- World Champion and IDM Vlogger - Julia O'Rourke shows the proper way to do St. Patrick's day!! Note: There are slight variations within the trad sets so your dance school's version may vary slightly from this version. Questions? Ask your dance teacher.
I believe this is the Molyneux version of trad. St Patrick's day. I've wanted to learn it for ages so thanks so much for the video!
Beautiful dancer, effortless. This is so different to our trad set, but its so interesting to see others!
I love your St Patrick's day, it's way more interesting than our organisation's version but I still learned a lot from watching this!😊
for those saying this is not traditional, I think (think) this is the Molyneux version which is a trad set
Geez, I'm a beginner and it's taken me ages to learn the simpler version of St Pats. This would take me years. LOL. This is amazing and what I aspire to.
Her turn out is perfection. Love this so much! I'd go crazy if I got to do a set like this one!
You are amazing Julia.Congratulations on all your Championship's
It's neat to see different variations. Very different from mine :)
The version I'm learning is completely different to this. This is still interesting to watch because I learn a lot about things I do wrong watching others (like how to do it right LOL). But it's confusing to see a dance so different when they have the same name.
Are the steps for this written down somewhere? I would love to see this slower and broken down into a couple bars at a time! Thanks!
This is so good but is completely different from where I live
Ugh I wish my St Pats looked this beautiful
Ophelie Émeraude . It's not saint pats your ment to say paddy . All of us irish get really annoyed when people say this.
Saint paddy = saint pádraig
Saint patty is just wrong
Taisce Ryan, I completely understand babe, I just say St Pats because that is what I’ve grown up saying at my Aussie Irish Dance school, I’m not at all trying to offend anyone
This is the Molyneux (North Kerry) version of St. Patrick's Day :)
I was gonna say lol I was SOOOOO confused when she started 😳
Beautiful .❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Please could you do a video where you break down the rock. Ok to do in my soft shoes but struggling in my heavy shoe.
My teacher always said to get a chair and start doing rocks the same way as you would do so in softs. BUT, I'm a male and I have no idea if ghillies feel very different (which I can imagine, as my soft shoes just don't have the hard tip, but apart from that are completely identical to my heavy shoes)
I'm confused
I did trad. Set for St. Pats but I did it a totally different way. But that way is super cool
Can someone please definitively say what exactly this dance is and where it originated? There are zero similarities between this version and the version nearly everyone else does.
Was this created by Julia’s school as their special version for shows or practice or is this a legit version you can go and do at a feis in a traditional set competition?
jfeathe1211 it’s the molyneux version and yes it can be done at competitions :)
Amazing!
My daughter was marked down for toe stamps in her St Pats after having won it the four previous weeks so it'd be nice to know what the actual requirements are
Ours is :
Treble leap, treble leap, treble Leap, treble leap, treble cut treble hop back brush cut step brush cut step brush outstep kick up step brush Lep brush hop heel step treble Cut treble back back 234
Can you do the old one
That was sooo great!!!
Can you work on and break down job Of journeywork set peace
Where do u find ur St Patricks Day music because the music u use is the exact same music my teacher uses in my classes
What is the name of this irish song that she is dancing too. I can never fine it.
Well... that IS Saint Patrick's day for ye... But as so many different artists play this and all do so in their own way, none will ever sound exactly the same... If you are referring to this exact same version... I don't know unfortunately.
So this is a dumb question but I retired from dancing in 2012, and I'm just wondering did the CLRG change the Steps for this trad set? I've only ever seen the version that starts with four trebles.
Anna Kang I think they erroneously labled this traditional. The only part that's traditional is the music and time signature. Pretty much everyone still does the four trebles, brushwhips or brush kick outs. No primary level dancer could do these moves
Nope, you're right and I second Jennifer: I only know the version with 4 trebles as well (that's how I was taught) and I indeed think this is labeled incorrectly (which is a shame in my opinion)
Your right. This one is no where near traditional. The one you learned is trad. This is just made up.
So I am a self taught ID and Saint Patrick's Day is my set. I think I'm gonna use this one,but would it be okay to add a bit of toe Work?
If you aren't doing it in a competition, you can certainly add whatever twist you'd like. If you are competing, then we'd suggest consulting with a registered dance teacher :)
Thank you! I wont be competing with it,so I guess I can use this as a base!
Love irish dancing great lol
Hi I'm from a irish dance in Dublin I'm from emb irish dance acdmey 😃
That is not the traditional version it is the new new version because I live in ny and Julia lives in ny, she goes to the petri school and they all do the traditional version at the maro

wait... is this new for everyone? or just some schools? forgive me for the dumb question lol
There are slight variations in the trad sets depending upon dance school and dance organisation. Check with your dance teacher :)
Jen Odne certain schools
This ain't a slight variation, it's an entirely different dance.
Thats not Traditional.
It is, it’s just the champ version
what grade is this
Omg that’s completely different to our one ?
We the the Irish traditional one
That not traditional I know because I’m an Irish dancer from Ireland
Same
It is traditional, it’s a different version. There are a few. Schools usually stick to one version but there are actually many to choose from. Ask your teacher about Jerry Molyneaux
Our st patricks day set is completely different
I think I have seen you in a documentary
That is not at all how I learned it, but maybe it's a more difficult variation for advanced levels?
Megan Wooldridge it is an advanced set! I know because I dance at her school
Then this would not be a traditional set. It would be danced to danced to traditional Saint Patrick's music.
That st Patrick’s day isn’t right at all what is the foot slide thing ur supposed to walk four at the start on the right and then on the left
Just to check Julia wouldn't do this in competition would she? It's not traditional...
St Patrick's day dance should be danced the Irish way there shouldn't be any other way it's an Irish dance it originated from here in Ireland
I leart it different
That's very different from the trad set I dance
My st patricks day is different than the one you are doing julia
That's not how I was taught
there was no Rock in the set
James Gifford it is an advanced set! I know because I dance at her school
Ur in my auntie and uncles house
Loll,lolly
This isn't St.Patricks day, If anyone competed this, they would be disqualified
Chloe Woody it is an advanced set! I know because I dance at her school!
If ur going to show people how to do a dance learn to do the right steps
it is an advanced set! I know because I dance at her school
That is not the dance
Attention: this is not traditional
Taisce R actually it is. Molyneaux
I’m in open trying to learn this for a show… and omg it’s extremely difficult for me I can’t imagine an 8 year old doing this 🫢
That's not traditional.
Elena Robson it is an advanced set! I know because I dance at her school
