I visited Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland last summer searching the origin of this song. This lyrics remind me of scottish folk song "The Water is Wide".

this song makes me cry every time i hear it because it's just so nostalgic. hearing this on the title screen of endless ocean was my favorite part about playing the game when i was younger. not only that, the song is about something so heartwarming and touching. i have tears streaming down my face as i type this. it's so beautiful.
