My parents always had a rock and mineral collection. When we moved in 1992, they packed everything up and not all of the specimens ended up being displayed. I have 2 of those boxes, and we're going to open them together!
Turns out, there were all kinds of goodies I'd forgotten all about. Quartz, agate, fossils, copper, stalactites, calcite, halite, lignite, Native American tools and artifacts like arrowheads and spearpoints, dendrites, azurite, trilobites, chrysocolla, gold, garnet, and all sorts of other treasures from rockhounding trips all over Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, as well as purchased items from around the world.

I remember so many of them from my childhood but some, I swear I've never seen before. Same with the stuff in part 2!

Crazy they used to sell off parts of the national parks. Anything to profit. 🙄 These were some amazing pieces and your mom did a great job labeling most of it.

I'm sad that I'll never own a cave pearl, but I'm really glad our park service has had a change of opinion when it comes to best conservation practices. Unfortunately it often means limiting how many people get to see things, but at least they're not cutting and polishing sections of cave anymore! I doubt the public will ever get to see the inside of Lechuguilla Cave at Carlsbad Caverns, even though it's bigger than the main cavern itself.

Saw the fish hook artifact in the 1st box you opened. I have one that was from a friend who lived in Three Rivers in Live Oak County. I treasure it. You just don't see many of them. Great box of treasures and memories for you.💜

We had a huge shadowbox full of exquisite points at our lake house. Someone broke in once and took the whole thing. I've never seen my dad and grandfather more upset; they found all of them on the family's farms in Caldwell County. I love Three Rivers! Very sweet of them to give it to you.

I was really excited to see that, myself! I vaguely remembered the nps pieces but they were so deep in my brain that I wasn't sure if I'd made it up or not.

@@AngieDoesStuff that knobby "mud nodule you have looks a lot like the geodes here round west kentucky and ive seen in missouri, they usually have dirty muddy yellowish stained crystals inside
