      I have heard of people having issues with their start file changing after they get into the game. The number one culprit is if you go into your graphic settings after you launch the game it will default Bloom and other settings back on because there is no setting the control panel to turn that off. That I'm aware of. Other than turning the graphics down to very low. In addition if you run into problems with this you can just turn the file in to read only but remember if you do this no changes done in the control panel will affect the startup file so you'll have to make those changes every time. So it's always better to use the startup file to make any changes and to educate yourself what each of the lines do within the graphics because that will affect you the most in the game. Quick hint zero is off one to three is pretty much the standard the highest level I have seen is four for the new Cloud settings and shadows. You can learn each of these numbers by going in and changing the settings within the control panel of the game for graphic settings and then see what that does to the individual numbers. That will give you their full number range since I have yet to find a post that explains this very well. If you know of one please link it so we can share it with everyone. If I get some free time I might actually make a video on that.

      I have your running a 2080 t.i. I would recommend running your resolution primary setting in the openxr toolkit to 70% to 80% resolution and then under the system's tabs make sure you have override resolution set to 100%. This will give you a much cleaner game and higher frame rates

    Just set my nvidia settings to those recommended and turned my monitor off when in VR. I’d actually reverted back to the earlier driver because it didn’t feel as fluid as my previous set up and Steam VR was kicking in again. Solved the Steam VR issue by uninstalling the 3Dmigoto file (VREM) using JGSME. Fired up into the sim with the latest driver and recommended settings. Very, very smooth, probably the smoothest I’ve experienced and I thought I had the sim tuned to perfection before.
    Running at 85% in the open XR toolkit in game settings. I have the settings on Ultra in the sim, running with and RTX 3080. I have SSAO and HDR off, grass on low, the 3ft high grass on the airfields is a bit much TBH. Another first class series of settings. 👍🏻
    After flying around he settings are generally working out well. However I’d advise against independently cranking up the settings in the nvidia performance bar. Use the tuning button, let the software work out the optimal settings for your card. Found that my FPS started dropping to half what I’d been accustomed to getting on a few occasions after shifting the power and temp sliders to the right. I re-tuned the card using the software and all was well again.. I get a steady 45 with MR on permanently, but fps was regularly dropping to 21 after cranking the power and temp settings to the right.
    Turning MR off gives me 60-70, but the stuttering is bad using my current graphical settings. A steady 45 will more than suit my needs 👍🏻

    The change in visuals after switching to Opencomposite/OpenXR with your recommendations in NVidia and OpenXR is quite amazing compared to my quite unoptimised SteamVR installation and settings. It feels like my Reverb became a Varjo, it literally feels like a considerable increase in resolution, which I did not expect and which is very impressive. However it does come at a (slight) cost in performance compared to my previous settings: I can't maintain 90 FPS in a low pass over Cologne anymore, which leads to stutter in that (particular) scenario. I may want to lower some settings to see what it takes to get back to 90 FPS in that scenario. Any recommendation what setting would be a good starting point which costs the least visual quality for the most FPS gain?

    • @davidwaVR
      @davidwaVR  2 роки тому +1

      The only way I found to get higher FPS over certain areas was to lower down the settings even more. In order to get clarity you're going to lose FPS the most important thing is how smooth is it when you fly over the city. Do you constantly get screen freezes and stuttering or micro screen freezes? As long as the FPS stays above 35 technically the eye doesn't see beyond that. The problem is is when you have two screens in front of your eye trying to trick it into a 3D image it does cause issues. This is why it is important to make sure whatever settings you're using that you start to decide what is important. The easiest way to do this would be to lower down anti-aliasing. Currently I'm using four times fsaa and you could go down to two times or zero. Msaa hits the system the hardest. Also you can lower down the sharpening. You can also decrease resolution. If you are expecting to get 90 FPS then you need to set your settings to keep 90 FPS which in my mind would make you a blind bat but whatever works. Laughing out loud. Remember the goal is not always FPS it's stability and smoothness while playing. A quick easy check is look to the left and right fairly quickly and if you get a severe stuttering effect you've got your settings probably too high or you're in an area that has a lot of preloading to the ram. Shadows and clouds are the largest culprits then you add in buildings which would have greater texturing requirements in a 3D image and all of the trees Etc. This is why original flight Sims were green grounds that had white dots appear as you got closer to the ground with blue skies with clouds painted on the sky and that's it. Welcome to the world of flight sims. The NeverEnding Chase for the Unicorn computer that can run every Sim at maximum settings and by the time you find that computer there's a new game out to keep you chasing. My goal is to get the best image while maintaining a playable gaming experience. which sometimes requires me to continuely search out new and better ways to improve the overall experience

