Do you feel lucky? Buying eggs on line looks to be a great deal. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Here is what comes in the mail and what to do with it. Oh so lucky!
Thanks so much i thought i was being ripped off but ill probably just wait for another season with better weather to order. Everything was packaged well so pretty sure it had to be weather
I try to have 2 pairs breeding at the same time. Then I pull pairs with one fish from each pair. But I think most killie fish have naturally inbreed for so many years that it is not bad if you get siblings.
i've been trying since may just to get some eggs in the mail, let alone hatch them. finally found a reliable breeder on aquabid and i'm now waiting on the mail. this video is my nightmare scenario. killies are not an easy fish to get into. i feel like just ordering as many eggs as i can from a bunch of different vendors (same species though) and hatching whatever i can.
I really suggest you start with buying fish, pairs of fish. At least this way you know when they arrive if you have a male and female that are alive. Eggs are a nightmare. Join the aka.org. American killifish Association. Best money you will spend. Their monthly newsletter will have fish for sale from people whose reputations depend on you being satisfied. They breed the fish themselves and are proud of what they raise. They will provide you with help and good beginnings. I have found over the last 20 years that the bad apples in the AKA are very few and far between and get 'outed' quickly.
@@djrramsey the tricky part is that i'm in canada. i might still check out the aka just for community and advice from long-time hobbyists even though i'm not sure any of the breeders are international. i just looked for a canadian killifish association and it seems not to exist although it may have at one point. also thank you for the advice on eggs. i'll be shifting my focus to getting a pair or trio.
@@mamamiabenjamia I know there are a lot of killifish keepers in Canada. Check the AKA site for affiliate clubs. There is a page that lists them all. Maybe that will help with finding a Canadian club.
@@djrramsey they've got to be here somewhere, i'm just having trouble finding them. thank you so much for taking the time to reply, this looks like a great place to start searching.
@@mamamiabenjamia Get in touch with Chris Biggs. UA-cam is 'The Mad Aquarist'. He is in Canada (way west), but is in the pet business/trade. He travels all over the place and knows everyone. He will know some Canadian killie keepers. He will get you in contact with some folks. I should have thought of him earlier.

Nice
Is it best to avoid inbreeding with fish? I’m worried about having to separate males and females from the same order ect
