Such a great area(s) to see continuous trains with a wide variety of motive power, been to all the areas of Dolton in a one week period and photographed enough to fill 2 CD's.Dolton is one of my favorite areas. Your video is very well photographed with clear and sharp picture(s). Thanks for sharing, great job.
Great video. What a parade of power and rolling stock.Liked the HARBOR Goat! A really good job of moving all these trains through this Junction. Thank you for sharing. Good photography.
Sol: I've seen cow-and-calf lashups, a cabless unit called a slug, but this is my first goat. What's the difference? Does the goat have anything more than traction drives? What sort of control circuitry does it have? Or are all controls in the "mother" unit? Sorry for the mess of questions. Thanks in advance.
My wife managed a funeral home in that area. We're both licensed. I did calls for that firm. Sometimes, funeral procession s were held up because of the trains. I still enjoy train watching.
Excellent trains, excellent camera control truly professional and last but not least some outstanding vintage train car captures! long live the Harbor!
@14:41 is that like an auxiliary traction motor car, sans cab/diesel? Does it get power from the other diesels? Or is it something totally different? If anyone has some information/model numbers, im super curious and would much appreciate it!
Railfan heaven...dispatcher's nightmare. So many different routes in one area. The track schematics would be worth studying.Very nice post. One of your better one's
This spot is defiantly the honey hole for train watching!! A nice cigar and a couple of cans of cold coca cola and just sit back and enjoy!! Thanks for a great video!
Can anyone explain what that is in front of the two switcher locos and 14:40? If I were to take a gander, I'd say it was a sort of drone loco that responds to the needs of the other two?

Good video. I was wondering what those train cars we're at the end of the video. I used to see some of them on the Metra Electric District going to and from Chicago near, Riverdale IL.
David Barnett Oh anytime always glad to help. I understand and indeed I understand why you asked if it was. I have those cars in my collection and I live not to far from a Steel Mill. The cars in this video are 200 ton cars. I am pretty sure they are 200 tons. They are used to carry the molten steel to the Riverdale Basic Oxygen furnace plant. They are called Treadwell Riverdale cars. I have a tape with these cars before they got the red painted ends in Conrail days. :-)
my home town always nice to go home, sat at that spot off park st. many an hour, the large building by the water was a school around 1910. They had to close it because of all the train traffic and whistles
This is a very busy intersection, don’t ever get caught in this train traffic, because if you got to be somewhere, you are going to be late or miss your appointment, I have been in this area before and didn’t know what to do, until I called my friends and they said to go around.
I have been there twice and both times I never had to wait more than ten minutes for a train to come by. For a safe and great spot to watch there is a parking lot in front of the police station. Defiantly go if you get the chance!
But be ever mindful...Indiana Harbor Belt, and CSX/UP Police are always SOMEWHERE! Usually in unmarked vehicles...but I've met many that are nice and they just want you to be aware of your safety!
Railfans are generally well tolerated here as long as you DO NOT TRESSPASS. Stay in the police station parking lot or elsewhere on public property and you will be fine. There is a lot of railroad employee activity in this area.
Nice collection! I shared on my Railroad Auto Racks and Union Pacific Flag Units pages on Facebook. Invite you to share similar material on them as well!
THE PLACE...where people who live around there are so used to railfans, they just look at you like you are crazy for trains and leave you ALONE. Period.

Never been at Dalton junction but it's on my bucket list after watching this video. THANKS!
Wow, that is only forty minutes that is insane action. I never would have thought Dolton, IL was that busy. Great Video!!!

Like how it gets csx, norfolk southern, union pacific and bnsf action.
This is a feast for a starving railfan. Great photography! I've located some of these crossings on Google Maps for extra info. Thanks!
Great audio, some of the best I’ve heard captured on a video.
I'm guessing that CSX traffic is the line that goes through Fostoria, OH....arguably the busiest line in Ohio. Great video!
Railfan heaven...dispatcher's nightmare. So many different routes in one area. The track schematics would be worth studying.Very nice post. One of your better one's
There used to be another line there too,the former PRR panhandle line.
Wow 4004 same as a big boy 4004 amazing catch keep a eye out for the engine numbers
Love those Belt Harbor locomotives with a slug in the lead! Never seen anything like that before.
This spot is defiantly the honey hole for train watching!! A nice cigar and a couple of cans of cold coca cola and just sit back and enjoy!! Thanks for a great video!
I prefer a few doobs and a ice cold beer!😜
Nachtwolf, thanks a ton for all the new videos you've been cranking out!
2:04 another train is leaving! And that track quality is...Interesting
Can anyone explain what that is in front of the two switcher locos and 14:40? If I were to take a gander, I'd say it was a sort of drone loco that responds to the needs of the other two?
it is a dummy they usually use them just for the extra traction because they do have 4 traction motors but no diesel engine

Exactly where is the junction in Dolton? Looks like a great place to be. Thank you for an outstanding video.
I know this place is super busy but Blue Island has to be the busiest junction in the city right? if not the country
Blue Island sees traffic mostly from CSX and NS then IHB and ISIS being the least but one of the railways i believe is the same in Dolton, same tracks
thats right out of Bar yard
Good video.
I was wondering what those train cars we're at the end of the video. I used to see some of them on the Metra Electric District going to and from Chicago near, Riverdale IL.
Nice! Great catches on CSX and BNSF! Specially the SD80 the SD70 and the HLCX!
At 39:00, what type of 'tank' cars are those? Never seen those before.
Those aren't tank cars those are Torpedo or called "bottle" Hot metal cars used to carry molten steel.
EMDSD14R
Thank you. I've never seen those types of rolling stock, so 'tank' car is all I could come up with.

