I am really enjoying your videos. This, the Sesam Stasjon and the Advent calendar videos are my favorites. After seeing this review to this film, I decided to look it up and I found that The National Library of Norway had recently bought out a DVD with English and Norwegian subtitles. I have been eyeing that edition for a few weeks since seeing this review and am hoping to pick that edition up (due to the fact that I don't speak Norwegian), because I think I'd want to make this film a Christmas tradition of mine (though I live in America but I love European cinema, and i usually watch 3 nuts for cinderella at Christmas time)
As for these videos I hope you can keep up the amazing work that you are doing.

      That's great, thank you :D
I'm so happy that the movie is finally available with English subtitles!
Leaving a link here for anyone who wants to get the DVD: www.nb.no/nettbutikk/produkt/reisen-til-julestjernen/?wp_lang=en_GB
It is a Region 2 DVD, so you'll need a player that is able to run it.
I have a lot of good ideas for videos that I hope I'll have time to make soon. As for now, my youngest kid is just 8 months old, so I'm a bit busy with that :P

@@sindrelfI just bought the DVD from that site yesterday (already knew about it before I commented.
This film is just the most charming non-english Christmas movies in my opinion alongside Three Nuts for Cinderella and Rock'n Roll Wolf (which alongside this and Cinderella, NRK airs at Christmas every year as "Med Grimm og Gru"). The Most Charming English/American Christmas movie for me, being a tie between Home Alone and Its a Wonderful life.

I accidentally met Hanne Krogh when I was a kid, we were basically made to go door to door for some sort of charity in Norway by our school to collect donations, and as she also has some roots in Haugesund, it turns out we found out where she lived, as she answered the door at one of the houses, I only remember her being really nice, and sporting that same smile as in the movie.
This was somewhere in the 90s.

Technically "Jul" is not from Christianity. The word we use goes back to the viking ages where it was the vikings hoping that the sun would come back.
This is because during winter the amount of time the sun is visible gets shorter and shorter, and it is at its shortest around Christmas eve.
But in modern times we use the same word to refer to Christmas.

This was a very interesting review and explanation to one of Norway's dearest Christmastraditios for getting in the right mood for Christmas. I will recommend everybody, who are not lucky to be norwegians, to learn the worllanguage norwegian in order to get most out of this fantastic film from 1976

Rolf Just Nilsen(Harlequin) was one of the best impersonators of his time. He passed away just five years after this movie came out from a heart attack.

‘Sonja’s Song to the Christmas Star’ performed by Hanne Krogh: ua-cam.com/video/ytMKOdOg-n0/v-deo.html
    English Lyrics:
“Christmas Star, can I have you?”
    Said a little girl once
    Would give a kingdom
    To know you
    “Christmas Star, go away!”
Said a bitter king much later
You became dark, and so did our times
    Do you have to hide?
    Christmas Star, come to me!
You have caused us pain and sorrow
Look, now I give you my heart
    Let me light you up
    Christmas Star, stay with me!
It is good to see you shine
    You must never disappear again
    Never forget about me

Fortsatt skikkelig creepy.
Probably also worth mentioning the similarity to the play-within-a-play in Hamlet.

It's called, in norwegian 'barnetro'. It is what is between a childs belief and and the cold truth. It's not as good as Astrid Lindgren, but it's up there!

I saw the remake and I hate it. Too much Hollywood.
