    I skate an 8.5 popsicle for mini ramps and street and I use wider boards up 9.5 for bigger ramps and bowls. You can't beat the added shape and width for your feet to move around on the board a little more, with wider trucks to suit its so much more stable feeling. I just like the look of the older boards too as I first started skating in the late 80's. Started skating again just over a year ago after 30yrs off.

      100%!!! I ride a 8.8 size usually just for the extra room and now with the shape it’s even better! Same! Well, I haven’t started skating that long ago, but I’m into the history and keep stepping towards that era the more and more I get into transition and bowl skating. Maybe I’ll get to 9.5 soon haha. I’m still not accustomed to having 2 setups just yet, so my 8.8 is a happy medium. If only we can take the look and style of older boards and bring it into the youth. From shapes to graphics, the 80’s was where it’s at!
      I’m already about to order another madness board haha. Let me know if you know of any cool shape or old school companies you would recommend!!!

      @@AustinSK8NYC skating different setups and swapping over depending on what your skating honestly isn't bad at all. I can get used to another board in 15 minutes try it, you'd be surprised.
      I also ride different wheels 56mm or 58mm for park 99a and 58mm - 60mm for bowls 99a - 101a or 83b Bones.
      It really does work better having different setups🤟
      But..... I can have a good time on anything on a good popsicle 8.5 with 99a's👍
      I've been buying early 90's re issue boards, Polar and New Deal are nice. The boards in the late 80's I used to ride which you can get as re issues are a little freaky looking now. Early 90's are a nice medium between old and the popsicle shape.

    When I first started skating I used an 8" Hook-Ups Popsicle deck. It was alright for a beginner! As of now though switch between a Welcome Son of Moontrimmer deck and a World Industries popsicle deck. It does take some time to get used to but, I honestly love the way how Welcome skateboards perfectly marries the tech and pop of a popsicle with the creative life of a shaped deck, would definitely recommend to all to try them.

    That particular deck is a 8.75 inch Sam Beckett pro model from Madness. It is my favourite deck of all time. On my 5th one right now. I only skate transition. I have a few other wider ones for monster bowls but this is my go-to.

    • @AustinSK8NYC

      I enjoyed that deck so much too!!! Honestly a really great board! I'm skating a 9.25 and I honestly love the size. Going to stick with it for a while! If you like madness, try some DogTown shaped decks I'm really enjoying mine!

      Try the 9” Vincent Alvarez chocolate loveseat. It’s badass and so fun. Skates like a normal popsicle either way but has a nice long nose and square tail for added stability

    i was a skate shop sponsored skater back int he early 00's, i used small decks my whole time skating between 7.5-7.63 mostly with a 7.75 once in awhile depending what was at the shop when i needed a new board. i was mostly a super tech skater where my heels flips were my go to and what i was known for in my city along with casper flips, it wasnt a small skate place but it wasnt big. there was 1 pro, 1 am(he was like 14 and dude ended up getting minor deals with nike, clothing brand, think skateboards and i think a trunk company.....dude was hella crazy for back than) then there was a handful of shop sponsored skaters. my best friend who lived in the hosue in front of me and his back yard was my front yard and his dad bought him a mini ramp for his back yard.....i then started going to vans skate park in nor cal and the place had hella transition and the rest was just garbage imo, so i was at the shop and they didnt have many boards of my normal skating as they were in a shortage and only had 15-20 bours when normally it was 50 and for a long time they kept boards i would like in the back for me before putting them out. so i actually ended up getting a mildy shaped board, it was kinda weird where one of the sides was fucking big and it had close to the nose of that and also it was the biggest skate deck i ever bought as it was a 7.88, it was a habitat pro model when habitat was prertty much a brand new company. i was so much better on very but i could skate it on street/park for shit

      @AustinSK8NYC  2 роки тому

      Yooo thank you for sharing that man that's so sick!!! I would have loved to see skating back then especially when habitat was first starting out! Thank you for giving me insight on the deck shape though I had only rode 8 size decks for so long and I wasn't until this last year where I started switching it up a bit! Big boards definitely help vert but it's hard for street. It's all about finding that board that can do both for me 💪🙏🙏🙏 appreciate the support man thank you once again!

      @@AustinSK8NYC so im 35 now, and i decided im going to starting skating again. i actually ordered a a build your own complete off skate warehouse(i like to support skate shops but i only had so much money to spend) so i bought a 7.75 enjoi hybrid construction, titanium indys(they were on sale for 25 each but normally are around 35-40, ricta crystal cores 95a which were also on sale doe 25 due to they are pro models and the guy isnt on ricta anymore, pig bearings because they were also on sale and it was 125 after taxes. i went and looked on other websites and i looked at the complete was about 160-170 before taxes.
      i started getting into skating around the time the first super team from street skaing era of a-team even thought it didnt last long which than mullen started enjoi.
      so i actually always had a weird skate stance, my balance pushing stance was normal but the way i did tricks was goofy and which i skated vert regular so there was a bunch of very tricks that were easier than normal. i also learned to do all of my tricks fakie. for some reason my balance in goofy was got good even after 5 years of skating so it was weird for me. my power foot and balance foot are the same

    I have the same board, and it was weird first. I did notice that it is ½in to 1 in longer than my other boards and its wheel base is 14¾. That's probably why it took a while for your tech tricks. I will add that I found it was better at transition like you did. I love it on transition. Also, Sam Beckett is a transition skater.

      Yessir!! I enjoyed the board! I actually just got another shaped that’s a bit more old school. I’ll be posting about it soon!
      As for my wheels, right now I have size 56 Oj Elite mini combo. Super good wheel. Size 56 for me is the perfect size because it works great for transition and well as street 🙏🏽

    is it hard to switch from a 8.5 to a 8.75 skateboard for street skateboarding becauese?

    • @AustinSK8NYC
      @AustinSK8NYC  2 роки тому

      It's not to hard, but I will say I takes a little bit to get use to. Depending on the board. It could add a little bit of weight to your setup.Also, consider stepping up your truck size to fit a 8.75.
      For the most part though it's not to hard to get use to it. Once you skate it, your muscles will be able to do the same tricks as you were skating on a 8.5.
      Let me know if that helped :)

    • @AustinSK8NYC

      14.5 I believe! I actually just got a new board and going to do a setup video soon!
      Trucks are independent hollow light size 159. There perfect for 8.75. I’m rocking a 9.23 size deck with the same 159s and it’s working great💪🏽. Let me know if you have any other questions 🙏🏽
