Im a reading specialist K-3 looking to tutor in this area. Now im a stay at home mom looking to make a little money on the side. Thank you for this video!!!
Customer satisfaction is so important. Many businesses grow through word of mouth, and by wowing your clients they are likely to refer you to others. For my brief stint as a private tutor, I was able to build a network by having clients share the word with others. I offered services in general homework prep and test revision, but specialized in math to start. Thanks for sharing some great tips to start a tutoring business!
Great video, and congratulations on your success! I was a UGA Peer Tutor in English, Chemistry and Physics. I am now a published attorney. I am transitioning my practice into a different area of tax law over the next 12-18 months. My tutoring niche will be English Composition for high school and college students.
Just retired as a teacher. For some extra travel money, I'd like to start tutoring foreign languages and history, and I'd like to include my wife, who is an incredible Reading teacher (elementary, retired). Thanks for the video, because I'm just an old fart and need all the help I can get. I took notes on your video, and I'm on it. In addition, I'm a former Marine. I can do this.
I mean the dream work most of all, I've been doing that my whole life, quite a lot happens there very few people find out about. I wonder if people would pay to have a guide then.
Hey, Will! This video has by far been one of the most informative yet entertaining videos I’ve seen on the topic of tutoring. As a high school sophomore who wants to learn and achieve starting a business on tutoring specifically for grades 1-8 in math and science to gain experience with that as well as revenue generation, but my only obstacle is initiating the idea with the small steps included. Is there a certain way to start a tutoring business, what do I need to do? What are the steps? I am in Canada and have read the laws for a sole proprietorship. Is there a certain business formula that I need to follow?
No formula -- boiled down to its simplest steps are: 1. Build a funnel for leads (I.e. how are people going to discover your tutoring services) 2. Provide an awesome service 3. Get reviews / testimonials and ask for referrals 4. Grow your tutoring biz
Thanks Pal. Started up this home tutoring program and I find your contents so helpful for my project. Just a question to ask . How do you advertise your products and get more customers as a start up
Hey, Will. I really enjoyed this video. This is my 33rd year as an educator. I have been a school counselor now for 12 years. However, I taught 7th grade English/language arts for more than 20 years, and I still have that passion to teach. I have contemplated online tutoring for some time now. I only want to tutor middle school language arts, but not necessarily middle school students. I know there are many adults who can benefit from learning the basics as well. Subject-verb agreement, proper use of grammar in writing, etc. What do you think?
Hey Will, what's up. I'm a high school student right now, and I I don't really know the legal applications of starting a business. Do I have to get a license or register with the government anywhere? Do I get taxed when I make a certain amount? This is all pretty new to me and your input on this would be great. Thanks!
Really depends on where you're based out of! If you're in the United States, you can start as a sole proprietorship. As you level up, you can register for an LLC or other corporation.
I'm only 17 but I would like to start tutoring for younger grades for Maths, Biology and Geography. Since I am just starting what grades do you think I should start tutoring from? Also any tips on tutoring younger kids?❤✨
Tutoring younger kids is all about patience and enthusiasm. Be supportive when working with them and help them work slowly through their thoughts. You should start tutoring elementary school kids since the subjects are easy to pick up on what you may not use regularly. It’s often down to your tutoring style and ability to build rapport that parents will come back to you as clients.
Good afternoon, thinking about starting up a tutoring program at a Starbucks or Panera Bread as you mentioned on the video (for next school year). I am an AP US History teacher and a Cambridge US History Teacher. Any additional tips? Thanks for the video, very informative.
Awesome! Best of luck. I'd start with potentially reaching out to some local area APUSH teachers to see if they're able to share your contact w/ their students that may need extra help.
Hey Will! I’m currently a high school sophomore that wants to add something to make my college application stand out, and I’m really hoping that this could be it. I’m great at Math and I would like to tutor kids around grades 4-8 in it, but I’m not sure if doing this will help me stand out to colleges or if it will be a good thing to add. I also don’t know all the specifics into starting a business, do I need to get it approved from the government or something? Or can I just start it? If I do, what exactly is the process? Lastly, do you have any tips on how to stand out to colleges if you don’t think you’ll be able to be a club leader or get any awards?
