Hi Chris I'm from northern Ireland UK and I'm really enjoying your updates they're very informative, I'm only starting out with a few zebras and society but learn a lot from you, keep up the good work
Great video. Lots of info! I'm new to this. I got a pair about a month ago and today the hen laid a 2nd egg. The male is OB/BB and female is BB/OB split. I'm curious of the outcome
birdnerd They ended up having 5 eggs and all 5 hatched. They are about 6 days old. The male hogs the nest and is always feeding the chicks. Female feeds a few times and but stays outside of the nest and jumps around very fast as if she needs or is looking for something. Is this normal?
Hi Chris. I have a question about zebra finches.i have a male black cheek and white female zebra finch .i was about to breed them but i thought that i should know what will the colour of chicks when the grow up will or should be Thank you
Great question. It can depend on if your male is splits to CFW “Chestnut Flanked White” which is what your female zebra finch is. It can also depend of if your female is split to black cheek. If they aren’t split for anything then you’ll get normal grey males and females but they will all be split to black cheek and your males will be split to CFW as well. The CFW gene is sex linked so if I remember right you could get some white feathered chicks and they would all be females. Now if your parents are split to those colors then you could get a mix of white females/males and black cheek babies and normals. So could be fun to see what they produce.
Hi there Chris I have a large cage containing four budgies and three zebra finches I Have two budgie nesting boxes and a wicker nest Set up for the zebra finches what I am experiencing currently is that the buggies are hanging out around the finch nest what are your thoughts on this also are you on Instagram it’s easier for me to create messages and contact you from there let me know your thoughts on the budgies hanging out in the finch nest thanks so much
For most species it’s when they are fully molted into their adult plumage. The general rule is to hold birds from breeding until they are around 12 months old for best breeding results
Hey cris how are u doing I love ur video so cris my name is Manny I just what to ask u if my birds are not having egg can I change the female to see if they can have eggs
Just wanted to share the news, i've bred out a baby zebra finch(black cheek) and when it matured he began to get orange on the back of his cheeks and on his side he has orange and black.
@@birdnerd Thanks. I placed two nest (different types) in their cage about 3 weeks ago, but they are not showing any interest. I figure that they are either too young or that they will not breed because they are in my family room (too much traffic). I enjoy you videos.
@@birdnerd ive found the problem its becuse the female bird waits intil the nest is just right to lay eggs. and when you buy them from the pet shop there young when you buy them. ive got be patience whith them.
Got my first two baby chicks ever now. Almost 2 weeks, now. A dream come true. Thanks for the info, it helped me so much.

my male and female bird are mature but the female just isnt laying
They may not have bonded. Maybe give them another week together and if no eggs appear separate them for a while and then put them back together.
