      Would be cool to see a more random fight like the champs were saying. You could have four fighters get ready for a set date to fight at the same weight and have the fight random, they would know the other three fighters, but it would be impossible to train for all tree other guys.

    One of the most articulate fighters out there. I have to admit, before I had ever seen him speak I thought he would be a meathead, being a heavyweight fighter with the tattoos and the haircut, but then I started watching interviews of him and found out he’s incredibly well spoken and intelligent. Always enjoy his interviews.

    Frank Mir is a true strategist. You can just tell by the way he mentioned how his daughter was going to pursue wrestling instead of jumping right into fighting because the _window of competition_ was smaller there and something you have to do now or never (could return to fighting after). But the *BIGGEST* thing he highlighted was that it was not a step _backwards_ but actually a step forward because the big take away is that she will have a strong *WRESTLING* foundation. He emphasized it even more by saying if she did something like surfing that there wasn’t much that translates over to MMA.
    I like this take because I do this with a LOT of things. If I’m going to pursue something I intentionally *LOOK* for carry over skills. And I think that is something that comes to MIXED martial arts fighters (I am not one). Because you’re constantly mixing up your skill sets.

    8:22 that is so true. That is how I felt about grappling until I grappled with someone who had been learning it. The grappling aspect is just as important as the striking aspect.

    20:38 That story is slightly incorrect. What happened for UFC 151 was that Jon Jones was supposed to fight Dan Henderson. There were rumblings that Hendo was going to pull out. Eventually Hendo did pull out a few days before the fight and Chael offered to step up and replace him. Chael Sonnen and Dan Henderson were training partners and trained together at the same gym. Greg Jackson told Jon Jones that it's a possibility that Chael Sonnen has been preparing to face Jon Jones all along, knowing Henderson was going to pull out but that Jon didn't have the adequate time to prepare specifically for Chael, therefore UFC 151 ended up being cancelled. Dana White called Greg Jackson a sports killer, etc... it was a big deal at the time.

    I met Frank at UFC 37. He had trained Baroni for his fight. Frank was 2-0 in the UFC atcthat time. Bht he was very confident that he would be Heavyweight Champion. He was right!

    @bryanand2 Місяць тому

    Mir was like Romo, he was always predicting things before they happened in his WEC days. I also like how ruthless he was with submissions.

    Mir is the best and most dangerous heavyweight on the ground of all time. I really miss watching this guy take and put his opponents limbs on his wall😂 but it’s always great to hear from him he’s sharp and one of the best guests you could have.

    Frank Mir was an exciting fighter. He could KO you or break a limb. It was a joy to watch his career. Very intelligent fighter too. Always interesting to hear him talks fights.

      Exactly, Mir got a 2 year suspension after he popped for turinabol. The same gear Jones was using.

    My FAVOURITE heavyweight. I 100% agree on his take on being his own coach. This guy had HUGE potential. Imagine being a two-time UFC heavyweight champion. Not seeing your TRUE potential ✌️😎

    Franks the man! A true OG of the fight game and the dude was an absolute TANK back in the day, plus his BJJ was insane for someone his size. He was the prototype for a modern day guy like Aspinall. Frank's still super sharp and articulate too, its impressive 🍻✌️

    When he said three people can kick your ass no matter how big and well trained your are. That is 100% true. I got into a fight with three bouncers and was 6'0 240 at 15% bf and they fucked me up really bad. I never thought the boot print in my face would ever heal. It looked like I'd been in a car wreck. I've never lost a one on one but three bouncers fucked me up bad.
