Thanks to the legendary Godfather of Soul, we will never have any band of musicians that can compare to Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and the world renowned JBs. Though some have come close, these guys will always be the very epitome of excellence.
Yep legendary horn sections,,, there were a few great groups that had tight azz horn sections back in the day🎉 and that made the difference to me,, like icing on the Cake,,🎉 but I’m a horn player, so I’m prejudiced,, dam!!!!😮😮
@@rodtrues1 Interested what you think of Lettuce? Not the same straight up funk, but HEAVILY HEAVILY influenced by JB at a very deep level. Hope you dig it! This recording is sick as hell! Fred and Maceo together is just so money. Zoidis from Lettuce gets my goat in the same way Maceo does but its obviously different.. but very reminiscent.
00:09 Blues For Shorty Bill' 06:19 Keep On Marching 14:12 Pass The Peas 27:31 Shake Everything You've Got 44:01 Cold Sweat 50:35 Doing It To Death 53:28 Make It Funky
Hahah half the audience is white, funk is part of what bridged the gap between black people and ignorant racist white people to realize hey, they’re just people who like to get funky and listen to James brown too. James Brown was actually instrumental in bridging that gap back then.
just awesome, all the musicians are fantastic, especially the bass guitarist, the guy is just great I, as a musician too, bow before such a performance
Have you listened to his album “Breaking Bread”? It’s the first vinyl I ordered for myself and still my favourite . In real life I only show people who are close to me because it’s very special to me, but I’ll help a funky friend online!
Thanks for this one. I was there and had a great time arround the age of 17. Listening to funk music at the North Sea jazz festival for the first time live. I wanna thank Macio for this and the band;-) KEEP GOING;-)
34:47, man there is just no end to Fred Wesley’s talent. Adding scatting to the song like that for the jazz festival -purrfect and he’s so amazing at it too. He blows my mind. Holy shit that was an amazing breakdown.
Amazing. Saw these guys at Blackheath Halls, SE3 about the same time 95/96? Amazing gig. Manager had to drag them off the stage around midnight. Can't stop the funk!
My goodness at least the is ONE (almost full) Maceo live performance !!! Why are they so difficult to find with that band set up ??? Jamal Thomas almost at his very best ... 5 Years later he'd kill it all during full concert !!!
Best performers i have ever seen and i have learned a lot from them. Thanks James Brown and the drummer and the keyboard player, resp. Melvin Parker and William Boulware. Thanks a lot and have fun;-) Greetings from te Netherlands Fred Wesley and Macio.
Preston is an insanely talented player. This guys timing and clarity on his playing is off the charts. I can't even begin to put it into words just how LOCKED DOWN this Wesley's playing. Guy's my hero.
The band is having fun,, and we love it,, a Real live band,,, rappers an Hip hoppers, learn some music theory b 4 u call ur self musicians,, respect ,,,,,,, love yourself and family , it’s 4:30 am here and I’m grooving,, wife is too,,,, love hearing them Horns,,,,,,,,
Just saw MACEO’s SFJAZZ performance 1/3/2015 on the app (on demand soon, I hope?) Many of these cats on stage -hot or hotter? than ever! The funkiest man and band on the planet
It‘s Natasha Maddison, Maceo‘s Manager since the early 90‘s, until the end. Unfortunately Maceo stopped touring. Well, with 80 years of age, well deserved to take rest
Это охренительно! Грув, подача, соляки, не фанк, а фанчище! Фред Уэсли удивил, разошёлся не по-детски, просто уничтожал и лишний квадрат даже сыграл😅 Ну басист Джерри Престон просто красава, вкусно играет

what would music be today without the 60s/70s (Ray Charles, King Curtis, JBs with James Brown, Soul, Motown) - unbearable. for me today as a musical alternative (not vocally) "Osaka Monaurail" from Japan
Jerry Preston added some incredible new life to these Jazz and Funk classics, showing a skill, range and timing that only a true Funkmaster can
Maceo Parker is the Charlie Parker of funk!!!Darn right, I said it!!! HAH!!! GOOD GOD!!!!
The most fun you can possibly have; Around 45 minutes is just insane!

Hi Sonny. Do you know why he stopped playing with Maceo ?
25:45 Maceo Parker annoucing they play 2% Jazz and 98% FUNKY STUFF... and the emotion he puts into saying "funky stuff" is exciting!
Ahhh thank you , you added to the goosebumps I got during that part! I wish I had funk friends locally
37:42 omg his saxophone skills are just…. I’m speechless I love Fred’s music so much
2% jazz, 98% funky stuff. Such a shame, all YT children will never see/experience a performance like this.
It is there to inspire YT children into creating new bands and keeping the funky fire alive
Hahah half the audience is white, funk is part of what bridged the gap between black people and ignorant racist white people to realize hey, they’re just people who like to get funky and listen to James brown too. James Brown was actually instrumental in bridging that gap back then.

i'd say Bruno is one of the very few guitar players who can do a rythm comp that sounds like a bass line but ON guitar !!!
Good to be alive ..oh ya..good day too all..pbg

James Brown (Superfit !) begins, then Van Morrison, then Maceo Parker. In the same hall. Fantastic !
34:47, man there is just no end to Fred Wesley’s talent. Adding scatting to the song like that for the jazz festival -purrfect and he’s so amazing at it too. He blows my mind. Holy shit that was an amazing breakdown.
