THANK YOU for this video! I lived in Memphis for seven years and one of my favorite things to do was search out and try all the soul food restaurants I could find - there are so many! - but doing this requires: 1. a sense of adventure; 2. a love of food; 3. a willingness to get out of your comfort zone and venture into different neighborhoods; 4. a genuine enjoyment in talking to and learning from people; 5. a love of food!! I hope you continue making these videos, and as I haven't been back to Memphis since August of 2019, I just wanted to share that some of my favorite places were The Choo, Alcinea's, Daisy's, Miss Peggy's, and a restaurant on Route 61, right after you passed into Mississippi. It's a hot-wings place and I can't remember its name - I also don't know if it or any of the places I just listed survived the Covid pandemic and didn't close. If they're open, I really hope you get a chance to review them, as I'll definitely be watching (from here in Shanghai) and enjoying the memories as I do. Thanks again!

I worked/and lived in the Hood . Across Bladensburg rd from the National Arboretum and there was a soul food place a block away. They had bean pie. Ever heard of bean pie ? It a treat . It's like pecan ( pea cam ) pie but you get more. I find Bean pie in Prince George's County across the border from DC and at a roadside stand outside of Baltimore. Oh and I love snow cones too red color call it cherry or whatever as long as its red
I once went to a pizza joint in Baltimore on Charles st that served bean pies. They’re actually well known up there(I guess because it’s more of a northern city and has a bigger Muslim population. DC reminds me more of the south).

What up Ian, Thanks for watching!! Well, I got a few suggestions. First, one of the best bbq spots in town is the A and R BBQ on Elvis Presley. I grew up eating there and the food has always been great. The Four Way grill is a great spot too. I hadn't eaten there since I was a kid but the stories that place has are great. It was a safe haven for civil right leaders to meet and eat! I am sure you have had Dixie Queen and Jack Pirtles!!! Corky's on Popular is pretty good. I usually get their BBQ nachos! If you are into chicken wings, Ching's on Getwell is pretty good, Dbo's of course and my favorite is Crumpy's! I get their honey gold wings with Fried green tomato. If you are into Fine dining, Flight is by far my favorite spot! Gus fried chicken is really good but Uncle Lou's on Millbranch the bomb!! I hope you enjoy the city. I now live in Baton Rouge and loving this food down here but it still doesn't compare to food back home!!

Hey hope I didn’t catch you to late! Try Chings hotwings on Getwell! Get honey gold and honey hot wings. Of of the place in the video 1499 south 3rd street. A&R bbq on Elvis Presley that’s real Memphis bbq. The four way grill is also a good spot! It’s where a lot of civil rights leaders would eat when they came to Memphis. Hope this helps!
Hey thanks for watching. I understand your concern. Nothing has ever happened to me when I lived in Memphis. It was when I left that’s when I got robbed, fights all the negative. Whenever you go back I’ll give you some recommendations to stay
Memphis not Nashville is the Real Music City. My Cousin said the worst two weeks of her life was when she moved back to Nashville from graduating the University of Memphis. 😂
I had to comment on this. I went to that soul food place before and i rather have peggy. Most of these soul food places do have bad days so i give that place a pass. The food scene is exciting though and i barely eat.
I agree mane! I think most soul food place miss the mark when it comes to consistency! But try Daisy’s right down the street from that place! I have a new video of hood eats in Baton Rouge coming soon, stay tuned!!
I’m sorry to say this but Chicago has the best food hands down. I live in the south but born and raised in the chi and we have foods there y’all have never heard of or had
Absolutely not but I understand! I lived across the lake in Kalamazoo Michigan and often went to the Chi. And I wasn’t impressed. A few Jamaican spots in Hyde Park a few other soulful restaurants near the area were just OK and I would for sure visit them again. If you’re from up north your taste buds are gonna be set a certain way, vice versa if you’re from down south.
Boy y’all ain’t got TexMex Creole, Cajun, KoreanSouthern no good wing spots, no authentic soul food, no Cuban food no Haitian food, no BBQ like Memphis Texas and Carolinas. Nigga stop the cap all y’all got in Chicago is hot dogs pizza and sandwiches that shit is not “Authentic” to us Southerners that’s lunch food to us. Chicago don’t have Chicago food all y’all shit come from somewhere else. We have foreign spots PLUS different styles of authentic Southern food. Name one restaurant in Chicago I can find TexMex and Creole food? Or even good authentic Soul and BBQ name me one Chicago. Y’all ain’t got nothing on southern cities. Man please
WHAT.. no piccadilly, no tops bbq? but i'm not from memphis so what do i know, those are my go 2s when i visit. i don't leave without a tops bbq combo for the road!
Lol gosh no! Mane I hate tops cold sandwiches!!! Try A&R bbq on Elvis Presley and Piccadilly is the worst!! Let me know when you go back I’ll give you some recommendations!!
Yea I’m a south Memphis native as well south parkway and Orleans. There are several other places that might have what you like. Daisy’s up the Street, I’m not really a fan tho. Most soul food places lack consistency so I definitely understand. Since I left Memphis I’ve live in Montana and Michigan and there were noooooooo soul food places mane. So just visiting home and eating any soul food is great for me! Preciate you watching mane and throw me some recommendations of places I should try when i comeback.
Depending on your career Memphis is a great place to live. Like any place it has its problems. Crime has risen in the past years tho! I would move to like a Collierville, germantown, Rossville, midtown Memphis or olive branch Mississippi!
I have family that live all over Nashville they have crime just like in Memphis don’t matter where you go.. you can’t run from it just gotta know how to stay outta high crime areas..
@@kimerietate8372 How you gone tell me everytime I visit Nashville something happen shit don’t happen out East Nashville, North Nashville out West I know crime happen in Antioch I don’t know where you live but I know the areas where shit happen at they killing, Robbing and Car jacking dnt act like Nashville all that
All of this food is disgusting and I get so much criticism because I don't eat that way 😂. I did when I was a kid but as an adult I know it's unhealthy. Memphis people always focus on what Memphis used to be. That's because it doesn't have a bright future. All they do is hope and pray smh. Sad place. Coolest thing about this is the baby rockin the Concords
you eat fast food? Candy? Drink? All that’s unhealthy when you over so it same with so called healthy food options. Our cultural foods have been demonized for years. Kale is no healthier than collards and the lost goes on. I wanna say more but it’ll be pointless. Be blessed cuz!🙏🏾✝️

