I keep mine around 2 o’clock to 3. That shape knob is so damn cool. Despite only being one knob, the versatility is absolutely mind blowing. I LOVE my Micro Dark. It’s an amazing amp. Next stop: Dark Terror, then the Dual Dark 50! 🤘🏻
They both sound fine, but I don't think either of them do modern metal tones very well. In my opinion, you're better off with the joyo zombie if you want that kind of sound in a mini amp.
Why not both? The Terror seems to have more midrange, whereas the Dark has more bass and treble. Pull back the gain a bit on the Dark, and pair them together. It could be a unique sound.
Emg(81/85 no tone pots, independent volume) through an orange micro dark(shape 11, gain at about 01)pushed with a boss sd-1 (level 03, tone at 01-03, drive off/a hair added) sounds alright through a celestion v-type speaker for drop B
This may be one of the best reviews ever made. Genius to give us exactly what we're looking for by showcasing the tone and gain through the repeating riff. Bravo!
They didn’t do a great choice for the EQ comparisons, they both have great string separation and sonic space, but they both have their EQ positions that they are not too favourable in.
Is there a way to have this amp playing along with mp3 or aux in? For home practice? I mean, maybe an audio jack adaptor with phones or something??? Thank you so much. Nice video
Lots of comments on how these things sound. To be honest they sound shit on this video if you ever get to play one the sound these things make will blow you away. I’ve only ever played the Micro Dark amp, The Amp styles you get using the shape knob 7-1 o’clock gives you Marshall through to Vox ac-30 tones past 1 o’clock you’re into Mesa/Fender amp territory. It’s got dynamic response when you switch over to your bridge pickup you notice a more dramatic change in sound compared to what you get with say a Boss Katana. The micro dark will do Blues right through to Metal like Pantera with all the AC/DC and Zeppelin rock tones in between. The amp will clean up when you roll off the volume it’s amazing how good they are for the money.
Those are cute. I run a main amp with a low volume dry sounding delayed low volume amp. One of those may be great. I'm wondering how the pedal versions compare to the lunch box models
So now they need to combine the two features of both and I'll pick up either one. I want the auxiliary in and the effects loop. Why would they not do that on both and just have the tone differences to pick between? I think I might be waiting for this to happen or pick something else up. I am currently looking for one, but want those features in a mini amp. Great comparison video, cheers!
Just FYI I ordered two micro terror combos for home and office. surprisingly and to my benefit both came with the upgraded micro dark heads with the fox loop!!! Is this the new normal for the micro terror combos to have the black heads with orange cab? Or am I just insanely lucky?
Also a Micro Dark owner here, and it definitely took me a lot longer to find that nice metal tone I frequently use than I would have liked, but once you've got the amp figured out it's a pretty nice little fella.
@@TheQwer176 The gain knob works in stages, so the more you turn it up the more distorted the signal gets. I prefer an actual dedicated pedal for it so I dont have crank the knob way up, but you can still get some pretty angry tones out of just the amp.
Gear of Gods why comparing the amps with different Eq? Whats the point of comparing after all? I laughed a lot at peoples comments saying "Micro Terror is more mid focused" when TONE knob on the Dark is at 0 while on Micro Terror dialled up. You normally do great shoot outs.. Shoot out again please with both clips same dialled up.
I have a Micro Dark with an upgraded Tung Sol 12AX7 preamp and it sounds incredible. The dirty tones are smoother than the Terror and the cleans are crisper and richer. Not to mention the buffered effects loop. For metal applications, it’s the Micro Dark for me all the way. That’s not to say anything negative about the tones on the Terror though. I plan on getting one of those eventually too!
I got the micro dark years ago (still my only gear, I’m broke AF) and I just plug my headphones straight in. TBH it’s good for doom/black metal and it’s got a warm clean. However, for shred and more staccatos and death stuff, it sounds like ass. Am I using it wrong? You got some pretty good tones.
I feel this. For riffs, grooves, and breakdown it's soooooo rad. Like you said for clarity on staccato and intricate stuff its muddy. Forcing me to play more clearly. Hooking up my eq and ts9 tonight off my gig board room seperate practice space. Fingers crossed!
@@RobbieTayVaughan Its a good practice amp for sure, not to mention for a cafe-jazz gig its perfect. Hopefully your EQ gives you some more flexibility on the lead tone!
Eq in the loop and a actually a turbo rat and ts9 in the in the front for dirt.let's me keep the amps warm clean. Also line6 pod 2 for fun effects and amps
You could totally have just used the headphone jack straight into the interface 😂 I do it all the time going from the headphone jack of my interface to the input of an amp for reamping (which basically the creating the same signal path but the other way)
You'd probably still need a reamp or DI box to match impedance, since the headphone output would be line level and an amp's input is instrument level or sometimes mic level
DerLokko1 I was waiting for someone to point this out, you can clearly see him hesitating to turn up the gain and shape knobs on the Micro Dark, but had no problem maxing out the gain on the Terror and turning up the tone knob.

You would just drop a pedal in front of it anyway. I don't understand why people get horned up over an amps gain. Buy an amp that has killer cleans, drop any pedal you want out there. I play heavy shit through a 212 Laney Lionheart's clean channel and yeah, I can play stoner rock to grind core. Gets really nasty with a Muff with a mid boost to take the muddiness out of it. That's why a Roland JC100 is/was so popular..
All of these high gain amps have way too much low end and sound flubby that needs to be eq’d to tighten it up. The dark terror is only if you plan to have money for that. I like the regular one much better. More control over tone and can get more gain with an overdrive pedal.
Hmmmm eq all the way down- if I hadn’t noticed that from the comments I’ve would have assumed that black one would have been less brighter than the white.
@@treyxaviermusic Interesting, where were they set? Because I know it's called the micro dark, but frankly, that sounded a little too dark in the mix. And I actually generally prefer darker tones. The EQ knob completely down on the micro dark for the full mix demo was a very bad choice...
On the dark I have my knob at noon or 1
Yup! It sounded pretty awful, I normally go for about 1:00!!
I actually like the knob maxed out believe it or not. The cut is really good

I don't think it sounds bad, but in the context of comparing it to the terror I agree that it was a bad choice
Why is the micro dark shape knob all the way counterclockwise? Completely unusable setting imo
thinking exactly the same
Yep, agreed. Makes no sense.
yo wtf. that thins it out but still ends up whoofy
When you said that, I felt it
During the tone demo, Gain up and tone at 11 o'clock it suddenly sounds awesome for a second. That would have been my choice.
way to make the micro dark sound like shit even though it totally destroys the terror if u set it up right
I missed ur riffage mang
How you all the way down here?
Hahaha this.is cool
Hes in every comment section
Micro Dark has an effects loop, the Terror doesn't in, therefore the Dark wins.
Deadmetal So is it possible to use pedals with the micro terror or not ?
Thriller_Musician90 it is possible but not delays and time effects when using its drive. Only as clean platform
@@thriller_musician9099 yeah of course just not through a dedicated fx loop

Eric Howell beartooth is so bad
The Micro Dark sounds great if you put an overdrive in front.

That micro terror is nasty. I LOVE that vintage midrange hump in its sound. Might need to pick one up
One of each and an ABY pedal. Awesome!
Micro terror seems to be a lot more mid focused with better string separation.
nah i think its because he turned the tone nkb down all the way

Which one is best suited to blues/southern rock? The terror right ?
Maxon od808 through the micro dark gives it that extra bite
