  • I’m quite picky when it comes to protection. I need a guard that will absorb impact, stay in place, fit well, and not be too much of a hinderance to free movement. These Seven iDP guards unfortunately don’t stack up for me

Very happy with my ISX Carve Evo elbow pads, had for about a year. Breath pretty well. Stretchy straps top and bottom. Breathable section on the inside of the pad (inner elbow side) is a little weak but mines holding up well after various offs. I also have the carve knee pads, grea tprotection, but dont find them comfy for lots of peddling, as I cannot do up the top strap, it makes them uncomfortable. Neither have internal padding, but not had any issues to date. My mate shave the lesser knee pads (non carve model) and are happy with them.

Leatt 3DF 5.0 elbow pads are brilliant. Soft padded inside as you mentioned with silicone top and bottom so both ends hold well. Same D30 protection you have there. I have the 3DF 5.0 zipped knee pads as well and they are killer.

I use the Fox Launch Pro D30 knee and elbow pads and would recommend them. They can get a bit sweaty but I can deal with that as they do offer a good level of protection. These pull on sleeves just don't cut the mustard for me.

I have the heavy duty version of those, but I haven’t used them much. Elbow pads that don’t pad the impact 🤔 sucks man.

I have them and was told to size down. I'm a fit 5'11 and 190lbs and went with a medium, they were really tight at first but once broken in they fit nice and snug with zero movement.

Nice. They have their days with me. Today they moved a little but I stayed on top of it, but my last ride they were dropping constantly. The sweat factor seems to play a part

i had the Sam Hill knees had a good crash and they pulled down and gashed my knees. Sleeves don’t hold. Silicon leaves huge rash takes days to go down. POC DH with hard shell outer are light weight yet very protective have a strap with sticky rubber.. they are my next try.

TLD Speed Sleeves work well for me. They seem like they cover a larger area than the 7iDP ones you show and come nice and high on the upper arm. Had to put a stitch or two in to bring the circumference in for a tight fit but they've been solid and saved me from a few impacts. Leatt 3DF 5.0 ones I had prior (warrantied as the foam split) were comfortable and stayed in place too. Those offered a bit more protection than the Speed Sleeves but were hotter and you noticed them more when riding.

I remember that split foam. Speed sleeves might be worth a visit. Getting some good suggestions here

TLD Speed sleeves have no protection rating, while these 7idp's have a CE EN 1621-1:2012 Level 1 certification. In other words, TLD Speed provide abrasion protection, while these ones provide some actual impact protection. That's a BIG difference.

Ive never been able to get sleeves to stay up on my arm so I was skeptical about spending money on elbow pads. Saw the Raceface Indy's for super cheap so I tried them out, they ended up working great and never slide down thanks to the strap (the strap is really stretchy and doesnt restrict bicep expansion). The thin D30 padding is good enough for abrasions and it makes the pads unnoticeable, its still cold here so Ive been using them as sleeve warmers even when I have no use for pads. My only complaint is Raceface's sizing chart sucks, had to send back a pair because they were too loose in the forearm, sizing down worked perfect.

I made a homemade shin bone protection.
and looking at how to make an elbow pad and knee as well.
it is very cheap to make it and you will not get hurt, yes! it wont look as a fox, but you will be protected.

The knee pads are the bees knees but these wont cut it. Leatt's Airflex material looks comfortable and reasonably protective.

    • @mtbtelly5522

Elbow pads always slide down whatever one you use they not the best at all That’s why I used new modern vest with body armour with elbow pads and to be honest working great

✌🏼 I don’t like this slow rebounding foam that goes hard on impact. Padding and a plastic shell is the gold standard for me

  • @taz800

It doesn't surprise me that the pads started slipping so soon, after seeing how you pull the upper end to put them on! I wouldn't expect any pad without upper strap to hold on after such an abuse! You should put them on by grabbing them from the pad, not from the upper edge, especially when there is no strap! Geez! What did you expect exactly?! Treat your gear well and they will return the favor.
Edit: a nice trick is to also flip the silicon strip areas to facing out before putting them on. Once in the proper position, flip them again to touch the skin. Do the opposite to take them off. Makes putting on and off much easier. Just my $0.02.

I wish I could. I’ve smashed both elbows pretty good in the past so I tend to cover them up to avoid the inconvenience of another hole in my arm