    • @davidwaVR

      Also you can look at overclocking. This is one thing I do with my CPU and GPU to get the most out of it. In addition because I use an AMD chip I have enabled their ability to use my hard drive as additional processing space. Every tweak I could come up with and try I have pretty much done. It's also important for a lot of new guys who are reading all of this to check and make sure you're running the three extra background screens also known as Legacy in the windows mixed reality app under Windows 11 it actually tells you about the three pre-render screens. You can see this on one of my previous videos. And a warning to new overclockers you can introduce screen freezing and other issues by pushing your card or GPU too hard. So it's a fine balance and requires you to understand that sometimes you have to just back it down 10% and keep doing that until you find a good solid experience

    • @davidwaVR
      @davidwaVR  2 роки тому

      So I just had a couple people on the forms point out a couple technicalities to me and they also did some tests. If you turn the negative LOD bias from clamped back to aloud that can help reduce a lot of the stuttering. In addition you can lower your sharpening down to about 20% Which is default. The lower the sharpening setting the better the FPS will be in general because the card is not having to work as hard. I did test it with the settings in Ultra and on I saw some performance Improvement between on and ultra. You'll need to test that on your system to see which one works best. In addition if you have your settings to high vs performance in the Nvidia control panel for visuals then you do not need to have any of the performance adjustments turned on below. To improve AA in the game. I'm talking Graphics not AAA. Last and not least you can turn off a in the game. But I really enjoy the eye candy. I can get 90 FPS going over the city but I have to drop the graphic settings down pretty low. You can do this by just running motion reprojection. But the problem you're going to run into that is your prop and the airplanes in front of you. Because the game is not optimized for VR the prop under motion reprojecting causes a severe Distortion in the image. If you could turn off your prop Imaging it wouldn't be such an issue. But then you would be able to see your prop so catch 22 and with the new graphics updates it's even worse for motion reproduction. Also motion reprojection causes the airplanes in the air to be very warpy. Until you get in on their six. But then you're fighting with prop blurr which is exaggerated with motion reprojection and VR. I hope that helps I am working on running several tests this week on focusing for the highest FPS. But of course that means you're going to lose a lot of visuals

      Make sure you have all background apps turned off. In addition you cannot do anything while it's Auto tuning your card. See if it continues to stop that means you're having a power issue you might want to actually make sure each of the connectors are snug and secure because the card can run with one of the three not properly installed. Also make sure you're not using any other overclocking software at the same time other than your CPU. Same is true if you're doing your CPU overclocking. But I haven't heard of anyone having issues with that since the latest updates. Also make sure you have the latest update for the Nvidia control panel and experience. The last update for Nvidia experience app was on the windows store oddly enough

      yep. But some Win 11 systems and some steam players couldn't get the switcher to work without 1st replacing the DLLs for some reason. 1 out of 50 I have seen this be the workaround and no one not getting up and running doing it that way vs just the OpenComposite app. I hope the just incorporate this into the openxr app removing the toolkit need.

    Love your videos. I'm also using a reverb g2 with a 3080ti and i5 12600k on windows 10 and no matter what I do I have to down scale my resolution in open xr toolkit in game to around 60 percent even on the lowest graphic settings to maintain anything resembling a smooth experience. Seems like anything under 90fps will cause a lot of stuttering. Tapped out on ideas to fix it. Even disabled some obscure hololens reporting/tracing feature in app management someone recommended. I posted my video settings below, that would be all the in-game settings and of course I went through my Nvidia settings and the exact settings you saw while I went through open XR toolkit is what I am using currently. You would have to go into your game folder with the startup file, you will need to use wordpad or notepad in order to open it up. And then you can go through each of the settings. Your default settings that you currently have in game will be showing. If you do not understand this I can go through them quickly here. I set the distance to the maximum, I set the clouds and shadows to off zero or minimum, all the other settings I have set to maximum, ssao must be turned off, 4K textures is turned on, in game pre-sharpening is now turned off, after the latest game update it was no longer needed, and I'm also using FXAA four times. All of the settings of course are in my startup file listing below but I know many of you do not use that. You will not be able to turn off the bloom and a few other settings I have showing you in this video without using that file. Therefore you would not get the full setup to get the best experience
