essential to be able to release the first finger to focus strength on the other fingers. The main thing is to keep everything as relaxed as possible, check that the thumb is supporting the fingers rather than working against them. Fingers popping up is no issue when other aspects of technique are considered: angle of arm, rotation from elbow, finger height above strings, angle of hand and fingers when playing. I also play violin and the same rules apply but less so. On viola I have to extend upwards and downwards with the lower positions just to play the basic notes, on violin it’s possible to play with a more rigid hand frame but everything works just so much better when the left hand can open from the knuckle joint with a ‘laid back’ finger action.

Joachim bow index finger pointed up and out, I don't see any reason why you should be trimmed about your index finger, remember what Nicola says, let the form of your hand be natural. If your concerned let the index form a graceful curve or delicate hook as though summoning the Greek Gods! But that's just my opinion, chris e. Usa!😅

P.S. good question, and I think you can and should point the index straight up, remember what Nikki says, comfy hand. Let it be comfortable. Don't worry.

If I've given you miss information I humbly apologize, IF it were me I think I would let the index point robustly up so that if needed, you can spring it back down and have full force.c.e.usa

Hi Nicky it's eve of 29 Nov. 2023 sorry for break in correspondence this afternoon. They had to move my trailer because of sink hole by the side of my trailer. Well it's done they moved it placed some gravel and now it's back in position. Anyway practiced vibrato w. What's her name knock slide rock and it feels like the hinge movement that you do but I have to grab the left palm and hook it on upper plate. Not lower like I see you do. I feel like I'm doing exactly what your doing but on the upper plate. I haven't felt that my left wrist was hinging correctly there was some stiffness that seems to prevent occupation as you do it. Goat writer again someone's changing my words sorry. Bye for now c.e. usa nov.29 2023 608pm.❤
