The 1996 NBA draft class was one of the most legendary draft classes of all time, with the Philadelphia 76ers drafting Allen Iverson, the Milwaukee Bucks drafting Ray Allen, the Los Angeles Lakers drafting the black mamba Kobe Bryant, and the Phoenix Suns drafting Steve Nash. However, the Golden State Warriors weren't as lucky in the 1996 NBA draft, drafting NBA player-turned-pastor Marcus Mann, who refused to play for the team.

LMAOOOO!!!!!
Respect his decision. The guy had his calling.
You can be both. You can be upset but still let the guy do his thing. At least he had a solid backup plan and turned out ok
He sounds chill
bro dropped millions to become a pastor, he definitely heard God
I’m sure God has rewarded the man with many riches
Pastors making mad bread with not having to pay taxes
I was actually looking for a laugh, but when it was mentioned that he heard from God and don't play in NBA, I got serious because i think it is really true
Exactly.
@@nightrunner7870 pastors pay taxes on their salary. They can opt out of paying Social Security tax but they don’t get to draw on Social Security. The organization aka Church is tax free, not the Pastor.
Honestly, props to him. That’s commitment.

@Connor and this means it must be true!! 🤓
well atleast it wasnt the crack that called him to leave xD
No. I wouldn’t be disappointed with that decision at all. I’m actually proud of him! A man has to do what he feels is best for him.
Facts
Agreed
excep for if you were the GM who spent an entire draft pick on him
I'd be disappointed he didn't make that decision before the draft.
Nah he should've backed off the draft picks are very valuable especially these days
Given up? It's their choice, people. Some people got some callin. Respect that.
Once you sign a contract, You cant just back away from it. If he did this before signing a contract then it's valid
Pretty sure at that point he signed a legally binding contract so he needs to respect that. Have no idea if they sued him but if that happened today then lawyers would be on his ass faster than he could breathe his next breath
@@Zonee1328 Wrong...Plenty of players in sports back away from the game who signed contracts and don't get sued. You just don't get the money guaranteed to you in the contract. Furthermore he was drafted in the middle of the second round. Those guys aren't even guaranteed contracts.
True definition of a real man who stayed true to what God had called him to do. Best success story I’ve ever heard now to be quite honest. 💯
Bit of an L really man coulda still been preaching god while balling in the nba making some money

@@ShadowTwister28 it’s assumed to be the Christian God because the sins of the world makes them enemies of him. Hatred towards God isn’t directed towards any other God except for Yahweh and Jesus Christ, the one true God and creator. John 3:18-21 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. 20For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. 21But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”

When God call you, you better listen

@@ezzoticc5189 for anyone religious it would be to send a message to others that it’s okay. I’d much rather players decide to quit early than too late for their actual calling
He's not crazy, I would call him crazy if he had left basketball to be a some gangster but to become a Pastor man found his calling.🙏🏽
Major respect to him, there are things much more important than money, he clearly understood that. I would be proud to draft such high character guy
Not crazy, not at all. He followed his TRUE CALLING, THE CALLING OF GOD!!!!!!!❤️💗💓💖
Wouldn't really call it a let down. He was just pursuing something he loves more than basketball and I respect that.
Can't argue with his choice not to play. What other option is there? Force him to play knowing he won't put any effort and will be terrible? Let him worship his God and leave him alone.
Definitely wouldn’t be mad He’s saving souls for the kingdom of heaven his mission was greater then entertaining people playing basketball. He deserves a lot of Respect and admiration being able to let the fame and money go to follow YAHUAH CHRIST ❤✝️🔥
Only faithless people would describe it as cuckoo. God had a calling for him and he answered.👏👏👏 How many people could say they would walk away from millions of dollars because God told them to? 🤔
A lot and that shows how stupid they are

