Matt: Thank you for the tips and videos. Mid October '2024 we are taking Epic from Rome and Western Mediterranean then Transatlantic cruise to Orlando Florida. 13 days total. My wife and I have been on several cruises before. This will be our longest cruise. We'll see how The Epic turns out.
Sounds like fun - I'm sure you'll have a great time.... I'm really tempted to do a positioning / transatlantic cruise but it feels like such a commitment of time.... Particularly with no ports to spice things up!
The bathroom is really odd and would definitely put me off. Never tried NCL but might try the new one, Prima, which looks really nice. Really enjoy the videos on both channels and often make me laugh, great entertainment as well as informative.
Hi again Mark! Popping up all over the place - fantastic! I'm looking at the very latest couple of Norwegian ships as they have solo traveller cabins with some facilities specifically for singles which I'd like to cover... The Prima is still quite expensive as its the newest but the slightly older ships are similar in size and have some interesting itineraries....
I have only been on one cruise and that was the Epic 7 years ago. I am scheduled to sail on her again in April. I did find the bathroom layout very odd even having nothing to compare it to. I have to agree with your review. I did enjoy everything, including the entertainment onboard. Unfortunately, NCL has decided in its infinite wisdom to cut costs by cutting entertainment. This may be a deal breaker for me as far as future cruises are concerned. Thanks, Matt!
Thanks Fennella. Fascinated to know whether you're repeating the Epic as you know what you're getting or whether that was the itinerary you wanted? Long odds on the latter, given the number of ships out there these days!
@@MattsOceans For this sailing, I am joining family who had already booked. The 50% discount and Free at Sea help, as well. I would have chosen Epic again, as I really didn't get the opportunity to try any of the food venues other than the MDR and Buffet. We had a very port intensive Mediterranean itinerary, so little time to check out everything the ship had to offer. I suspect I will be somewhat disappointed as I did enjoy the onboard entertainment which has been cut back substantially. As a solo traveller, NCL offers the best price from other cruise lines. I will let you know how good or bad my second Epic experience will be.
Witty and unique (not almost unique😏yes we were listening) narrative we enjoy from you Matt plus some genuinely informative content we weren't aware of and has been interesting to learn about
Hi Janet. It's always a bit nerve-wracking when I make a video like this in case someone loses excitement about an upcoming trip... It's a fantastic ship with some cool elements - its just that those elements are different to what you might have gotten used to on other ships... The sightlines in the Comedy Club are not an issue if you get there early! Want to see the Beatles? Get there early! Hopefully this video helps you prepare mentally and won't dent the excitement...
@@MattsOceans NOTHING dents my excitement for a cruise, even though I've only been on 5 haha- all NCL, as I am a solo traveler on a budget. I plan to watch more of your videos and have subscribed. Keep going!
Brilliant tour Matt. What on earth had they done to that chicken on the buffet? Never been on a proper cruise, but this looks somewhat odd and like a floating Butlins?
Hi! That chicken was very weird - it really didn't need any additional emphasis in the voice over!!! If you like travelling, I think a cruise ship is a great option! I am scripting a video about this, so stay tuned!
We are going on the Epic Dec 2024.. And we've decided to embrace the uniqueness of it. We figure someone can be using the toilet while someone else is showering and someone else can be brushing their teeth.. All leaving the others alone.. So, no, not exactly a fan of it, gonna make the best of it and pretty much sure we'll still have a great time!!!
Thanks Roger. You feel a bit boxed in when you're inside. But I guess its like an ugly house or car - you can't tell its ugly when you're in it yourself!
You had me with your opinions on "very unique"! Sailing on the Epic in a few months and I can't wait!!
I'm not picky about many language traits, but that one does make me shout at the telly!!!

I've sailed on the epic a couple of times and, despite the strange cabin bathroom layout, have liked and enjoyed the ship.
Good to hear - I found the rest of the ship to be a little odd compared to others I'd been on but I still enjoyed the experience!

A great informative video. Thanks!
You are more than welcome!

Thanks so much! Happy to be part of the online community!
Sailing on her November of 20234. Hoping the reduced entertainment and menu choices do not adversely affect our experience.
I'm sure you'll have a great time!
New subscriber here - love your style of video. Not 100% sure the Norwegian Epic cabins would work for us though - some very random features 😵
Thanks! It's a funky cabin...
I'm sailing on the Epic in April and am extremely curious as to whether I will find her charming or bizarre, or perhaps both. Thanks for your video!

I'll be on the Epic in June and I'm assuming that we'll spend most of our time in port and not worry about the bizarreness.

@@MattsOceans I’ll let you know in December!
First ship I sailed on and got the cruise bug so can't be that bad
Indeed! Every cruise is a good cruise, but assuming you've been on others since I hope you'll agree that the Epic is a little different!
The rest of the ship is better than the cabin, I suppose 😄
Thanks Roger. You feel a bit boxed in when you're inside. But I guess its like an ugly house or car - you can't tell its ugly when you're in it yourself!
Hi I would never go on epic to dark in dingy overpriced in the shops as well, I’m bored
Fair enough!
lol any shop on a cruise ship is gonna be WAY overpriced..
Ship looks very dated. Dated pools and slides
Indeed - it would have looked good when it launched!!
