Arn has since said that his leaving had nothing to do with Tully putting the mouth on Dustys booking. It was because Jim Crockett promised him 25,000 for Starrcade 87 and he got 12,500

As much as Turner liked Flair, I feel like this should have been Luger's crowning(and they could have had Flair win it back)

There was an interesting podcast with the guys basically saying that Luger losing the title too quickly started something that lead to WCW's collapse. It was such a feel-good moment and it's like when you go against that, you go against the fans' will. You lift your nose at them.

Johnny Skinwalker- I think you're referencing the Bryan and Vinny Show podcast.

@@MrDinghus He never should have won it in 97. Sting-Hogan was everything. They had been booking everything for about a year and a half to give rise to that mega match, which was probably the hottest angle in wrestling.
Hogan needed to be this long reigning evil tyrant going into the match for Sting's victory to have the meaning that they wanted it to have. It doesn't work if Hogan isn't this long reigning champion.
As over as Luger was during this period (and he was really only that over because they were booking everything for Hogan-Sting so Luger was the only good guy left by default), that belt should have stayed on Hogan. But even taking it off of Hogan, you had to put it back on him ASAP so it just becomes a momentary set back in his evil reign, thereby still setting up Starrcade.
