I lost my loved grandfather today and i thought of this song.
He was the strongest man i ever knew, he cheated death for 30 years of pain, he had scars all over his body from surgerys but he always kept fighting, he was always happy, always had the humor on top, he was a real survivor until this day 2017-03-07.
I will never forget you my dear grandfather, you was a real rolemodel.
You will forever live in my mind and heart until i see you when my time here is over

My grandfather died 06.01.2016. when he was 88. For me he was also rolemodel. He never told too much but when he spoke it was directly from his hart. We often had a beer together. I miss him.

First listen, instant classic in my mind.
Literally every song I have listened to by Future Island.
I have not purchased music in probably over 10 years.
Until today. Purchased all their albums.

Josh River hilarity! i often think about (I'm 44) how i used to...1st,.in early 80s-early 90s, lug around those wooden boxes of cassettes AND my extensive/massive vinyl collection everywhere i moved. then, one day i finally got rid of all the cassettes.. found a store that bought them all almost at like $0.50 a piece or something...i had thw complete lot of WaxTrax! and PIAS tapes of Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Skinny Puppy, basically every industrial band EVER. KMFDM, Thrill Kill Kult, etc etc...PLUS old school rave, house and techno, PLUS general 80s stuff ranging from Pet Shop Boys to Metallica, The Smiths, Dead Kennedys, etc...Then of course around '88, began buying CDs...of which I eventually wound up with about 10,000 compact discs.. Plus at the peak of my vinyl collection I probably had around 30 crates, the old Peaches Rrcords crates ..... and then starting in the late 90s thru 2008, sold ALL the vinyl AND compact discs. and finally now all I have is micro SD cards, MP3 stored on my laptop computer and phone, and to have physical copies I have every single song and album stored on 8 to 64 gigabyte external drives... WOW... what times we have gone thru!!! LOL

shanedangers lol..if I didn't know better I'd think you were stalking me. True story...you and I have alot in common. Im in my early 40s. I'm passionate music lover of lots of genres. I was literally listening to Ministry as I read your comment.
I also have kmfdm, skinny puppy, ttk in my play list. I also have a pretty extensive CD collection. No where near 10,000 but I'm closer to 3k. I own multiple albums from every artist you named except revolting cocks. I used to save those cardboard flats CD,s used to come in and coverd every inch of my walls and ceiling with them.
I can't let go of my CD collection. But it is a chore to move them all.
      Lol

Josh River WOW! LMAO!! - your stalker haha YOU Josh, have a great day!!!

As a 63 year old, I am partial to 70's normally, but they cracked the CODE. Brilliant lyrics and Melodies on many of their songs. Glad that I saw Sam dancing around like a funny guy on ACL, then I started listening to the music and never stopped.

I never met either of my grandfathers. One was killed in a landslide when my father was 11. The other died of lung cancer when I was only four months old. But I cherish their legacy. The first, Wlliam Fitzgerald, was the son of the first Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Edward Fitzgerald. The other, Reb Herschel Zukier, was a much loved and respected teacher in Konskovolia, Poland. Between the two of them they passed on a legacy of creativity, social activism, and spiritual teaching which I have passed on, hopefully, to my children.

I'm a blues guy, and generally can't stand synthesizers in music…but these guys have great soul and gravity. love em. The singer sounds like a man when he sings…so much better than most of the modern stylists. Great bass and drums, great melodies and meaningful lyrics.

