@hotbloodchris . I took this film of Kam Tin a short time after I arrived in HK in september 1949. But I believe it is still there although 'renovated'.

The last part of the video the village metal gate had some big history behind it. 1898 Treaty of Peking also called the second Opium war, China leased or gave up New Territory to UK for 99 years. The villagers in NT fought the British army and of course was defeated. Army took the metal gate back to UK museum for sovereign. Later,British returned the gate to the villagers from UK because the villagers made a strong demand for their heritage back. Bob from Toronto

    thank you , Sir!
The Kowloon and Canton Railway used to have a station named Tai Po Kau, which is gone now and it is closer to TO LU Harbour than Tai Po Station which located close to Tai Po new market in 70's

The wall city is Kat Hing Wai in Kam Tin, not the walled city in kowloon.

Dear Mr. Rogge, at the beginning of this film, where seems like a railway station, can you tell me was there Shatin or Taipo or others? thx

0:11 It is clearly written in English "Tai Po". There was a lot of confusion between the two Taipo stations just a few minutes apart. There is a "Tai Po" station which is no more than a pier to the To Lu Harbor, and there is a "Tai Po Market" station a few minutes away further north which is the town center. The Tai Po Market is what people refer to whenever Tai Po is mentioned. When people want to mention the pier, then it is the Tai Po Kau. This has caused a lot of confusions until things got changed later. My dad one time helped a westerner who go off the train at Tai Po and wondered what happened to the town. My dad explained to him that he got off too early at Tai Po Kau. The poor guy scratched his head and complained that there's no "cow" in Tai Po! :-))

@@gent88ut many thx! as I also wonder that the TaiPo station or Tai PO market station should be far away from the ToLu Habour! TaiPo Kau station was abandon in 1980's after the railway getting electrified

Its what happens after 10 years, the bones of the dead are then put in these pots and get put in a mausoleum, some are just left on the hillside. As villagers my family have the right to be buried near their home in Tai Po.