Respect to the max God bless 🙏🙏🙏🙏
The Creator spoke to his heart and he followed him! Better story than being just another NBA player!
He would have likely been a bum anyway lol
That's honestly really inspiring 👏 AMEN!
That is incredible. Love that story and conviction!
Whenever people start talking about "what God told them" 🙄 you know they're crazy. Cut your loses.
Respect his decision. Evidently his walk with our maker meant more to him than fame or money. How can anyone question his decision? He is now on the most winning team of all times. He probably has so many assist leading souls to God. This man is the greatest team player you could ever ask for as a coach. He's going to be the MVP of heaven.
He didn't go crazy he Listened voice of the Lord.
Perfect decision. Im proud of him. No money nor fame can ever buy his fulfillment.
Nah, a "perfect" decision would have been to make said decision well before the draft so that you don't screw over a team that's drafted you. I have no problem with him deciding that he wanted another path in life. But could have come to that realization without screwing over the team that drafted him.
I mean if God slid to my crib and told me to quot basketball that's what I'm gonna do so I respect him
Bruh fought for his beliefs and sacrificed something a lot of us couldn't. Me personally, I respect that.
That man listened to his calling. Something most of us never will. Big ups to him
pretty disrespectful to call it going 'cockoo'. That was his calling and he stuck thru with it. proud of him
LORD, if today I hear YOUR voice, may my heart not be hardened.
He had a calling from God I can't knock that.
There was a football player named Glen Coffee who was drafted by the Niners and did the same thing. More power to him I couldn’t do it
I’m the guy that you are referring to in this small piece that only told part of the story. Regardless of how people feel about MY decision, 26 years later I’m where I’m supposed to be doing what I’m supposed to be doing! Stay tune! 2023 is gonna blow your mind!
As you know pastor.. all that matters what God thinks!!
The man found God AND found a NEW PATH for his life. He stayed true to his promise... Maybe he wasn't that cuckoo. Maybe he didn't "give up" so quickly... You know what I mean? Let that man live his life and allow him to have his faith AND his beliefs. I'm not saying this in a rude way... I'm just sharing how I feel...✌🏽😉👍🏽
That's not a coo coo, that is commitment. Respect
Kind of disrespectful to say someone is coco for choosing faith over basketball.
I don't think he sent coockcoo.
I'm happy for the guy.
A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.
This man is a true man of God and anyone who thinks differently about it is wrong he left the NBA to pursue his calling by our lord and savior. The path to he'll is wide and easy but the path to heaven is narrow and few will take it. Even though I didn't quote the scripture 100 percent accurate you get my point. I am not perfect but I am a work in progress for my lord and savior Jesus christ
Nothing but respect. It takes a lot to leave everything you’ve been working for.
Horrible word choices, obviously passive aggressively disrespecting the guy’s beliefs🤦🏾♂️
How is that crazy the man stood up to his word God bless him for doing that
As a regular nba fan, not even a very religious one, I respect his decision. But if I were a Warriors player or a part of the staff, I'd probably be pretty frustrated and angry.
Idk a lot of athletes quit their respective sports in pursuit for a deeper connection with Thier god and Thier religion disappointing for sports fans but if it makes them happy then that's all that matters.
Amen!!!!!!
Not disappointed wouldnt want a delusional crazy person who believes in sky faries on my team

u can play in the NBA and be a star in this world only... but they that turn many to righteousness shall shine as the stars forever and ever!!
Respect for the guy who love God
Well Kobe actually went to Charlotte hornets and didn't play a game Then he went to the Lakers
He made a choice, which he kept. Props to him
Which draft was better : 1984 , 1996 or 2003 ?
If today's NBA player said what Mann said, I will think that he just wanna join another team. Kudos to his commitment.
as a Christian being raised by Christian family and my parents being the song leaders my uncle preaching and literally being in walking distance of my church i sure do understand how this man feels. u don’t always want to but u have to listen to God. he knows best and he holds ur future

Dubs also drafted Todd Fuller at 11 that year
I'd say both. It's very dissapointing when a prospect leaves, as high hopes are extinguished. However, I'd still respect their decision to spread the word of God throughout the world, as that really has more impact than basketball.
He's dream came true and he realize that who put him in this position so he gave it all back to GOD such a sacrifice
Not the only player to quit basketball for God.
A lot of them even football
This something espn would blow up for a year lose interest then laugh about how wrong they got it 30 years later when he actually never picked up a basketball again
Much respect to this guy… I reached out to have him mentor my son who is playing and that’s priceless. Blessings to him.

I respect the hell out of that decision.
Why are you calling him crazy are you an atheist? I told the nurse do something he did in the store. He’s happy with his decision and that’s what matters now. If you choose not believe in God that doesn’t mean you have to call somebody crazy I find out highly disrespectful.
wth god must know something than if he told him that