Hey thanks for watching. I understand your concern. Nothing has ever happened to me when I lived in Memphis. It was when I left that’s when I got robbed, fights all the negative. Whenever you go back I’ll give you some recommendations to stay
@@tvtwood cool!
Shiddd u see y DeBo's don't get talked About. High Ass Food. J J's fish and chicken in Elvis Presley BLV across from McDonald's. The spot
Yea they are high as hell!!
Memphis not Nashville is the Real Music City. My Cousin said the worst two weeks of her life was when she moved back to Nashville from graduating the University of Memphis. 😂
Mane I went to Nashville once and didn’t care for it. 🤦🏾♂️ if it ain’t Memphis ion care about the rest of Tennessee lol
Man please
isnt dbo's gone, everyone i went to is closed
I don't think so! If it is that's new to me. I preciate you watching.
Hi Brother i see from Tijuana Baja California México
Thanks for watching my dude!
Wish the Easy ways didn't close
Me too! I have vivid memories of my great grandparents taking me to the Cooper now it’s a Hattie B’s hot chicken junt!
WHAT.. no piccadilly, no tops bbq? but i'm not from memphis so what do i know, those are my go 2s when i visit. i don't leave without a tops bbq combo for the road!
Lol gosh no! Mane I hate tops cold sandwiches!!! Try A&R bbq on Elvis Presley and Piccadilly is the worst!! Let me know when you go back I’ll give you some recommendations!!
Tarvarious Haywood exactly, cold sandwiches, bland mayonnaise dressing slaw and and tasteless cheap sauce, a wrap!
My best place was Cozy Corner on AJ Willis I think’s the street(been 2 years, only stayed for 6 months).
@@tvtwood if you're ever in nyc, the #1 joint for soulfood is "the fish house" aka rcl in queens.
@@roderickstockdale1678 mane! My great grandparents use to love it! I told them when I was a kid that place was nasty lol
Why are they so loud when they talk ? It is also missing somethings I did not see a single car jacking and there were no gun shots !!
I have no clue who you are referring to as “they.”
Have you ever been to any of the places in this video? Have you been to any of the hoods, anywhere?
I love crumpys
I can't wait to get back to het more honey gold wings!!
That baby smell that food
Hey what’s the name of that place I’m in Memphis all the time.
Are you talking about Jerry’s sno cones?
@@tvtwood no the last place you all were in with hot wings. I just left Memphis live 30 year never saw that place. What’s the name?
@copperessentialherbalprod9126 it’s called Dbo’s. You should try Crumpy’s, Chings, or BJ’s. They all have good wings
Food looks horrible I c y they don't talk about it my brotha
Wings look goooood thoe foreal
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
God damn food is cheap down their
Hell yea mane! I have a new video of hood eats in Baton Rouge so, stay tuned!!
I AM SORRY TO DISPUTE U BUT THE FOOD IN THAT PLACE IS OVER COOKED UNDER SEASONED AND TO EXPENSIVE. THIS IS COMING FROM A MEMPHIS TENNESSEE NATIVE.
Your making want to leave Nebraska.
You can leave Nebraska, but Memphis is not safe.I'm from Memphis, but moved to Nashville in 2015, and I love it.
@@leejones4146 Nashville doesn't have crime "just like Memphis"-that's absurd.Nashville just got a SoHo House.
@@kimerietate8372 How you gone tell me everytime I visit Nashville something happen shit don’t happen out East Nashville, North Nashville out West I know crime happen in Antioch I don’t know where you live but I know the areas where shit happen at they killing, Robbing and Car jacking dnt act like Nashville all that
Dude most definitely aint from memphis 🤣🤣🤣 and these are not the REAL elite hood spots
Ian gotta prove to you where I'm from mane! I promise I don't. Keep playing your games dude.
