Wonderful song and production...sonically reminds of New Musik which is a good thing.
Much love for the Album!!!
Hey guys you're awesome, I love your Indie handcrafted music and videos, so original, so authentic, so unique. You are an island in the ocean of commercial BS. Greetings from Colombia,
So dang good...
What an AWESOME video. ❤❤❤❤
Grandma.. I wish you were here for this … ❤.. I know you’re watching
real music, deep meaning
don't make em wait, lets be brave
First listen, instant classic in my mind.
Literally every song I have listened to by Future Island.
I have not purchased music in probably over 10 years.
Until today. Purchased all their albums.
good for you
D0wnshift uhg! now you're gonna have to lug an SDmicro card around with you everywhere...as if we dont already have enough to carry.
Josh River hilarity! i often think about (I'm 44) how i used to...1st,.in early 80s-early 90s, lug around those wooden boxes of cassettes AND my extensive/massive vinyl collection everywhere i moved. then, one day i finally got rid of all the cassettes.. found a store that bought them all almost at like $0.50 a piece or something...i had thw complete lot of WaxTrax! and PIAS tapes of Ministry, Revolting Cocks, Skinny Puppy, basically every industrial band EVER. KMFDM, Thrill Kill Kult, etc etc...PLUS old school rave, house and techno, PLUS general 80s stuff ranging from Pet Shop Boys to Metallica, The Smiths, Dead Kennedys, etc...Then of course around '88, began buying CDs...of which I eventually wound up with about 10,000 compact discs.. Plus at the peak of my vinyl collection I probably had around 30 crates, the old Peaches Rrcords crates ..... and then starting in the late 90s thru 2008, sold ALL the vinyl AND compact discs. and finally now all I have is micro SD cards, MP3 stored on my laptop computer and phone, and to have physical copies I have every single song and album stored on 8 to 64 gigabyte external drives... WOW... what times we have gone thru!!! LOL
shanedangers lol..if I didn't know better I'd think you were stalking me. True story...you and I have alot in common. Im in my early 40s. I'm passionate music lover of lots of genres. I was literally listening to Ministry as I read your comment.
I also have kmfdm, skinny puppy, ttk in my play list. I also have a pretty extensive CD collection. No where near 10,000 but I'm closer to 3k. I own multiple albums from every artist you named except revolting cocks. I used to save those cardboard flats CD,s used to come in and coverd every inch of my walls and ceiling with them.
I can't let go of my CD collection. But it is a chore to move them all.
Lol
Josh River WOW! Josh that is awesome. i confess i still have a few CDs. i think a few Peter Murphys, some New Order and Joy Division, and then some meh CDs that i couldnt sell but didnt wanna throw away like Cover Girls, Lisa Lisa, some freestyle, that oddly no one wanted!! LMAO!! - your stalker haha YOU Josh, have a great day!!!
trop trop bien j adore vivement leur venue chez nous
Damn good job! BRAVO!
Just fantastic listening
Grandes, muy grandes.
best band at all!! I always enjoy this band. love the craft involved, the authenticity.
Great band!! a unique style and the singer reminds me a little bit of David Thomas of Pere Ubu, he sings heart felt lyrics and that makes an important difference.
God damn I fucking love this band
Great human beings !!!!
jason park video part
Everyone looks healthy
Absolutely sublime lyrics. How could anyone's heart not be moved by words like this?
I lost my loved grandfather today and i thought of this song.
He was the strongest man i ever knew, he cheated death for 30 years of pain, he had scars all over his body from surgerys but he always kept fighting, he was always happy, always had the humor on top, he was a real survivor until this day 2017-03-07.
I will never forget you my dear grandfather, you was a real rolemodel.
You will forever live in my mind and heart until i see you when my time here is over
Future Islands has a way of helping you grieve in a very positive way. At least for me. Sorry about your Grandfather
My grandfather died 06.01.2016. when he was 88. For me he was also rolemodel. He never told too much but when he spoke it was directly from his hart. We often had a beer together. I miss him.
