  • In this video I will walk you through the steps I took in order to build a LED bar on my piano which illuminates anytime I press the keys. This is what you can see in famous piano channels like Rousseau or Kassia but also something I use in my own videos.
I will provide below all the material I used for this build, please feel free to ask any questions.

Great video, you talk very clearly. I have copied the same steps as you did in the video, but I'm having an issue. Whenever I connect the WS2812B led strip only the first light opens, it's always white and doesn't change. When I disconnect the power from the led it flashes red for half a second and then turns off. I have tried a lot of things but nothing has worked, do you have any idea?

I was wondering if it's possible to change how long each key is if the lights either stretch too far or not far enough? (I haven't recieved all the components yet, so that's why I'm asking)
If it works when the components have arrived, this is a great and clear guide :)

I tried this setup by myself but some problems occured and i'm not really sure what actually went wrong. When i powered the Pi, the display showed that light blue screen for a second and then it turned into a blackscreen. Since then the display is black the whole time and the Pi gets very very hot at the side of the charging USB port.
Most likely i did something very stupid but i need to understand the mistake i did in order to prevent further mistakes even if i have to rebuy the pi and maybe also a new power supply ^^
Also the LEDs didn't light up in the first place so this could also be another mistake i made.
So it would be very nice if you could help me out

Since there's only one USB port in my digital piano (no MIDI port), I'm wondering how my keyboard can be connect to both my laptop and the LED visualizer at the same time. Could u give me some advice?

one way to do this would be to connect the Pi0 to your laptop using RPI (remote access through wifi), that would allow to only connect your piano to the pi0 and then the pi0 to your laptop.
i have not done it personally but there are a lot of article around setting this up. (you can start reading this, i will try to find other post i found before core-electronics.com.au/tutorials/raspberry-pi-zerow-headless-wifi-setup.html)

Hey Florin no bother at all. hard to debug without having the setup with me but lets try !
For the midi: do you connect to your PI through wifi? (ssh) ? i have not used this feature but I can definitely try to check on my end if that works. but when you connect to ssh you can create a "song" folder and drop your midi there. probably also access the directory from the Pi which does not seem to be visible if you just read the memory card.
      For the lighting, few things
      1. you 100% the connection is made in the led bar black cap ? (i removed it and twist the copper wire together on my steup) - not sure but worth trying?
      2. this is the only visual difference i see between your picture and my setup: my white wire makes a V in the led head adapter while your seems to be in the led bar cap? maybe something to check on that end if you replace this connection and plug the white to the - side of the led bar cap. Let me know if you get some results with this.
if it doesn't work you can join my discord and we can connect together to solve it. discord.gg/tTSxfNfx
