Scoping reviews are great fun to create, but can really challenge one. I recently developed some guidance for my Success Academy members because some of the were doing scoping reviews for their dissertations www.researchmasterminds.com/join-the-academy. Enjoy the journey lots!
I am wondering if I will use systematic or scoping review. I am planning to synthesize toxicology data from current literature published on a particular lake to identify key contaminants in this lake. I will then analyze the contaminants (e.g. heavy metals) to evaluate the overall concentrations against internationally acceptable limits.
What an interesting study! From shat you describe, a scoping review may be what you need. But once you read the paper that I refer to in the video, you may be more convinced which one is right for you. Also, finding some examples always help. Enjoy the journey!
I look forward to do an evidence systhesis of the available literature with regards to return to play outcomes (RTP criteria, RTP time frames, Strength, functional tests, clinical tests, etc) following groin injuries in sport. In this case would it be a scoping review? Since I am trying to explore the current evidence, clarify concepts and identify any knowledge gaps.. Would you please advise if it can be a potential systematic review or it will be a scoping review
You are asking a very good question. If you go to the description box on the video, you'll find references to very valuable reading material that will help you decide. Not being sure whether its a systematic or scoping review is a problem many experience. When you know more about scoping reviews it will be easier for you to decide if a scoping review is the right fit. I built a short course for the members of the Research Masterminds Success Academy to help them get op top of a scoping review. By the way, your topic sounds very interesting!
This video was very helpful. I am doing a dissertation using a scoping review but really struggling with the methodology

Thanks, Excellent explanation. which type of review most appropriate to apply on topcs of medical education teaching and learning?
