I had terrible trouble on a large acrylic pour. Wasted tons of paint and the canvas [I thought] because of major pooling, until I saw this video. You have inspired me to give it another try. THANKS so very much!
Brilliant you solved all of my problems. I’m going to be doing a resin pour on a 24x30 oil painting on canvas. I was nervous but I think that this process will be perfect for even that size. I may add extra canvas support beams, and I will most likely use gesso on the back rather than water because it’s already painted. But the foam board will be perfect!!!
Easiest, fastest way to prep a canvas for resin, pour a thin layer of cheap resin on the back of your canvas and let it cure. Once it's cured you can pour on the front of the canvas with no sagging. I've used large canvases for ceodes with heavy layers of resin and crystals and stones, no sagging at all. Also, if you want to cut a hole in the canvas for a geode, jigsaws work perfectly through the canvas and resin on the backside. Just thought I'd share a simpler way to prep a canvas.
Hi Steve, that's a beautiful outcome to your project! I am so thankful for your patience. You are a great teacher. I have Never worked with resin before and wanted to find out how it works. What a blessing to have your video fall into my lap? Wow! Thank you also, for the extra tip on the spraying of the canvas and added foam for firmness. That's awesome! I feel like I just hit gold. Thanks again. Blessings to you!
I've moved on from acrylic pours to resin and have a lot of canvases... Thanks for this video!! Now I can stop buying mdf and use my canvas supply!! Great Video.. love your enthusiasm.
Thank you for sharing this video with us. I loved it and got an idea how easy and simple it is to coat a canvas with resin. You have explained it so well. Thanks once again.
after watching this I felt stupid I didn't think of it myself. It's obvious. I was considering laying a thin layer on the back and letting it cure before working on the other side, this is much more cost effective, I think. Thanks!
I haven’t started using resin yet but this is something I’ve wanted to do. What kind of resin do you recommend for canvas like this? And what causes the cells to come up cause that’s gorgeous
Hi Steve, just found your channel and subscribed as I need a better understanding of resin use on canvas 🤪 I have a huge amount of canvases to resin and I’m not a resin lover but I want to change that 🤩 Thanks for this informative video
I was going to pour on a panel but I think I will use one of my larger canvases, but I will have to put a towel underneath. Just worried about odour as I don’t have a respirator. Thanks for sharing your method 🎨
I know I'm late, but just watched this video. Great tips. I tried epoxy resin art on mdf board for the first time last week. I want to try canvas next week and your video will help. Thanks
New to your channel.. Thank you for this video. I only use Artist Loft level 3 canvases. The smallest is 20 X 20 X 1 1/2 deep. Will the foam board work with larger canvases? Would it be best to buy foam board 1/2 inch deep? Can it be cut with a scissors, or should I use an exacto knife? If the board is an inch or two smaller than the back of the canvas, do I need to add a small piece of board or just tape the board to the canvas? Sorry for so many questions. I am excited to try Resin. I really appreciate your advise. Thank you so very much. The picture is beautiful.
Enjoyed this, thanks . Lovely piece, looks like swirling water! I have been watching your videos with interest as I am a resin virgin lol. I am contemplating using resin for pouring art, was rather nervous though. Your videos are helping me to be more relaxed about it. I love all those tips, will be a great help once I start using resin.
Very helpful Steve. I love using resin on timber boards but have struggled on canvases. I have a painting I’d really like to resin, but it has thicker sides than yours did (3.5cm?) and the timber frame leans in on an angle. I will figure out a way to adapt your method to get a piece of board in there snugly. Cheers, Kelly 🇦🇺
Thanks for this video. I have been trying paint pours with acrylic paint and I don't like how matte they look. I guess I'm not doing it correctly. But I like this with the resin and how shiny it looks. Going to try this method since I have a few canvasas left from my Christmas presents. ( everyone knew I liked arts and crafts, they must have been on sale LOL)
Thanks Steve. Love the tutorial and finished painting. I have a 5’ x 2’ canvas and I plan to do a Dutch pour and one or two coats f resin on top of that. I may have to use two panels of foam to support the weight, but worry about a seam showing where the canvases are joined together. Any suggestions to prevent this?
I am a mixed media artist and i pour clear resin over digital printed media, and then add spray paints to make effects. It’s really tough to get it stick to the top edges as it goes down the sides and some pieces I’ve made a few years ago have cracked around the edge. 🤯 I’d love to know how to make it grip to the corners better if you or anyone has any tips! Thanks!
You surely explain thoroughly 👍👏👏👏, which really helps in sorting the confusion. My hot coffee mugs stick to resin coasters, can you Plz point out my mistake🙏
Mr. McDonald- Hi! Beautiful painting, & your videos are the BEST!! I’ve spent many hours enjoying them, thank you. I was wondering; how long you would cure that painting before you would feel comfortable wrapping it up in tissue, boxing it & sending it a few states away? I struggle with the idea of that, (YIKES!) but I see you could touch it quite freely after 30 hours which amazed me! I’ve never done this before (obviously 🙄). I sure would welcome any advice you have to offer, or any quick tips you’d like to share on the subject.💕Thank you sincerely!!😊
Amazing video! The way you explain this is perfect! I am new to this and I have 2 questions: 1) Did you add any Resin before applying the paint? 2) Did you add anything in the paint? If so please tell me what you added 😊😊 Thank you very much!
Great video! What is jesso? (sp?) I do not see in in material list.. Update. I googled Jesso for canvas and found in as Gesso, However, do you mind showing how applied? is there another great one of your videos for that? THANK YOU
I love that! I love how the colors are blended together and I definitely love the cells! I have a canvas that I colored with gel pens and colored pencils. Can I do this same thing with clear resin to coat and protect it? It would be great if I could.

If you hot glue around the foam board it will stay in place much better 😊

How long or how many days do you have to wait after you finish a painting to resin? What to cover with for dust?
i am gonna have my kids to experiment with it
Brilliant and helpful tips. thank you :)
Brilliant as always Steve. Thanks.
Waaaaiiiiit. what was added to the paint to create the luxurious and shiny coat?
Came out very nice ...
Thank you! Such an informative video for my future resin sealing of my paintings.👌
Hi Steve, I love your tips and tricks, I’ve done a few now but how would you suggest I tidy the back, as I intend to sell them on

Thanks i love using the Foam boards very helpful for canvas resin. :)

Hi any chance you could do a video with canvas and a puzzle going on top?
What sort of puzzle?
Thanks Steve..Never thought of using foam board that way! Brilliant!
Very good trick.
Thank you Sir.
Hi @SteveMcDonaldArts Trying to understand… did you prime your canvas first?
If so, what kind of primer?