Respect to your loved ones impacting our lives forever
❤🇩🇰🙂
❤️
Imagine you're related to Sam and he brings his band to perform at the family reunion LOL.
First time I have cried in 10 years. Long live Future Islands
There is something that sticks with me from this amazing song and lead singers music, it's deep but very powerful and beautiful at the same time. A very unique song.
Who’s Still listening 2024 ?
👍👍
Been a long time, in a low place
Surrounded by what I have made
Need to get away
Get away from what relates
And what was done
Cuz it's all over now
Through the woods, I come running to loose leaf
And carve my name
In the lines, there's not a trace
I hear the ghost whisper, and those old eyes watching me
But I feel safe
Grandfather looking over me
He said:
Don't make them wait
Gotta go a long way
Let's be brave
Don't make them wait
Nah, don't make them wait
I sat down, with a coffee on my bent knee
Looking out, at the burnt land, looking back at me
These used to be green crops
And high on a summer breeze
No it's fallow fields and clear-cut barren weeds
They said that if I stared
The abyss would stare back at me
So I did...
And I felt it slowly creep in me
Save for the smoke, that danced when I took a drag
It made me think about the way it all came to be
Grandmama watching over me
And she said
Don't make them wait
Gotta go a long way
Let's be brave
Don't make them wait
Nah, don't make them wait
Don't make them wait, nah
Don't make them wait
I hear the ghost whisper
And those old eyes watching me
But I feel safe
I feel safe
Rose Muhdz a
4:36 gets me right in the feels. you can tell he's holding back the tears, as he gazes up to the sky as if he is seeing his grandparents right there.
homesick beyond words now, but still one of my favorite songs
I never met either of my grandfathers. One was killed in a landslide when my father was 11. The other died of lung cancer when I was only four months old. But I cherish their legacy. The first, Wlliam Fitzgerald, was the son of the first Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Edward Fitzgerald. The other, Reb Herschel Zukier, was a much loved and respected teacher in Konskovolia, Poland. Between the two of them they passed on a legacy of creativity, social activism, and spiritual teaching which I have passed on, hopefully, to my children.
Fantastic song, but I have to say that the best video for this song is still the one made by David Dean Burkhart, check it out. It perfectly captures the heart and atmosphere of this song by using old family videos... a definite must see.
FallHac You weren't kidding; that video is amazing. I teared up a bit watching it.
BucketheadChuck Felt the same watching it, it's truly something else...
FallHac TOTALLY TOTALLY AGREE HERE!!! also, this song is indeed very powerful in the feels. it makes me think about my own mortality and of course it reminds me of all four of my grandparents all of whom are now deceased and my God how I miss all four of them. it makes me sad in a way also because it makes me realize just how short and fast life is and I often think what it's going to be like 500 years from now... even beyond that... the history will be amazing or maybe not then that far into the future I doubt very seriously there will be Facebook then the people of 500 years from now will probably laugh at us having Facebook and social media back "in the now". where are we headed? Where are we going to? Does any of this really matter? I really hope that it does and I really hope that there is a next life after this one. that's how this song makes me think and feel
/watch?v=CM0mTqcTRBA for easy access to this emotional content. Feel free to feel!
This is the most wholesome music video/song i've ever seen.
This song makes me think of my children's great grandfather.... I LOVE YOU TATA.
Had a cricket and thought only way to beat them was to join, them. Looked up cricket songs. This was the first song on cricket playlist..the cricket was dancing in the middle of kitchen and able to let outside and now I play for then 😅😅😅😅and found this song by future island
Thanks, now I have to look up a cricket playlist...
This song really hits home... I grew up in a small town and spent a lot of time on farms being babysat as a kid. Then I went off to live in the city and hang out with the weirdos at the punk bars. Still have a big place in my heart for my people back home, although it's been twenty years and I probably seem as weird to them as they do to me. Even so I know they'd welcome me in without hesitation for Sunday dinner.