Wow ...fantastic catches there. The cars on the last train are slag dump cars.We don't see them here in Florida.Nice catch.SCL Pete,SCL ID# 175866.
All that unique action, I would have to bring a lounge chair and enjoy!!!
The very last train we see, has some wagons I have never seen before, what do they contain ….?
jørgen jensen molten slag from steal making if I remember correctly
my home town always nice to go home, sat at that spot off park st. many an hour, the large building by the water was a school around 1910. They had to close it because of all the train traffic and whistles
Hallo .Super Video , Torpedopfannen für Flüssig Roheisen mit Zwischenwagen ( Lastverteilung ). Toller Sound !
Werner Siever
Dolton Towers not there no more tore it down
Man why since 7 years no video, you did great rail faning and good contents tho! 😁 🤔?

So many diamonds on one location....dang....imagine directing that traffic
Or replacing some of those diamonds and delaying trains for 12 hours or more, then coming back to see the backup traffic.
Curious about UP 4058: is he lost? Just kiddin', but still curious. This is great. Lots of trains at this junction.
4004 is a rebuilt sd40-3 that was built from a sd40-2 and all of CSX's sd40-2's are now sd40-3's
This is some kinda super junction!
411! I’ve seen that unit. Marietta, GA
Neat stuff!
As long as you're on public property there isn't a thing they can do, and you need to let them know that.
Is it always this busy here? Where can one park to catch all this action? Great video!
I have been there twice and both times I never had to wait more than ten minutes for a train to come by. For a safe and great spot to watch there is a parking lot in front of the police station. Defiantly go if you get the chance!
Ok cool. I plan on it for next year hopefully
Great video! Are those slag cars at the end? (torpedo shape)
Awesome video
what address were u at via 9:40 ?
where is this
15:03 how is a road slug in the front?
Очень хорошее видео. Это просто супер этот перекрёсток. Мне очень понравилось.
The south side of Chicago in Dolton.
Great video!!!
if csx had leslie rs3ls or Nathan 5 chime horns on their engines they would probably be my favorite railroad company.
were you on public property, just wondering.
But be ever mindful...Indiana Harbor Belt, and CSX/UP Police are always SOMEWHERE! Usually in unmarked vehicles...but I've met many that are nice and they just want you to be aware of your safety!

Where is this? What City/State is it in?
Dan Fitzgerald
Thank you. It seems busy there.
0:56 anyone see those lines AFTER the NS. Maybe a mess up? Wonder why that happened
MBTA & More Productions what the hell are you talking about?....
what is the thing on the rail car called when you spin it two times with a rod?
jeff kimbro What?
I figured it out its a handbrake
jeff kimbro But what rod?
***** I haven't figured that out yet
+jeff kimbro It's called a brake stick.
THANKS, NACHTWOLF1!!!!!
Awesome video!!!! I bet this took 3 days to upload :D Would your recommend this spot?
The HARBOR Goat should have been SLUG! Very interesting lash-up!
Nice collection! I shared on my Railroad Auto Racks and Union Pacific Flag Units pages on Facebook. Invite you to share similar material on them as well!
just out of curiosity why is the video fuzzy sometimes and not others?
Good video, excellent location. To improve your videos, try some editing software and a tripod.
Very cool Nachtwolf!
2:03 looks like you just missed an eastbound
Love the CSX SD70ACe!
Very nice
Yes, it is worthy of it to look!
nice shot
good stuff
I like train videos with more engine units & less rolling stock. Some but not alot of lit.
Steel mill cars!!!
Great Video thats hella diamonds
csx 4004 has the cab of a GE dash 8 and a Emd body anyone have any info
It's an SD40-3, Custom made by CSX to replace SD40-2's
Awesome
What if you lost track of a blue container?.......mercy sakes they all look the same.
THE PLACE...where people who live around there are so used to railfans, they just look at you like you are crazy for trains and leave you ALONE. Period.
Don't see too many snub-noses anymore. (CSX 4004)
Wish they could turn the bell off!
Ya whats the CSX number 4004 pulling the mixed freight, that engine ugly
that is the new sd40-3 recently purchased from emd for csx a very costly locomotive.it is related to the emd family such as sd40-2 sd40 and so on
11:34 WTF
Get a tripod, dude!