I don't think tutoring itself will make you stand out, but starting a business could. You can start as a sole proprietorship before you grow. Look up your local city / town laws for starting a business there. Standing out for colleges is all about positioning yourself to be as unique as possible. Do interesting things -- and share your intellectual curiosity through your personal statements.
I'd like to tutor Math Online - foundational Math. I have about a decade of experience as a Math teacher. Additionally, I can tutor ESL online and possibly mentoring Job/Life skills online. I have about 5 years experience teaching ESL abroad and also have mentored young adults for about a decade on employability and life skills. I've posted an ad previously on Craigslist to gauge demand and only received one response. This was just for Math tutoring. I'd also like to know what are some great tools to use for online tutoring? For example, with Math I'd like a Whiteboard with Math related tools. I know of a few but am curious to know what you recommend. Thanks
im interested in setting up tutoring and creating electricity, electronics, digital electronics, catv theory, and field service for adults, targeting business that hire technicians.
Good Video. I wish to coach on Android Application Development. Being a developer for the past 6 years, I think I can help aspiring students to enter the industry.
I can't say I have much experience here; but best of luck! I'd reach out to folks who are already running groups similar to what you want to make and see if they'd be open to you connecting with them for a half hour or so.
Hi Will, I’m interested in starting a tutoring business focusing on students with Dyslexia! I am a 20 year veteran teacher with a Master’s Degree and a focus in reading! I’m wondering about if I need a business license through my city/ state for this type of company? Thanks Teri
Hey man I want to start an online Tutoring business on the following subjects MathematicalLiteracy , Geography and businessStudies but I am struggling with marketing and pricing please help me
I HATED being a tutor. People guilted me into it every single time. None of my customers ever helped me with anything the way they said they would. Trained educators are underemployed, and I sincerely think they deserve those jobs.
@@GrowWithWill I was never interested in tutoring. People only pushed me into it. And THEN they acted like shitty customers. I want teachers to succeed at their work, and I don't want to go around pretending that I am one. It's just that kids like me, because I'm nice to them. That doesn't mean I would be a good teacher. My stupid family tried to make me be a teacher, and some of them absolutely lost their minds at me when I simply didn't do it. I live in a strange town, but I've also had similar experiences in other towns. Please don't let your pupils grow up to become enstupified like the rest of us are.
@@GrowWithWill LOL. Once when I quit a tutoring job, my girlfriend at the time was momentarily gung-ho about me going and working with her at some youth program or another where she worked part-time. When she told me that, I flashed devils-horns at her and said I was going to make the kids listen to my metal albums every day. She backpedaled on that idea, really fast.
@@GrowWithWill LOL. Now the government is asking young war veterans to look after other peoples children. I can tell you from personal experience that the next batch of children are going to be very traumatized individuals, when they come of age.😄
@@GrowWithWill The biggest thing of all which steered me away from child-care my entire life is that parents won't compensate you for any of your valuables which the kid happens to break, even when they clearly have the money. The fact that they want to pawn their child off on someone else in the first place should be a red-flag for anyone.
Youre thinking too much. Were in California. So i know the requirements bc my daughters attend higj school. Still cant answer question? Its ok if u dont know. Usually theres one more in demand so it dont depend. Good nite
You're potentially thinking too much. Why wouldn't you just position yourself as a general math tutor that can cover grades 6-12? That'd cover all the topics you referenced. It does depend -- some states have graduation requirements for Algebra vs. other math subjects.
No. I asked a simple question. You thinking so much that u didnt answer it. Just high school tutor us enough not 6-12. Never mind and ill do my own research. Have a good day. End of conversation. 👍
Wrong again. Reread my question. U didnt specify Álgebra was on top but now u did. Ill do research with someone w/ more experience. You R too young. Thx for your answer now and thx for not replying anymore
In response to your direct question on what would be the highest demand, I said Algebra will always be high demand, specifically Algebra 2. It may be helpful as you research with others to not be so confrontational in your responses. You'll get more help that way. Have a nice day~
