2x6 pine boards available at any local hardware store.
My books measure 4x7 inches each. I opted to use a 6 inch wood board instead of a 2x4 as 2x4's are only 3.5in wide and I felt that was too narrow.
1 inch boards would work as well, but you won't have as much space for your names.
Electric Sander w/ 220 grit sandpaper for smoothing edges and prepping for paint - I recommend Ryobi or DeWalt Brand Sander

Any white paint will work fine. My paint of choice is Dixie Belle Chalk Paint
I used Minwax Jacobean Wood stain for the edges. Any dark brown will work. Available at Lowes 👉🏼 www.lowes.com/pd/Minwax-Wood-...