I'm a blues guy, and generally can't stand synthesizers in music…but these guys have great soul and gravity. love em. The singer sounds like a man when he sings…so much better than most of the modern stylists. Great bass and drums, great melodies and meaningful lyrics.
diddo
+Stanley Milton well spoken!
I don't think I have heard one of their songs that isn't meaningful...
agreed.
Instrumentation doesn't make music any more or less "real". Marble House by The Knife is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and it's purely electronic.
*RIP ARTHUR RAY GARCIA* May your memory always live on through this song...
Love ENRIQUE MENDOZA ♥️
I've been a fan of Future Islands for a while but just now stumbled across this video. It took me back to the days when I'd watch MtV and watch music videos until the wee hours. Some would stick with me and I'd want to see them again right away. Well back then you'd have to be lucky to catch it again. Now I'll just hit replay. Love these guys.
Every sight and sound of this video moved me. Thanks FI.
Great song! Back In The Tall Grass is for me the much better song from Singles.
Greetings from Peru.
Such a great song, almost three years ago my Granma passed away, It's been a shadow time for me, but I'm now reframing all of this, thanks for this song, my granma wanted me to be brave and strong :D
great song and superb clip, love the sincerity.
You guys give me so much joy! Thank you for being you! Rock on! xoxoxoxo Amber
Simply a fantastic song and a video that does the song justice. Beautiful and poetic. Well done.
Quite simply one of the most beautiful song/video combo's I've ever seen. Cried my eyes out on first listen
Goddamn this is so good. I have loved the song, love it even more after watching this video. So real.
As a 63 year old, I am partial to 70's normally, but they cracked the CODE. Brilliant lyrics and Melodies on many of their songs. Glad that I saw Sam dancing around like a funny guy on ACL, then I started listening to the music and never stopped.
Really great video for this amazing song! Wish I was at the party!
The best part of this video are the expressions of love and pride and adoration on the faces of Sam’s family as they watch him and his band perform.
That was beautiful, guys! Glad to have a vid for this powerful song & I feel honoured to have gotten a little more insight into your lives- thanks FI.
I heard this song for the first time two days after my grandfather passed, this song is fantastic
awww jeez, now which version do I have on my playlist?? The "un-official" video is so excellent it makes me cry, but I love this one too. Best to have both I think!
Absolutely AmAzInG song 💜💜 How in the world do you guys come up with the most beautiful beats to your music........
Absolutely breathtaking song
J'aime ce groupe.....cette voix.....leurs musiques.....les mots ajoutés qui savent toucher. Merci l'artiste.

Just discovered Future Islands...I heard this song and spent a whole work week trying to discover who this was. Seriously, my new favorite band. Will watch for shows in Dallas and tell everybody I know to check these guys out. SO FN AWESOME. Best of luck to these guys.
this
This Band 'Future Island' I apologize to those individuals who like this BBBAND. Although I would'nt expect a No.1 Hit soon or in the near future. 'Rubbish'! Take Care Friends: 🇬🇧 ®️.
Reminds me of hanging out with my grandfather's. My parents would send me to help my grandfather Bill work on his farm in the summer. Learned so much from him. And during the school year I lived closer to my other grandfather. He was always working on something so I was excited and always wanted to help him out. I learned so much. Building and working on cars, this song brought back so many memories. Thank you so much. They are gone but never forgotten. Now I pass down what I learned to my kids or who ever needs help. We are all in this journey of life together.
I want a hug
I think I could cry watching Sam make pancakes. The second he starts crab dancing, I lose my shit.
Awesome! My heartbeat slow and my mind flow through e the times until the grandpa and grandma souls when i ear this song. Thanks to give us this energy!
Work hard and be blessed. That’s what I see in this video. I like them. They are good people. It’s refreshing to see this. I’m thankful to be a fan
Fuck this shit is dope
The imagery is haunting, and these wonderful waxes of texture are washing over me...
Perfect.
Still WATCHING..
It feels good. I've lost grandparents and they were the best to me. I wish they could have met my children. How they would have loved them. Hearing this song gives solace.