A farewell. It truly is. How many times have I said this but to just go back. Far to many times to know this feeling right now is different. It's sad but not the pain isn't as deep or as painful as before.
Our nations Independence is approaching now. Less than a week away.
Far to many are acting and not believing.
    I am an immigrants son.
A United States citizen to two immigrant parents from Guerrero Mexico. From Aztec descent. A proud Aztec warrior and believer of its God's as well as a proud Catholic. I come from and grew up on black and white culture. Jazz, blues and rock and roll. All I can do is write and so I do.
I am proud to be part of this nation and what it stands for.
Hopefully we can show the nation indivisible by God. Show the world the birth of a new nation. United States of America as great as our nation has been there have also been many injustices done as well.
Far to many that just cannot be simply ignored.
The selfish, the greedy and the heartless are sitting to comfortably.
Their day is coming. Yet as our government currently stands falls way behind standards.
The one mistake was taking religion out of government. We ought to have constitutients that have love and hope of God in their hearts if they are to serve as part of our nation.
Why take that out? We are also putting faith and beliefs into things we have never witnessed or experienced before. Yes we read it or think it's in the Bible but you got to build faith, hope and trust on the tangible.
Otherwise if anything bad happens we can simply brush off responsibility and blame the promise that no one made to us but we believe it did so in the Bible and by God.
Nothing is ever going to get fixed if we keep blaming God. For one he never promised me or anyone anything. He never came before me and told me empty promises. My parents did. My pastor did. Yet how could God had told them anything if had not even been born yet.
The Bible is book of prophecies. On human behavior. We are that predictable. So Jeremiah 4 is actually happening right now. The cities have been abandoned. Lo and behold I look up into the sky and no light. Lo and behold I looked into the mountains and felt the earth shaking. It's currently Mexico and the mass leaving of its people.
As a woman giving birth to her first born is heard screaming. I am surrounded by my assassins.
God has not even been born. What a better way to keep him safe than the world do what it does best. Blame someone other than themselves. The guilty never go beyond the surface.
God has been trying and trying for thousands of years. Every one of us had the potential to be themselves. Rarely does any ever truly become self.
I have. I have been. Jesus Christ no he was alcoholic and had a foot fetish. I am lizandro salgado. A meth user. That's not right God or Jesus Christ doesnt do meth. How do you know?
For once try something different. All we have been doing is the same thing believing its the right way.
I'm saying it's not. Don't hang out with those people they are a bad influence. Then let me be a good influence on them. How is your thinking in any way selfish and just evil.
We are your over lords. Rip and tear every false prophet. Rip and tear where they called home including their children and anyone willing to defend these so-called kings.
My people are stupid and do not know how to do good. They only learned to do evil.
A reckoning is coming. Change your evil ways or when we come back you will regret ever becoming more than just a thought. Still here when we come back judgment will be upon your so called God, whoever mothered him will be trialed as well. Along with anyone who pushed this foolish agenda.
Watching an evil act and do nothing then you should not judge any anyone lesser than you. You are the low of lowest animals. True leaders with integrity can only judge even if he has to become God jury and exucutioner. Kill this man then only blame your ignorance for whoever long
Your suffering continues. So as long as the lowly creature drags his guilt and shame your suffering shall never end. We are leaving you to your own devices. Tell them whatever lie you want about defeating me. I leave you these so called riches to you and your people are the True rulers of these lands. Or until we come back to reclaim and fight what we have left you. I will return every so often if by the 3rd generation. Of the 13th Tracena of the holy dependent on every life on Earth. There will be no rest for you. Its always 5pm somewhere in the world joke here. 4 of my men will come to help you in your need. Name as you want they are powerful allies.
One of your allies has arrived. Corruption is conquest. You breed your own punishment. You create that which you seek to destroy. Yourself.
1+1+1+1+4=1 eat it nerds. I don't believe in equality, I don't believe in absolutes, I don't believe we should all be created equal.
The means that created you were the means that defined them.
Shell Shock. I am the first ally that was promised. War.
My wisdom here is to help out your enemy after a battle. You never win the war when you kill him and his home.
Hopefully in the next battle instead of dealing a death blow he returns the favor and helps you out.
Kill and just kill then read my writing above.

This song really hits home... I grew up in a small town and spent a lot of time on farms being babysat as a kid. Then I went off to live in the city and hang out with the weirdos at the punk bars. Still have a big place in my heart for my people back home, although it's been twenty years and I probably seem as weird to them as they do to me. Even so I know they'd welcome me in without hesitation for Sunday dinner.

Been a long time, in a low place
Surrounded by what I have made
    Need to get away
    Get away from what relates
    And what was done
    Cuz it's all over now
Through the woods, I come running to loose leaf
    And carve my name
In the lines, there's not a trace
I hear the ghost whisper, and those old eyes watching me
    But I feel safe
    Grandfather looking over me
    He said:
    Don't make them wait
    Gotta go a long way
    Let's be brave
    Don't make them wait
    Nah, don't make them wait
I sat down, with a coffee on my bent knee
Looking out, at the burnt land, looking back at me
These used to be green crops
And high on a summer breeze
No it's fallow fields and clear-cut barren weeds
They said that if I stared
The abyss would stare back at me
    So I did...
And I felt it slowly creep in me
Save for the smoke, that danced when I took a drag
It made me think about the way it all came to be
    Grandmama watching over me
    And she said
    Don't make them wait
    Gotta go a long way
    Let's be brave
    Don't make them wait
    Nah, don't make them wait
    Don't make them wait, nah
    Don't make them wait
    I hear the ghost whisper
And those old eyes watching me
    But I feel safe
    I feel safe

Reminds me of hanging out with my grandfather's. My parents would send me to help my grandfather Bill work on his farm in the summer. Learned so much from him. And during the school year I lived closer to my other grandfather. He was always working on something so I was excited and always wanted to help him out. I learned so much. Building and working on cars, this song brought back so many memories. Thank you so much. They are gone but never forgotten. Now I pass down what I learned to my kids or who ever needs help. We are all in this journey of life together.

Whatever happens i have prepared myself to face the impact. No longer holding the anxiety of the truth arriving. Fear of talking you will never let go of the pain. Stuck on that perspective so yeag it hurts relieving the memory but its like an acoustic guitar. You dont heal over the scar you develope callouses. Able to handle that feeling better and put it to use towards my anger. Pull the string back and just simply pulling back and not letting go

Every Easter, my family has a reunion at the family farmland, and it looks so much like this video. It makes me nostalgic to watch this video. The warmth and tenderness of the gathering in the video really shines through.

I never really knew my grandfather as I only met him when I was a small child and my dad had kids pretty old. I only got to know him through a series of posthumous letters he left me to read when I was of-age. I can't help but think of those letters when I hear this song...

So pure. So very true and from the heart. The optics of family and friends, not being afraid to share your values, this is what art really is. If only there were more of an appreciation for the feelings and morals this promotes . . . the world would be a better place.

I could write pages about what this songs means to me. To me, the song feels like it's partially about why the field became barren in the first place and part of it stems from not being able to express yourself for fear of making waves. He, and now me, is imagining what that must have been like for them to go through and then saying to them "It's ok. We can be ok. But we have to be brave or it will never work." And it's tinged with sorrow for them because they never really got to "Be Brave" for themselves while they were alive. The video just adds to the message. It's beautiful.
